Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s former senior aide was arrested when he presented himself at MACC’s headquarters in Putrajaya today for questioning as part of a corruption probe.

00:11MACC Chief Commissioner Azam Baki said Shamsul was arrested when he presented himself at its headquarters in Puchajaya for questioning as part of an investigation into allegations that he received bribes from controversial businessman Albert Tay.
00:27In a statement, Azam said MACC's investigation is centred on Tay's claim that he bribed Shamsul to recover funds that were allegedly distributed to Sabah Assemblyman.
00:39Azam said Tay was arrested at his home at 10.15am today while a woman named Sophia Rini Buyong, who MACC is also investigating in connection with Tay's allegations,
00:51was arrested at 10.30pm yesterday when she arrived at MACC's headquarters to assist with the probe.
01:00Tay previously claimed Sophia was Shamsul's proxy, an allegation which she denies.
01:06MACC is expected to submit remand applications for both Shamsul and Tay at the magistrate's court tomorrow morning,
01:13with investigation officers instructed to complete the probe this week so it can be forwarded to the Attorney General's chambers as soon as possible.
01:22Azam also denied allegations that MACC officers pointed a weapon at Tay during his arrest this morning,
01:30saying the operation was conducted according to standard operating procedures.
