00:01DAP Secretary-General Lok Sufuk says a proposal for mayoral elections in the capital should
00:06not be politicized, noting that former UMNO leader Kairi Jamaluddin had also voiced support
00:12for such a move.
00:14Lok said the matter should be seen as an effort to enhance the accountability of Kuala Lumpur
00:18City Hall rather than an issue to be politicized.
00:22He added that he does not see the proposal as a DAP agenda alone, saying many MPs in
00:27Kuala Lumpur, including PKR's Nick Nazmi and Nick Ahmad, support the move.
00:33Lok had been asked to comment on DAP's stance regarding a feasibility study on implementing
00:37a mayoral election conducted by the Office of Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeo.
00:42Meanwhile, DAP Youth Vice Chief Raja Ahmad Iskandafaris said the future of Kuala Lumpur must rest in
00:49the hands of its own community who live, work and build their lives in the city.
00:54He added that there were only 11 MPs in the capital to handle the constituency needs of 1.98 million
01:00people, compared to smaller states which have more elected representation.
