00:01Penang Chief Minister Chao Konyao has brushed off calls from PAS for his first Deputy Chief
00:06Minister Muhammad Abdul Hamid to resign over the alleged abuse of Zakat funds for the purchase
00:11of land by a senior state government official.
00:15Chao said the issue was already raised during the state assembly sitting in November and
00:19that Muhammad had given an explanation then.
00:22He said the assemblymen who raised the issue at the time seemed to accept the explanation
00:26of how the funds were used based on the assessments of the relevant departments.
00:31He also said that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission had begun investigating the matter
00:36and that the state government did not wish to interfere in the probe.
00:40Chao said there is no need for Muhammad to resign at this stage, adding that if that were the
00:44case, people in Malaysia would be resigning every day.
00:48Meanwhile, Muhammad has denied any wrongdoing and says the allegations are politically motivated.
