00:00Here's the draft order heading into today.
00:02Raiders right now pick first.
00:04They are the worst team in football with just two victories.
00:07Giants, Jets, Titans, Cardinals.
00:10Shout out Arizona for having three victories.
00:13It just feels remarkable.
00:15Let me tell you.
00:16Go ahead.
00:16No, I picked them to win the West this year.
00:18I thought healthy.
00:19They start 2-0.
00:21They had all the foundation and the players, I thought,
00:24especially on the defensive side of the ball,
00:26with Walter Nolan and some of the additions with Will Johnson
00:30in the draft to potentially make a run.
00:32But then the Kyler situation, Jonathan Gannon,
00:35and just the offensive philosophy.
00:37Look, they can put up numbers with Jacoby Brissett,
00:41but that doesn't always equate to winning football games,
00:45and that is the problem.
00:46They were exposed for not having, once Conor went down,
00:50the offensive line is terrible.
00:52They can't run the football.
00:53And the defense just got exposed and worn down
00:57because you're out there for, you know,
00:59you cannot play football out there when you're playing multiple plays.
01:03And it's just unsustainable.
01:06Yeah.
01:06And again, I thought he had this team peaking, you know,
01:10with eight wins last year, and they were on the cusp.
01:13They lost that Carolina game.
01:16I think it's a terrible head coach.
01:18They started 2-0.
01:19Yeah.
01:20Like, the –
01:21I think it's a terrible head coach.
01:22The way things have gone in Arizona has been –
01:25under-discussed isn't the right word.
01:27We just haven't talked about it a lot, but it's been really bad.
01:29With all that said, though, Joe, right, who is going to draft first?
01:31What is up for grabs?
01:32So let me just ask you this quickly.
01:34If the Raiders lose, they pick number one.
01:35We know that for sure.
01:36So let me just start with that game.
01:37They are home today against Kansas City.
01:39Old Duncan's going in.
01:41The Chiefs are booked as favorites.
01:43I don't think Kansas City winning that game is a sure thing.
01:46No, I mean, I don't think it's a sure thing either.
01:51I mean, you have a quarterback in Olin Duncan that threw for 66 yards his last start.
01:57Yeah.
01:57I mean, come on.
01:58We're talking about NFL quarterback play here.
02:00And we talked to Cap, and we can continue the conversation.
02:04They have a major developmental problem with the quarterback.
02:08Yep.
02:08Again, Andy Reid, I thought, has lost his fastball.
02:13Again, he should pace this team.
02:16He should go out there, divisional opponent, and put Pete Carroll out to pasture.
02:23But I don't feel confident in this group.
02:26It wouldn't shock me if this team steps up and Gentee runs for 100 and Mayer catches 10 balls for 80 yards
02:34and he scores a touchdown and they win it 17-13.
02:37Would it shock you?
02:39No, not at all.
02:41And Pete Carroll probably wants to, you know, like relive in like, you know, all the heyday.
02:46So that is one of the most interesting elements of this game.
02:48I'm better than Reid.
02:49I still got the fastball.
02:51When you have a coach that does not project to be back next season, which I don't think Pete Carroll does, right?
03:01Does Pete Carroll care about losing as much as everybody else?
03:04No.
03:04I'll also say this.
03:05I thought they put together one of the great tank efforts of all time last week against the Giants.
03:10Right.
03:10I think it can be difficult to replicate a tank effort that bad from the Raiders perspective.
03:18Now, as far as it, because some of these markets are out there, we know that, Joe, right?
03:22Which team will draft first?
03:24The Raiders are the favorites.
03:25If the Raiders end up with the first overall pick, we heavily, heavily expect that they would sit there and not only take quarterback,
03:31but many people believe that they would, Joe, go out there and very likely select Fernando Mendoza to be that number one overall pick.
03:40This is something that you and I have talked about is, you know, is Fernando Mendoza this sure thing?
03:45You and I haven't talked, I guess, too much about the playoffs since the playoff.
03:47I've said this to people around the office, the nail in the coffin, if you will, in a positive sense, Mendoza against Bama, more touchdowns than incompletions, I was sold.
03:58I think he's the guy.
03:59I think he should be the first overall pick, first quarterback off the board.
04:02I buy into Mendoza as a leader at the next level.
04:04Yeah, leader is the big thing.
04:06Am I, again, I think that's the biggest attribute that Fernando Mendoza brings.
04:12Is he this generational talent that, again, we talk about Jaden and we talk about Caleb last year,
04:19having the physical attributes along with potentially the leadership skills to develop into that guy.
04:25I think Fernando is a cut underneath, but what he has shown transferring from Cal to Indiana,
04:34elevating the players around them, being that model type of quarterback, showing the ability where in multiple games this year
04:42against Iowa, against Oregon, against other teams, Penn State, he throws interceptions.
04:48He's not phased.
04:50He comes back on the following drive and leads game-winning touchdowns.
04:54That's what you want to see from the leadership perspective on the next level.
04:59You don't have to always have the physical attributes to be a starting NFL quarterback and be a winner.
05:08Let's look at Brock Purdy, seventh round.
05:12And I know he hasn't won anything yet, but he is the franchise guy, right?
05:16Tom Brady, Joe Montana.
05:18I mean, those type of players where they were looked at as being, ah, well, he doesn't have the arm strength,
05:23but they found ways to elevate their teammates and win multiple Super Bowls.
05:28That's what Fernando Mendoza, up until this point, has shown,
05:33and he's been able to handle the pressure at a program that has just blown up.
