00:00I could send a thousand letters addressed to you
00:07And I could send a thousand emails just to get through
00:13And I could call a thousand times till I don't know what to do
00:19Just to tell you, can you fall down? I'm missing you
00:25TV6 News met Brave Boy at the Berg in Woodbrook
00:29Inside the vinyl-lined record store, he described the song as his personal offering to the carnival season
00:35While his music has featured in international television and film
00:39Brave Boy admits recognition at home has come more slowly
00:43To an extent, I mean, I would say I'm more the least known
00:46So the least known would be considered the underdog
00:48But I'm getting a lot of love
00:50I think definitely it's raising my profile as an artist
00:53And my status as an artist
00:55And just a lot of opportunities are coming from this, you know, me releasing the song so far
01:00He says the song grew out of a period of emotional writing
01:04Shaped by the last five years
01:06And a desire to bring vulnerability in the sofa
01:08I wanted to do a song that's a ballad, a classic ballad
01:12Like an Elton John song or a Luther Vandross song
01:14And Luther Vandross has a song called A Thousand Kisses
01:18And I took the A Thousand idea and I turned it into
01:20If I had to write a love song to carnival
01:22You know, think about the diaspora, the person slipping away
01:25What would I tell carnival?
01:26So I could send A Thousand letters addressed to you
01:28I could send A Thousand emails
01:29Before stepping into the genre
01:32Brave Boy says he studied soka's history
01:35Drawing inspiration from its pioneers
01:37So with every genre I do
01:40I do my research and I do a little deep dive
01:43Before I go into the writing process
01:45So I actually watch every single soka man
01:47That's on YouTube
01:48From Super Blue and David Rudder
01:51Straight up to Bungie, Blazer Dan
01:54And well obviously Marshall
01:57He credits the late Blazer Dan as a major influence
02:00Particularly the balance between melody and raw energy
02:04An approach he sought to reinterpret in a modern power soka sound
02:08Beyond the music, love on the road is also shaped by personal loss
02:13Brave Boy reflects on the passing of his father
02:16Media personality and clip-sonian Hilton Brave Boy
02:20And close friend Tamara Carpet
02:23The Brave Boy name is an important name in the entertainment industry
02:26My dad was, rest in peace dad, television producer
02:30And also television host
02:32And contributed a lot to culture
02:34Also Calypstonian
02:35So definitely an unsung hero in media
02:37So just being able to
02:38You know my dad always wanted me to
02:40He always used to joke
02:41We could take a road match next year
02:42So I think to actually be in this conversation
02:44And to be performing on big stages
02:46Is definitely me paying homage to my dad
02:50And also rest in peace to another friend of mine
02:52Tamara Carpet
02:54Who was also very instrumental in my career
02:56As Carnival draws closer
02:58Brave Boy says his focus remains on staying grounded
03:02While allowing the music to travel
03:04I definitely see myself
03:06I've already started that path
03:07Being an artist from Trinidad and Tobago
03:10With global appeal and reach
03:13And definitely pursuing the global market
03:16But it's very important for me to represent Trinidad and Tobago
03:19So I try my best to maintain the accent
03:23To always slip in a little Trinidad slang
03:25Even in my international writing
03:27And I believe that people love us
03:29Anywhere we go in Trinidad
03:30Trinidad are loved all over the world
03:31So it's just to represent Trinidad
03:33It's almost like I'm a foreign exchange student
03:35In the world in these different markets
03:38Representing our culture
03:39That's how I see myself
03:40As a cultural ambassador for Trinidad and Tobago
03:42In my own unique way
03:44For Brave Boy
03:45This season carries the hope
03:47That could mark a turning point
03:49So we could fall in love on the road
03:52Give me a chance now
03:54Just give me a chance now
03:56I hope you miss me
03:57Miss me like I'm missing you
04:00Cause I could book a flight and come home
04:02Just to be right next to you
04:04This is Brave Boy
04:06And you're watching TV6
