00:00But the people of Tobago need to be the people, the ones who decide on autonomy.
00:08Our view in the patriotic front is that the people must decide what they want.
00:16And a group of politicians mustn't sit in a room in Tobago or in Trinidad and decide what the people want.
00:24And therefore, if that is the case, our position is we believe that the people of Tobago should have a referendum.
00:31Ms. Pandey's comments come as her party announced Tobago West candidate Aretha Clark,
00:37who is a THA employee, and Tobago East candidate Wade Carruth,
00:42who has a background in agriculture, fishing and was a former educator.
00:47I am here as a candidate because I want to see change.
00:51I am here because I've been empowered by Ms. Michaela Pandey's policies.
00:58I'm thankful for being part of this political party, which is a humanitarian party.
01:06I'm excited to be part of this party. I'm here to work with the people, for the people.
01:12Now, the reason why I have put forth myself for why I am entering this election
01:17is because we and I personally hear the people and I hear and understand the cries and the concerns of the people
01:24who have been or felt like they have been betrayed or who felt like they have gone through a lot.
01:30So we are here to say that we empathize with you and we are here to give you the representation that you deserve and definitely need.
01:39With these national parties coming to Tobago,
01:43the question was asked as to if Tobago is being used conveniently for votes.
01:48I think I disagree with you. National parties are not doing that.
01:52It's other parties doing that.
01:54If you look at it, because Tobago is used as a bargaining tool, not by a national party.
01:58A national party is the same party.
02:02It is when you have different parties that they go and they negotiate behind each other's backs
02:08to their own benefits, allegedly.
02:11And that's how I see it.
02:13How can a national party use, and I speak for myself, I can't speak for anybody else,
02:18maybe that is what the only other national party that we have is the PNM.
02:22That is what they have been doing.
02:24But I am saying to you, the way we view a national party is that a national party unifies the country as opposed to divides it.
02:34The Patriotic Front representatives spoke during their media conference on Wednesday
02:39at their office in Scarborough and intend to treat with a number of wide-ranging issues
02:45of land tenure, youth empowerment, education, sport and agriculture.
02:51Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
