00:00The People's National Movement said that in the highest traditions of courtesy, fellowship and goodwill, it publicly invited all of
00:07its members to attend its 70th anniversary celebrations held on Monday, January 26, 2026 at the Winfred Atwell Auditorium, Queen's
00:17Hall.
00:17The opposition party was responding to comments made by former Prime Minister and former PNM political leader Dr. Keith Rowley
00:24while he spoke with members of the media at his home on Tuesday.
00:30So I don't want anybody telling me that the PNM and the UNC is the same thing because we, the
00:36PNM, celebrated 70 years last whenever.
00:41I don't know which of a date it was because my colleagues didn't invite me, but I could find out
00:47the time.
00:48I ran the PNM for 15 years, 5 years in opposition, 10 years in government, 1-2 general election.
00:54And the PNM is celebrating 70 years as a political party in this country and I had to hear about
01:02it, but I'll do that later on.
01:04The PNM dealt with it a few hours after Dr. Rowley made his comments as the party said, as is
01:11customary for special guests, a letter of invitation was issued through the office of the General Secretary to former political
01:18leader Dr. Keith Rowley.
01:19The PNM provided the media with a copy of the letter dated January 21st.
01:24The party, per the said, the letter was hand-delivered to Dr. Rowley's residence on January 22nd, 2026.
01:32The PNM said its 70th anniversary event, which it called a momentous event, was attended by hundreds of members, including
01:40current and former executive officers of the party, members of parliament and local government officials.
01:45The leadership of the PNM thanked all who attended, and while they noted Dr. Rowley's absence was their loss, they
01:52said they looked forward to his presence at one of the events planned in celebration of this, the PNM's Platinum
01:59Jubilee.
02:00In response to a question from TV6 News on Wednesday, Dr. Rowley said he will not demean himself with sparring
02:08with the PNM.
02:09While he spoke with members of the media on Tuesday, TV6 News posed the question to Dr. Rowley.
02:15Are you happy with the present leadership of the PNM today?
02:21Let's put it this way, Joel.
02:23If I was not happy, I wouldn't be talking to you about that.
02:26That's a bad is a house.
02:28Because I asked the question because...
02:30It's a good question, but I am not going to pontificate on that with you in this way.
02:36If I am to express that view, I'll express it voluntarily at another time in another place.
02:42Dr. Rowley retired as Prime Minister on March 16th of last year.
02:46Port of Spain North St. Anne's West MP Stuart Young was appointed Prime Minister on March 18th of last year.
02:53In less than two days after the PNM lost the 2025 general election on April 28th of last year, Dr.
03:01Rowley resigned as the political leader of the PNM, MP Young resigned as chairman of the PNM, and former Minister
03:08Rohan Sinan resigned as a deputy political leader of the PNM.
03:12On May 6th of last year, Arima MP Penelope Beckles was appointed leader of the opposition.
03:18On June 29th of last year, opposition leader Beckles became the PNM's political leader.
