00:00Many boat owners are putting in the final touches ahead of the 2026 Trinidad and Tobago
00:05Great Race.
00:06With just over a week to go, it means that it's crunch time for one and all.
00:10That includes Jesse Gangaram, who's the owner and throttleman attached to the vessel Catch
00:15This.
00:16The boat races in the 70 mile class and Gangaram is confident about its chances.
00:22When coming to the Great Race, we're always positive.
00:24We have the vessel for the water, we have proper engines this time.
00:30We have done a lot of work through the regattas and we did wonderful in the last regatta.
00:35We are the winners of the 70 mile class.
00:38So we have a very good spirit into moving into 2026 for Great Race.
00:43It's often said that team chemistry goes a long way at the Great Race.
00:47But in Gangaram's case, it's something he's working on.
00:50While this may sound strange, there's a reason for it at the moment.
00:55Well, really and truly, I'm still in the stages of getting a driver.
01:01So how tough is it going to be for you?
01:04Ah, no, it's not going to be tough for me.
01:05I know there's both inside out as the throttleman, as the driver, don't have much for Great Race.
01:10And my take, my may be wrong, but for Great Race, a lot of work comes down to me.
01:15Catch This has competition in the form of defending champions' extreme measures in the 70 mile class.
01:21So is Gangaram concerned about the others?
01:23Me, worry of nobody, just the engines and everything hold out properly and reach in front of everybody.
01:31I'm not worried about anybody.
01:32It's no secret that boats often fail to make it to Tobago due to technical issues.
01:36As such, win, lose or draw, Gangaram has a message for the other participants at this year's prestigious race.
01:43It's always an accomplishment, despite what position you are for Great Race, just reach in Tobago.
01:50Just be in there however long you take, if you don't do it in the hour and a half, you
01:54take two hours, two and a half hours, the main thing is just be there, just reach Tobago.
02:00The Great Race starts at 7.15am on August 15th, with the foreshore being the starting point and finishing in
02:07Storby.
02:08We know it's long, and I know it's going to work for
