00:00Just behind me here in Nags Head, North Carolina, located on the Outer Banks.
00:05Crews are still working extremely hard to get this roadway clear.
00:09This is Highway 12, which is the main artery to communities such as Buxton,
00:14which have suffered catastrophic damage from this record-setting winter storm that hit North Carolina.
00:21Now, the crews, they don't have any estimation on when this highway is going to be open
00:25because of all of the overwash occurring with the high tides.
00:29All of this extra water and push-off and high waves are creating a situation
00:35that is taking longer than usual to get this highway open.
00:38The crews essentially are clearing away the sand, and then as soon as they get a hand on it,
00:42the overwash comes over, pushes the sand back into the roadways,
00:46thus leading to these extended closures that is going on day two now.
00:50The closure has been extended until at least tomorrow at 5 o'clock
00:54while these crews continue to work and get this roadway in a safe manner
00:59and get the debris from the overwash cleared away.
01:02Meanwhile, all across other areas of Nags Head up to Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina,
01:08crews are continuing to work to clear a lot of the roadways,
01:11clear this extra ice that has melted and refroze onto the roadways.
01:16And today, many businesses still remain closed to let the crews work
01:19and get these highways and side roads back in working order.
01:24For AccuWeather, I'm Aaron Rigsby.
