01 February- National morning forecast presented by Kathryn Chalk.
Transcript
00:00Good morning, after what was a wet January there is further rain in the forecast as we
00:06head into the new month.
00:08It's a messy picture out there this morning though, a lot of cloud and outbreaks of rain.
00:12Two separate areas, one towards the south, this is giving the main uncertainty if it
00:16pushes its way further northwards, but otherwise a band of rain across Northern Ireland will
00:22continue its way eastwards into Northern England, into Wales and then eventually across the
00:27central swathe of the UK.
00:29Behind that though, there are some glimmers of sunshine, so turning drier behind the
00:34front across Northern Ireland, the far south-west of Wales and into Devon and Cornwall to end
00:40Sunday afternoon, otherwise the vast majority of us seeing more cloud and outbreaks of rain.
00:47Temperatures though are still at average for the time of year, around 5 to 10 degrees, but
00:54always feeling chilly, especially when exposed to that south-eastly winds across Orkney and
00:59Shetland.
01:01Now, as we go through this evening, we hold on to a lot of cloud across much of the country,
01:05from Scotland down to Northern England into East Anglia as well, where we see some persistent rain.
01:11Across the west though, where we hold on to the clearest skies across Northern Ireland, again across
01:16western parts of Wales and the south-west of England, temperatures will fall away here. We'll see a touch of
01:21frost in places, some icy stretches and given the moisture, there will be some mist and fog to start
01:28Monday morning. Otherwise, for most places, generally holding up above freezing.
01:34So, as we start Monday morning then, like I said, a chilly start across western areas, but the cloud will
01:40thicken ahead of this next band of rain coming into the south-west. Now, for most of us, it's another
01:47cloudy picture. We'll hold on to a few showers, mainly across northern parts of England into the far
01:53north-east of Scotland. Again, these are going to be falling wintry over the highest mountains across
01:59Scotland and still holding on to that brisk wind. Now, towards the far south-west, that's where we
02:05have further rain on its way. There is already a yellow rain warning in force, so we could see
02:11further disruption and more flooding. So, do take care and do keep an eye on the forecast for this
02:16if you're based in the south-west. Otherwise, as for temperatures, it's actually going to be feeling
02:21quite chilly, especially towards the north and east. Towards the south, highs of up to 10 or 11 degrees.
02:27So, we're not out of the woods quite yet, but make sure, if you are on YouTube, to hit subscribe so you
02:33don't miss any updates, and I'll see you soon. Bye-bye.
