Late-night hosts took Trump to task for his televised address Tuesday about the clashes in Charlottesville, Va., during which the president appeared to backtrack on his Monday statement, again placing blame for the violence on "both sides."
Transcript
00:00Where does it stop where does it stop buddy? We've been asking ourselves that
00:05question since January. Another day, another televised address on Charlotte's
00:10bill from President Donald Trump. Wait, I thought this already happened twice. Well, it did.
00:15But in a press conference on Tuesday, the president again commented on the clashes and
00:20Charlottesville, Virginia over the weekend. And this time he appeared to backtrack on
00:23his Monday statement about
00:25the deadly rally again, placing blame for the violence on quote, both sides.
00:30You had a group on one side that was bad and you had a group on the other side that was also very
00:35violent.
00:36After failing to call out the hate groups by name over the weekend, Trump did denounce the
00:40KKK neo-Nazis and white supremacists Monday as repugnant and criminal
00:45criminals and thugs. On Tuesday, however, he fired off a series of questionable tweets
00:50and retweets, which he deleted before his press conference later in the day.
00:55I think that is the same thing.
00:56This is the only thing.
00:57We've seen a lot of people on the left that came charging at the, as you say, the Alt
00:58right. Do they have any.
01:00semblance of guilt? I think they do. Of course, late night hosts ripped into Trump
01:05s back-and-forth stances. Over on CBS s The Late Show, Stephen Colbert delivered...
01:10the news. The host explained, even though many criticized how long it took the
01:15president knew the right thing to do was make a statement on Monday. Be clear about...
01:20who was to blame and then move on to the people s business. Just kidding. He held a press
01:25conference today in what I believe was the seventh circle of hell. During the press
01:30conference, Trump also slammed the media saying, quote, if the press were not fake
01:35and were honest, the press would have said what I said was very nice. And if you were a better
01:40president, you would have said something very nice. Over on NBC s Late Night with Seth Meyers,
01:45clearly had to make a last-minute addition to the show. President Donald Trump held a press
01:50conference before we started taping, which means it's time for breaking crazy, Meyers said.
01:55Before going on to describe Trump s presser as, quote, clinically insane.
01:59Normally, when someone...
02:00When someone is talking that level of crazy, Batman crashes through the ceiling and punches him.
02:05On ABC s Jimmy Kimmel Live, there were also some last-minute changes. Cutting the babies in paradise
02:10skits. Say it ain't so, Jimmy. Anyway, Trump s meltdown led to the monologue being reworded
02:15according to Kimmel. I even thought, hey, maybe we won't talk much about Donald Trump
02:20tonight. And then he opened his mouth and all manner of stupid came out.
02:25The post added he would feel more comfortable if Game of Thrones' Cersei Lannister were running
02:28the country at this moment. Anyway...
02:30He has a point. Those Lannisters do always pay their debts. That's for all my GOT fans.
02:35Here. Kimmel went on to describe how the press conference degenerated so far into absurd
02:40that it was like a book club meeting turning into a cockfight.
02:43I feel like I can say this with...
02:45The President is completely unhinged. The wheels are off the wagon.
02:50And hurtling towards the moon right now.
02:52All right, guys. Those are just some of the best late-night moments.
