00:00The 2018 Miss America pageant on Sunday night had a yodeling ventriloquist, a woman who knew
00:05everything about aliens, and a contestant who slammed President Donald Trump.
00:09Miss Texas, Morgana Wood, was asked about Trump's response to the incidents last month
00:15in Charlottesville, Virginia. The president stirred controversy when he initially declined
00:19to single out the white supremacists and neo-Nazis. Their demonstration against the removal of
00:24a General Robert E. Lee statue led to violence and the death of a counter-protester.
00:28Trump also said that there were some very fine people on both sides. Wood took her 20 seconds
00:33of allotted time to answer the question to criticize Trump. Wood said,
00:37I think that the white supremacist issue, it was very obvious that it was a terrorist attack.
00:42She went on to say this,
00:43And I think that President Donald Trump should have made a statement earlier addressing the fact
00:48and making sure all Americans feel safe in this country.
00:51She concluded her answer by saying,
00:53That is the number one issue right now. Wood went on to receive a fourth runner-up.
00:57Meanwhile, Cara Mund became the first Miss North Dakota in history to be crowned Miss America.
01:02She also took on Trump during her final question, saying the president was wrong to withdraw the U.S.
01:07from the Paris Climate Agreement. According to Mund,
01:10There is evidence that climate change is existing. So whether you believe it or not, we need to be at that table.
01:16And I think it's just a bad decision on behalf of the United States.
