Transcript
00:00Jon Stewart has now weighed in on President Donald Trump's highly criticized reaction to
00:05Charlottesville. The former Daily Show host made his feelings known during a guest appearance
00:09at Dave Chappelle's stand-up show in New York City this week. New York Times culture reporter
00:13SoPan Deb was in the audience and transcribed Stewart's comments, sharing them on Twitter.
00:17According to the reporter, Stewart said,
00:20"...it wasn't so much that there were Nazis, it was really the reaction by certain presidents."
00:25The comedian reportedly exclaimed,
00:26He joked that America used to be with the Allied powers, but it seems like Trump signed a treaty
00:37that nobody knows about. Stewart continued,
00:40"...in the president's defense, he is a terrible person," adding that he doesn't think that
00:44every person who likes Trump is a Nazi, but everybody who is a Nazi sure does seem to like him.
00:49He went on to tell the story of how Trump tweeted about him four years ago and said,
00:53"...if Jon Stewart is so above it all and legit, why did he change his name from Jonathan Leibowitz?
00:58He should be proud of his heritage." Stewart told the crowd,
01:01"...basically, it goes back to an old white supremacist trope, which is Jews amongst us."
01:06He added that Trump was basically saying to people,
01:08"...just so you know, he's a Jew," and,
01:10"...signaling to the underworld that Jews are amongst us." The comedian added,
01:14"...honestly, if Jews controlled the media, why wasn't I on a network?"
