00:00Cameroonian opposition leader Issa Cheroma has denied holding talks with President Paul Bia's government,
00:07rejecting rumours of negotiations following last year's disputed presidential election.
00:12Cheroma, who fled into exile in the Gambia, insisted he was the rightful winner of the October vote,
00:19which saw 92-year-old Bia re-elected for an eighth term, extending his role that began in 1982.
00:28Speculation about possible dialogue intensified in recent days as President Bia promised to appoint a new government in its New Year address,
00:37appointments that have yet to materialise.
00:40But Cheroma's spokesperson dismissed the claim, saying there was no discussion, no compromise, and no participation in any electoral process whatsoever.
00:49In a statement, Cheroma said he had never intended to negotiate what he described as his electoral victory neither before nor after the vote.
