00:00Cameroon's Constitutional Council on Monday declared long-serving President Paul Beyer
00:11the winner of the country's October 12th presidential election, extending its rule
00:16that has spanned more than four decades. It was denounced by Clemens Atangana,
00:23President of the Constitutional Council in Yaoundé. According to official figures,
00:27Beyer secured 53.66% of the vote, defeating its former ally, turning challenger Issa Chiroma Bakari,
00:37who received 39.19%. The council said the voter turnout stood at 57.7%.
00:45The announcement came a day after violent clashes erupted in several cities and the economic capital,
00:51Douala security forces opened fire on demonstrators protesting alleged electoral fraud,
00:58leaving at least four people dead, according to local reports. In northern city of Garoua,
01:03opposition supporters also took to the streets. On social media, Chiroma accused security forces
01:10of firing on civilians, claiming two people were killed in his hometown.
