00:02Cameroonian lawmakers' mandates were supposed to end on 10th of March last year.
00:07But then, President Paul Biya extended them until the end of this month.
00:12And on Thursday, they were extended once again until December 2026.
00:19The move means that legislative elections will be delayed once more, and it is raising questions.
00:26Officially, Cameroon's president justified the delay with two different reasons.
00:31One, it would alleviate the financial burden of organizing elections on the state budget.
00:37Two, it would give more time to the electoral body to organize the vote.
00:42But these explanations are not enough to erase the doubts
00:46in a country that has not seen another president than Paul Biya in four decades.
00:50By law, the parliamentary's mandates can be extended for a maximum of 18 months.
