00:00Hello, welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:03It is going to be a pretty soggy afternoon for some parts of particularly England.
00:08Other areas seeing some sunny spells.
00:11Here's the view from space.
00:12You can see all the speckling on the cloud here.
00:15That's showers drifting up towards the northwest of Scotland.
00:18Some sunshine elsewhere, but it's down to the south, this large area of cloud.
00:22That's what's bringing in the rain.
00:24A little ripple, a little wiggle, a little waving weather front as we call it.
00:27These always give us a few headaches, and you can see this is trying to develop into an area of low pressure.
00:33And it's certainly bringing some wet conditions across southern areas.
00:36Southern England in particular, but also parts of southeast Wales.
00:40That rain through the afternoon continuing to spread across the Midlands and up towards parts of northeast England.
00:46In this zone, it's going to be wet, and later on the winds could really start to whip up too.
00:50We do have a warning in place for that rainfall.
00:53That same weather system bringing quite a lot of cloud to northern England and Wales,
00:56but West Wales, far southwest of England, seeing some sunny spells.
01:00But the driest, brightest weather certainly today for Scotland and Northern Ireland,
01:04although we are continuing to feed some showers into the far northwest.
01:08Temperature-wise, so on the cool side actually for Scotland and Northern Ireland,
01:11a little cooler than yesterday, only 5 or 6 degrees.
01:14But if you've got the sunshine and light winds, that shouldn't feel too bad at all.
01:17Compare and contrast further south with the heavy rain and the strengthening winds.
01:217 to 9 degrees here will feel pretty miserable, I suspect.
01:25And that rain will continue well into the evening.
01:28We do have a Met Office yellow warning in place.
01:3110 to 20 millimetres of rain likely.
01:34Could see as much as 40 millimetres in some locations.
01:37That could cause some issues.
01:39Certainly a lot of spray, a lot of surface water on the roads for the evening rush out.
01:44Potential for some local flooding.
01:45And the winds will suddenly whip up this evening too.
01:47That'll help to push it all the way through the night.
01:50So after a wet evening, it does turn drier through the second half of the night.
01:53At the same time, some showers will drift into Wales and around the coast of southwest Scotland
01:57and the east of Northern Ireland.
01:59And some showers drifting onto the south coast of England too.
02:02But elsewhere, many places becoming dry and clear.
02:04And that means one of two things.
02:06Either it turns frosty or it's likely to turn foggy.
02:09So misty, murky conditions setting in and those temperatures tumbling.
02:13Certainly across northern England, northwards will see a fairly extensive frost.
02:16It could get down to minus five to minus eight where there's snow still lying on the ground.
02:20So a frosty start.
02:21Beware of foggy conditions first thing on Friday morning.
02:25Fog could take a while to clear.
02:27So it could be a bit of a grey, grotty day for some.
02:29But we should see some brighter skies.
02:31Certainly a brighter day for the Midlands and East Angle in the southeast compared to today.
02:36Further west, there'll be showers.
02:37And in fact, the showers could just continue to feed in on this southerly wind
02:42into the east of Northern Ireland and southwest Scotland.
02:44And not just showers, the old thunderstorm thrown in.
02:46Same goes for parts of Wales and southwest England.
02:48So these western areas seeing fairly frequent heavy showers during Friday.
02:53But generally for eastern areas and central parts of the UK, much drier than today.
02:58A mixture of low cloud though and some sunny spells coming through,
03:02which could lift the temperatures up to seven to nine degrees.
03:04So similar to today's, but obviously without the rain, it'll feel a lot milder.
03:08But some places where we've got the frost overnight and that fog sticks,
03:11temperatures could really struggle across parts of Scotland.
03:14So it's a real mishmash.
03:15And that's going to continue even into the weekend through Friday evening.
03:18We'll continue to feed some heavy showers in here, but plenty of drier weather further east.
03:24For more details on the weekend, you can catch our full weekend forecast.
03:29That'll be available on our YouTube channel on Thursday afternoon.
