00:00So, whose playoff party are you going to?
00:05888-957-9570.
00:08Would you like to go?
00:10And you've got to tell me if you...
00:12I think you're one of the hosts of the party, so I hope you'll come.
00:17Okay.
00:18The Willard and Dibbs party this weekend for Niners-Eagles is like,
00:23this is so great.
00:25The Niners are in the playoffs, even with all of the crap that's happened.
00:30Let's go, Niners.
00:32Isn't this awesome that we're here?
00:34Let's eat.
00:36And go, Niners.
00:38Or do you want to go to the Lucas and Mark with a C party,
00:43where upon arrival, furrowed brows, arms cocked, ready to throw remote controls,
00:50food will be burnt, anger will be served at halftime.
00:56This is a misrepresentation sensation.
00:58Not at all.
00:59Not at all.
01:01Super high expectations, super pissed if they lose.
01:07What's his name?
01:08Garrett Wallow.
01:09He better show.
01:10Yep.
01:11He better freaking run.
01:13Bang, bang, Wallow gang.
01:15That's right.
01:15You're in the uniform, dog.
01:17You better go out there and make plays.
01:18You're wearing number 49.
01:20That's right.
01:21That's hallowed ground.
01:23You better be amazing, Garrett.
01:25You guys are watching the game from a bouncy house.
01:28We got a big screen and we're locked in.
01:30We're coaching our team.
01:31You guys are barely even watching the game.
01:32This is fun.
01:33What the hell's wrong with the bounce house?
01:35What's wrong with the bounce house?
01:37Can't even see the game from in there.
01:38You got to put the kids somewhere.
01:40I don't want them sitting on my lap.
01:42And you have no furniture.
01:43You're just a bunch of dudes with their arms folded, standing angrily.
01:47I'm on one of those giant light blue ergo balls working on my core.
01:52Bounce, bounce, bounce.
01:53That's the other thing about the Lucas and Grandy party.
01:55Yes, the TV is on a big overturned box.
01:58No furniture.
01:59It's big, though.
02:00Oh, it's big.
02:01It's really big TV.
02:02It's tremendous.
02:02You spend all the money on the TV.
02:04BYO snacks.
02:06Yeah, and the food is despacho and borscht.
02:10Cold soups is what we're serving.
02:12Right.
02:12We're serving a cold reality of shut the hell up and win.
02:16Mark and I are going to add.
02:17Yeah, which party do you want to go to?
02:18We've got like animal-shaped chicken nuggets.
02:21I'm going to make meat turnovers.
02:23Oh, don't say turnover.
02:24No, yeah, I'll put little peas on them for Philadelphia.
02:26You can't make turnovers.
02:27Yeah, my mom used to make little meat turnovers.
02:29They were incredible.
02:31They were great at a football party.
02:33Yeah.
02:33Why can't they be about the other team?
02:35They can, but Philly doesn't usually turn it over.
02:37No, but you eat them when the other team's got the ball.
02:39Put some chicken in there, some sort of bird.
02:40You don't tell my mom what to do.
02:42She's an amazing cook.
02:43You get it?
02:44Eagles.
02:45We need them to turn the ball over.
02:46See what he's doing in there?
02:47We.
02:47I do.
02:48We.
02:48Fans.
02:49We.
02:50All right.
02:51Which party are you going to?
02:52I mean, you can go to that party.
02:54Go to that party.
02:54Sounds super fun.
02:56Yeah.
02:56Super fun.
02:57We're not actually having a party.
02:59Grandy and I are watching in our own room separately, locked in.
03:02Locked in.
03:03Angry.
03:04I'll actually be at Chase Center.
03:06Oh, okay.
03:06That's right.
03:07The Warriors.
03:07You don't have to let facts get in the way of a good story, Grandy.
03:10Yeah, Grandy.
03:12All right.
03:13I'm super enthused and encouraged that they can win, and if they do win, I will be mildly
03:19surprised.
03:20And if they don't win, I'll be bummed.
03:23But by the time we get back here on Monday and we start to pick through the autopsy of
03:27a season, you and I already talked about it.
03:29Like, I'm at a 7 on satisfaction, and even if they lose 38-3, that might go down to a
03:366.5.
03:37It's not going to go much lower.
03:38That would suck.
03:40Maybe you just tapped into something with the way you just said that.
03:43And maybe we're doing too much talking about the Niners losing, like they're allowed to
03:48win.
03:49But if this is a loss, relax, they're an underdog.
03:53If this is a loss on Monday, and again, remove embarrassing blowout.
03:59Or choke job.
04:01Right, right, right, right.
04:02Remove Purdy throwing four picks, or Eddie Pinheiro doinking a 25-yarder to win at the
04:09buzzer, or something like that.
04:11Remove that stuff.
04:13Let's say, garden variety, you lose the football game.
04:1624-20.
04:16There you go.
04:17You lose 24-20.
04:19On Monday, are you bummed, or are you pissed?
04:22I'm bummed.
04:24I'm more bummed than I am pissed.
04:25And again, it's all context, but if the defense is bend but don't break, and the offense is
04:31good but just not quite good enough, and you lose a clean game, they played clean, you
04:37played clean, and they just were one or two plays better.
04:39I'm bummed.
04:40I don't think I'd be pissed.
04:42That's just me.
04:44Is that how you guys would answer that, by the way?
04:46They're already pissed.
04:47Would you be bummed or pissed?
04:49Well, it depends exactly how the game ended, but...
04:52Garden variety.
04:54Just...
04:54No, like, late game interception.
04:56No.
04:56No terrible fumble.
04:57No missed field goal.
04:58You played from behind the whole game.
05:00It was a close game.
05:02And the Eagles were better.
05:0224-20, and it largely, like, Bobby No. 49, Bobby Smith, or whatever the hell his name
05:11is, couldn't tackle Saquon Barkley.
05:14Yeah.
05:14I think I'd be more bummed than pissed or frustrated.
05:17But like I said before, for me, it's so much less about how you feel after the game, and
05:21it's your mindset going into the game.
05:24And that's where I think we, at least me and you, Willard, have the biggest difference.
05:27And so I'm going into the game not just happy to be here.
05:30I'm going into the game knowing that, all right, they're here, that's great, but now
05:34the next challenge begins.
05:36Can I remove the word just?
05:39I don't mind if you say I'm happy to be here.
05:42I'm not just happy to be here.
05:44Like, it kind of feels like you're already writing that this is going to be a loss.
05:48No, not at all.
05:49I'm trying my darndest to describe where I'm coming from on this.
05:54It's not just happy to be here.
05:57That's like almost not caring who wins.
06:02I care who wins.
06:04Okay, I'm just going to say, at least me and Lucas back here, it doesn't sound that way.
06:08Shut up, Lucas.
06:10It sounds to us like you're just like, all right, regardless of the result, man, what
06:14a ride.
06:15We're having a conversation right now, and I'm explaining it to you.
06:19Okay, yeah, I want to hear more.
06:20It's not just happy to be here.
06:22But, damn it, I'm going to acknowledge the achievement that has already happened.
06:28I am going to acknowledge that, like, this feels a little bit like a bonus.
06:36This feels like there is at least a goal that we set for them that they nailed.
06:46Yes, but they achieved it.
06:48New information, and I love the guru expression because the new information is you went 12 and
06:535, and you go to Philly, and when you really look hard at Philadelphia, as we all have over
06:58the course of the year and throughout this week, they're not that good.
07:02Their coordinator doesn't do the right things with their offense, in my opinion.
07:06Their offensive line's been up and down.
07:09Their defense is really good, but they are beatable.
07:11And I think about how we would feel if they played the exact same game against Philly that
07:18they did against Seattle, where they gave up a 37-yard touchdown run.
07:23You couldn't stop a 3rd and 17.
07:24A bit disappointing.
07:25McCaffrey coughed it.
07:26I'd be more pissed if it went that way.
07:29I'm not going to remove disappointment.
07:31Like, that would be disappointing.
07:32If you can't even put on a show.
07:34If you can't even score a touchdown.
07:36Right.
07:36That would be disappointing.
07:37And you lose 14-3, and you cough it up at the goal line, and you give up a 3rd and 17,
07:42and all the other bad things that happen.
07:44If that happens again, I would be more in the grandy, I'm just pissed, camp.
07:49I mean...
07:50It's all context, right?
07:51I get that.
07:52By the way, quick aside, because we promised this.
07:55Brock Purdy, do you think about the building and the injury in terms of when you walk back
08:02into that building this weekend?
08:04A little bit, but not really.
08:06You know, obviously, I'm thankful to be able to have healed up from the injury and go to
08:10the Super Bowl and have three more seasons after what had happened there.
08:13But, you know, more than anything, it's our 2025 season and trying to finish strong and
08:18go in and compete against a new team scheme kind of feel.
08:23That's where my mindset's at with that.
08:25Obviously, we know Philly and being there and their environment, their fans, all the
08:29things.
08:30It's getting prepared for that right now rather than having flashbacks or anything like
08:34that.
08:35I already went there in 2023 and played after what had happened in 22.
08:39So, I feel like that's out of the way and ready to move on.
08:41All right.
08:41There's Brock's answer, too.
08:42And I love the answer.
08:43Is he haunted by this, basically?
08:45I mean, you might be haunted by the arm injury, but are you buoyed by the fact that you threw
08:49for 3-14 and four touchdowns and you went to Philly and you absolutely ruined them?
08:55You broke them.
08:56And you said it going in like, Philadelphia is overrated and this might break them.
09:00And, in fact, it broke Philadelphia when they went there and beat the Eagles 42-19.
09:05They won one more game the rest of the year.
09:06Right.
09:07So, that to me is as much a part of the muscle memory for Brock than the NFC Championship
09:11game.
09:12I like that.
09:12Yeah, absolutely.
09:14So, this is a perfect way to sort of like, I think, bring our conversation to the next
09:20spot on the dial here.
09:22408 just texted in on our Boxer and Gerson work injury attorney's text line.
09:26Thank you so much for listening and engaging.
09:28We really appreciate it.
09:30408 says, exactly.
09:32He's agreeing with the other room here.
09:34Willard just gave up already.
09:37Two things I'd love to say about this.
09:39I'm not playing this weekend.
09:42There's no give up.
09:45There's no...
09:46Do you all, like, get into a circle and do a pregame speech or something?
09:54Like...
09:54Grandy and Lucas doing the boombox?
09:57That tickles me.
09:58Do you take the field?
09:59When you come into the living room, do you come downstairs, like, to a beat?
10:05Do you do that, Grandy?
10:07Oh, yeah.
10:08Of course.
10:08Eye black.
10:09So...
10:10I thank you.
10:12I just want to say that first of all.
10:13I'm tired of getting pushed around.
10:14I didn't give up because I'm not doing anything.
10:18I'm just...
10:19I'm a bystander this weekend.
10:22So there's no give up because I'm not holding on to anything.
10:25You got to go out there and be tough.
10:27I'm going to be tough, but what I'm mainly going to do is just take care of my server
10:31because, like, we're going to be at an establishment and eating and drinking.
10:36Okay.
10:37So that's number one.
10:38But the point I'm trying to get at is not really even about whether the Niners can go
10:46on a playoff run or whether it does, indeed, end this weekend.
10:51This has been, and I think everyone who's joining all these shows is trying to tell you this
10:56if you listen, this has already been a great year.
11:01This has already been a great year.
11:03I know a lot of you love to Super Bowl or bust.
11:06I think I've been as consistent as I possibly can be.
11:10I don't think that way.
11:12I don't do Super Bowl or bust.
11:15I am very hopeful of the Niners winning the Super Bowl all the time.
11:20But I don't just remove context and go, damn it, Super Bowl or bust.
11:27This has already been a great season.
11:31Now we start the next season and, like, let's see what they can do.
11:36But if you want me to just remove the Warner, Bosa, Purdy, Kittle, Pearsall,
11:44and a sprinkling of Trent Williams injuries from this conversation, I refuse.
11:50Well, you should.
11:51I won't do it.
11:52You should do it.
11:52Why?
11:53Because this Niner team is facing that Eagle team.
11:56And so everything that's happened through the first 17 games,
11:59and this is where you and I differ,
12:00you've gotten to 12-5 with all of the things that have happened,
12:04all the different injuries, step-up performances, found money,
12:08Jake Tonjes, kick or switch, Morstead didn't punt for a month, whatever.
12:12All the things that happened, you are now here.
12:15This is who you have.
12:16This is who you're going to get on the plane with tomorrow,
12:18and that's who you're going to go up against Philadelphia with.
12:21And the odds makers think you have a puncher's chance.
12:23Four and a half point dogs, and that's an implied probability of a 33% chance.
12:30One in three.
12:31So you have a one in three shot to go there and beat Philadelphia.
12:34So forget Fred and Nick and Dee and Tatum and whoever you don't have,
12:39who you do have, the experts think that you still have a one in three chance.
12:43So that's where I'm not in expectation mode, but I'm beyond hope.
12:48I think that you have a great chance to go there, and I know you're not giving up.
12:53I'm not giving up.
12:54If you were giving up, you wouldn't even watch the game.
12:56Have I said that today?
12:58You haven't.
12:59But here's an example.
13:00Have I said today that the Niners cannot win?
13:03No, you haven't.
13:04And so, like, you know, yay, team, let's get gummy bears,
13:09and whatever happens at 1.30 on Sunday.
13:12Have I said that?
13:13No.
13:13So the Warriors played the Thunder, I guess that was at Monday or Sunday,
13:18whenever that was, and no Steph, no Draymond, no Jimmy,
13:22and you're going up against one of the best teams in basketball.
13:25I watched it for a little while.
13:26That was lame.
13:27But that was one of those ones where you just,
13:29Steve Kerr coming up in a half an hour, you go,
13:31and that's a give up where it's like you're not going to win this one.
13:34Even if you had those guys, you probably still wouldn't win.
13:37That was a strategic give up.
13:38Whatever.
13:39Whatever it was.
13:39I mean, the Warriors are going to wish Nowski on, you know, 10 games a year,
13:43and we know that.
13:44This is not that.
13:45This is a playoff game, and I mentioned before,
13:48teams that are road dogs of four or more points,
13:51they win 26% of the time.
13:54Well, the Niners have a 34% chance to win,
13:56so of all these road dogs,
13:59they are seen as having a better chance than most in this spot.
14:02No, but that's fine.
14:03Yeah, and these are just numbers.
14:04They're my numbers.
14:05They might win.
14:06They might win.
14:07They might win.
14:08And we're sort of more, and I get it,
14:10like in a way this is kind of a hypothetical conversation
14:14because we keep doing the whole like what if they lose,
14:18and if they lose, what if it's like this,
14:20what if they lose like that,
14:21I don't know that they're going to lose at all.
14:23And yes, not all losses are built the same.
14:26In a way, in a way, I'm trying,
14:29and clearly with some people failing,
14:31but I'm trying to say that this moment isn't even about what happens next.
14:37This moment is about what has already happened.
14:42That's what I'm getting at,
14:43and I am super excited that we have got this week to talk about this.
14:49I'm super excited that on Sunday afternoon this game is happening.
14:55I don't, one of the other things where you and I don't agree,
14:58I do not believe that if this scenario had been pitched to someone before the season,
15:05I do not believe that any of you would have thought they would go 12-5 and be in the playoffs.
15:10I do not believe that.
15:11I reject it when people do what our most recent texter just did and go,
15:16every team's got injuries.
15:18Rejected?
15:19No.
15:19No, not every team does.
15:21I don't know what the final tally was as far as, like, starter games missed due to injury.
15:26They were the leaders about halfway through.
15:27They ended the leaders,
15:29and by the way, if you just want to remove the obvious context of what we're talking about,
15:35there is no team in the NFL that has lost more games from the core of what they do.
15:41It's not just great players.
15:43It's the core of what they do.
15:44You give me another team that misses its quarterback for half of a year
15:49and loses its clear two, not just best, but foundational superstar defensive players
15:57for the entire year to catastrophic injury.
16:01Tell me the other team that's out there that faced that.
16:04You're not going to find it.
16:05That doesn't exist.
16:07At 12-5.
16:09I don't even know if any other team had that happen,
16:11let alone have it happen and win.
16:13So, I apologize if me acknowledging that somehow doesn't fit what you're thinking today
16:23as you get ready for a playoff game.
16:25But that's where I am.
16:28Where I am is, this is incredible.
16:32This is incredible that we get to go do this this weekend.
16:35And then maybe they'll win.
16:37And maybe next weekend, too.
16:39And then I'm going to be, by the way, next Thursday, I'm going to do another freaking
16:44gratitude show.
16:45Sure, another house money show.
16:46And I'll give up on that game, too.
16:48Another everything is awesome show.
16:50It'll be awesome.
16:50And all the rest of it.
16:51Niners will be on their way to Seattle, and I'll be like, there's no way they can win that
16:56one, but isn't it fun that we're here?
16:58Yeah.
16:58Like, I don't know, man.
16:59It's just not what I'm saying.
17:01Yeah, I get it.
17:01And I think a lot of you are missing out on the point that y'all made when they were
17:056-4, which is that you wanted them to make the playoffs.
17:08And they did.
17:09And now you're like, you better be awesome.
17:11Well, you can change your opinion based on new information.
17:14And so I'm not in the mode of, you better, but you look at all six games this weekend
17:19and into Monday, there's only one that is seen as an absolute walloping and a lopsided
17:25game.
17:25You've got three road dogs, or home dogs, rather.
17:30You've got Carolina 10.5 point dog at home, and then you've got this game, which is kind
17:35of almost a toss-up.
17:36Four and a half points, not quite a toss-up, but very much in play.
17:41And just looking at the two teams this year, Philadelphia, when they win the time of possession
17:46battle, undefeated.
17:47Niners, same thing.
17:49And when they run it 30 times, each team is undefeated.
17:52So if you want to talk about how this game goes, it's as simple as that.
17:56It's turnovers, obviously, but it's who possesses it and who's able to run it more.
18:00Let's freaking go.
18:01Yep.
18:02Yeah, I'm Randy.
18:03What's up?
18:03Can I read something to you or a couple things from the YouTube chat?
18:06Oh, God, the YouTube chat.
18:08I turned them off.
18:09I told them about an hour in the show.
18:12I said, y'all are entertaining as hell.
18:14But, I mean, you guys are just, you're completely out of your minds today.
18:18So anyway, go ahead.
18:19You can join the conversation, youtube.com slash 957thegame.
18:22Apollo Crews writes, Willard is pulling a Devondre Campbell on you guys.
18:27Okay.
18:28And A-Change999 said, Willard is pulling a Draymond and ejecting himself.
18:34A-Change, boy, I don't know if I'm going to be able to handle criticism from, I'm sorry,
18:39was it A-Change999?
18:41That's correct.
18:42He does have a good point, though.
18:44You know what, though?
18:45You're quitting on him, Willard.
18:46You just gave two examples of people who left in the middle of their job, and I am sitting
18:53right here.
18:55So, I'm right here.
18:58I'm right here.
18:58And you also just compared me.
19:00This is what I'm trying to say.
19:01You all just compared me to two people who play for the teams.
19:05I'm not on the team.
19:07It doesn't matter what my, I love that, Grandy, you used the word mindset.
19:10Your mindset doesn't matter this weekend.
19:15I'm sorry to break it to you.
19:17We're fans of the team.
19:19Yes.
19:20And that's all we are.
19:21But you say that, and at the same time, you all get mad when I say, oh, so-and-so's got
19:26a no-hitter going.
19:27We can't do that, because now we're affecting the proceedings.
19:30Oh, yeah, because that's...
19:31That's a great point, Dibs.
19:32No, it's not.
19:32It's kind of like you not having an iPhone.
19:35That's the way I look at that.
19:36I'm like, well, you just do what we're doing.
19:38See, I make a good point, and then he brings it back to...
19:41No, I don't like it.
19:42Right.
19:42It's a great point, though.
19:43I don't think it was a great point.
19:45If your mindset and your lack of confidence in the Niners, and you don't have a total lack,
19:51but you're not as bullish on them as some, that doesn't affect how the Niners play.
19:56Much like when I tweet out, ooh, Blake Snell's got a perfect game going, and then he gives
20:00up the hit.
20:00That's not on me.
20:01Of course it's not.
20:03Right.
20:03You've never taken my ribbing on that seriously, have you?
20:06No, but people freak out on that.
20:07Well, of course they do.
20:08I mean, people freak out on the internet.
20:11I don't know if you've ever been there before.
20:12Yeah, a couple times.
20:13Yeah.
20:14If you're not locked in on this game, like boombox on your shoulder, eye black on, that's
20:20going to affect the Niners, Mark.
20:21Well, I just, like, again, I'm trying to talk more about how we got here, as opposed
20:28to then what happens next.
20:29Like, I think a lot of people lost their juice for the whole, like, I just hope we make the
20:36playoffs.
20:37I think a lot of people lost their juice.
20:39That's all.
20:40And I, like, I didn't.
20:43I didn't.
20:44Like, we arrived here, and a lot of people, not everybody, but a lot of people forgot
20:49that this is what you were hoping for.
20:52I do think that the Seattle, the way that season ended, where all of a sudden our hopes
20:58were up for the one, and it was kind of a dud in all three phases, and you lost to a rival,
21:04and now you've got to go to Philly.
21:05I do think it's taken some time to get over it, and you and I and the group and the thread
21:10today, I was saying, no, I think people are more excited, and they're getting there, and
21:14you're like, you shouldn't have to get there for a playoff game.
21:17Completely.
21:17I do think, though, coming off of Seattle, and here we are now, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday,
21:22Wednesday, Thursday removed from it.
21:24By tomorrow, you know, we've got a college game tonight, another one tomorrow, so we're
21:29starting to get a little bit more of the fever.
21:31I think by Saturday, when this all kicks off, more fans are going to be more engaged.
21:36And in the past, when the Niners have been in the playoffs, has your experience been that
21:42it has taken until Saturday for it to feel like the playoffs?
21:46It's a different circumstance every time.
21:49Okay.
21:49And I think the fact that they were in a spot where, oh my God, can you believe they're going
21:54to get the one?
21:55They got Seattle at home, and then, oh.
21:58And not only, oh, but the way you play, and it's like, yeah.
22:00I get it.
22:01So that's why I think it's taking a little bit more time.
