00:00I love this.
00:01So I sit down.
00:02We just sat here and talked out things that included the Riverwalk.
00:07Yep.
00:08Dave Cowens.
00:09Had to.
00:10Rod Brooks.
00:11The Astrodome.
00:13I mean, that was all over the damn place.
00:15We sit down, and I look up, just so you all know,
00:18I don't see the Boxer and Gerson work injury attorney's text line
00:21until I get to the seat where Steine sits.
00:25And so I sit down, and I look up, and there it is from the 925.
00:29Willard is hatin', because Shanahan hadn't won it all yet.
00:33And I'm like, I don't even know.
00:34What?
00:35What the hell?
00:36I love you.
00:37I love all of you so much.
00:38You're ready with your this dude's a Shanna fan and Purdy Homer takes
00:44before we've even sat down and said anything about it.
00:48God, I love you.
00:50Thank you for being here every day.
00:52What a compliment, you nut jobs.
00:55It's crazy.
00:55What a compliment.
00:56I didn't even think that you uttered the name Shanahan.
00:59I didn't.
00:59Even in the green room when we were getting ready for the show,
01:02I don't think you named Shanahan.
01:04I haven't said a word about Purdy or Shanahan all day.
01:07I do think I know.
01:09Possibly.
01:09I think he's talking about the Sirianni thing.
01:12Oh, yeah.
01:13I think maybe that's it.
01:14That was a weird one.
01:15It is.
01:16And not to be outdone, LeFleur was weird too.
01:20He's like, it's fourth and one, and we absolutely have to have this.
01:24It's getting shotgun formation.
01:27And then just kind of handed to Josh Jacobs about six yards behind the line of scrimmage
01:33when the Eagles were apparently all yelling what play was going to be run before it was even run.
01:39Like, what?
01:41What the hell was the last minute of that game last night?
01:43It was bananas is what it was.
01:45And that's one of the pet peeves that Lo Neal and I used to talk about when we were doing the show together
01:50is you need a yard, so you're going to give it to the running back five yards behind the line of scrimmage,
01:54so now you need to get six yards.
01:56Just sneak the thing up in there.
01:58Just go ahead and tush-push or do whatever you need to do to just get the yard.
02:02The Niners did it this weekend too, fourth and one.
02:05They ran that big, wide stretch play, and McCaffrey gained about four yards,
02:09but he started six in the hole, so there you have it.
02:12There you have it.
02:13But anyway, with the Warriors about to play the Thunder, and I do think that I, I don't know about you,
02:20I woke up feeling, and sometimes it takes me this, look, we're all emotional fans and everything,
02:25and some people are over it in an hour.
02:28Some people never get over it.
02:30Like, for instance, ask me about the 2002 World Series.
02:33Ask me about it.
02:34Oh, I've done it.
02:34Yeah.
02:34And you get this really angry face, and you get a little weepy.
02:38I'm not over it.
02:39You'll never be over it.
02:40I'm never going to be over it.
02:41They screwed the whole thing up.
02:43I'm never going to be over it.
02:44But I woke up today, and I just started, I started reading some things, and I started thinking about it,
02:52and I'm like, I get it.
02:53It's never fun when your team loses.
02:56It's never fun when it feels sort of a fait accompli.
02:59It's never fun when one side of the ball feels like they're just not competitive at the professional level,
03:06and that's what Sunday felt like.
03:08And then I just arrived at a new spot where I'm like, they're supposed to lose that game.
03:13They're like, the Rams are a better team right now.
03:16We can all admit that, right?
03:18The Rams are.
03:19Yeah.
03:19They were a better team the last time they played, though, and you still found a way to win that game.
03:24Yeah.
03:25I mean, again, all of these things are on paper.
03:28I do think situational.
03:29Were they a better team the first time?
03:32Maybe they were, but the Niners had enough to be in the game and do some things and try some things.
03:38Fred Warner played in that football game.
03:40Yeah, he sure did.
03:40Do you know what I mean?
03:41I look at the defense now, and I think you thought, I thought, a lot of people I know thought,
03:48well, Stafford's going to carve them up.
03:51They can't get a pass rush.
03:53They've got a bunch of rookies running around.
03:55Yeah, they're going to get carved.
03:57And then they did.
03:58Then they got carved, yeah.
04:00But even through that, it was a one-score game twice in the second half.
04:04Totally.
04:04Well, that's the NFL.
04:06That's professional sports.
04:07But I do think that those things sort of land differently, at least for me as a fan.
04:14And that's why I know that last week's a sexier matchup.
04:17You all get, in my opinion at least, this Sunday's a more important matchup.
04:22Because the Niners, in theory, are supposed to win.
04:26They have a better chance to win.
04:28This is a lesser team that they're playing.
04:30And the Niners will be favored, actually, until Christmas.
04:34And so, you might get up for the sexier matchup.
04:39But to me, it's also sort of easier to process, is it not?
04:43Like, they were supposed to lose that game.
04:46Yeah.
04:46And so, we could move that to tonight as well.
04:50The Warriors are supposed to lose this game.
04:53On paper, but I did like what Evan was saying in the crossover about, you know, how much easier it is to get up for a game like this.
05:00And Steini made a good point, too, where the Warriors don't want to go out there and get embarrassed.
05:05Oklahoma City is more athletic.
05:07They're younger.
05:09They have the best record.
05:10And they're defending champions.
05:11So, a prideful Warrior team is going to come out and give their absolute best effort.
05:16I know that.
05:17But, yeah, I'm looking at tonight's game.
05:19And the phrase I keep going back to in my own head is, it's okay if they lose.
05:24Of course, it's okay.
05:25There's 82 games.
05:26But I think about Sunday, the Niners at Arizona.
05:29Even though it was a one-point game last time and you needed some late heroics to get it done.
05:33It's not okay if the Niners lose to Arizona on Sunday.
05:36Agreed.
05:37I agree completely.
05:38Now, let me add this into the fold because I do think, A, NFL and NBA get hard to compare.
05:45One has 82 games.
05:46One has 17.
05:47But there's also a moving of the goalposts here that, for me, I think is allowable.
05:52And that is, I'm going to put the Warriors at a higher bar, a higher expectation level, a higher hope level, because I see them potentially.
06:06The journey needs to unfold.
06:08All things need to happen.
06:09Someone needs to be healthy.
06:10Blah, blah, blah.
06:11But I see the Warriors as potentially a team that could contend for a championship.
06:18Therefore, that's one bar.
06:21That's, like, you are going to have to, at least on some nights, show everybody that you can play with the best.
06:29And I'm sorry for this defeatist comment that I'm about to make.
06:32I do not see the 49ers as that.
06:35At all.
06:37This is not a championship contender.
06:39Therefore, I am not going to expect you, even for a weekend, yes, compete.
06:46Yes, I'll root.
06:47We'll make the food.
06:48We'll put on the gear.
06:49We're going to scream, yell, lose our voices.
06:52I'm not suggesting otherwise.
06:54But I don't go into a game against Rams, Seahawks, Lions, Eagles, you know, maybe Bucs, Packers, and expect the 49er defense in its current state to hold them down.
07:09I just don't.
07:10I hope.
07:10Well, you have an offense that can hopefully outscore other teams, and that's going to be the way it has to go.
07:17Your defense can play better, and they can make stops.
07:20And this game against Arizona is a different one because they're on their backup quarterback, even though Arizona's offense looks better with Percet than they did with Kyler Murray.
07:29So I don't think that if they make the playoffs, I won't automatically dismiss them as not a Super Bowl contender because you'll be in the tournament.
07:37That's all Kyle Shanahan has been saying.
07:39Just get in the tournament now.
07:40I wouldn't love their chances if they're the seventh seed and they have to go on the road, win, go on the road, win, go on the road, win, come home for the Super Bowl and beat an AFC team.
07:52They'll be underdog in all four of those games.
07:53So it's a long shot for sure.
07:56I never want, you know me, I never want to dismiss the magical.
08:01So sure, if it goes that way and we get there, consider me in, dibs.
08:06Of course.
08:07I'll wear a hat and a shirt, and we'll invite people over, and there will be a square pool and charcuterie.
08:13We'll do all of this stuff.
08:15But I'm also allowed to be wrong, and I'll sit here today and tell you that ain't happening.
08:20And then they're not going to go on a four-game winning streak in January and February.
08:25With three road games, and then you'd beat either Kansas City or Buffalo or Indy or whatever.
08:30That's not happening.
08:31It's just not.
08:32It's difficult.
08:33That's not happening.
08:34It's probably not happening.
08:35And, you know, egg on face, whatever.
08:37I'll do face paint.
08:38Whatever.
08:39You know what I mean?
08:39I'm just thinking about, and John Avello, your friend, the odds maker, would have a better, more realistic answer.
08:45But if you went on the road and played Philly, as if they're the two-seed, you're probably five-and-a-half, six-point dogs.
08:52For sure.
08:52Then you win that, and you go on the road at Detroit, you're probably five-and-a-half, six-point dogs against Detroit.
08:58You're going to be a heavy dog in all those games.
09:00Weird things can happen.
09:01Somebody else's quarterback could get hurt.
09:03Yeah.
09:03Or what?
09:03Like, you know what I mean?
09:05So, like, sure, there's an open-mindedness to all of it.
09:09But I find games like that a little easier to take than the other ones, and maybe that's counterintuitive.
09:16Because, like, the Rams, it's a rival.
09:18Tom Brady's in town.
09:20It's a big game.
09:20Okay, I get that.
09:22This is not as sexy this weekend.
09:25It just happens to be, in my opinion, more important.
09:27This is the one you get.
09:29It should be.
09:30The Niners have actually done this almost every week this year.
09:34You get the one you're supposed to get, and you don't get the one you're not supposed to get.
09:39Only twice in ten weeks has the opposite happen.
09:43They got one they weren't supposed to get, and they lost one they were supposed to get.
09:46It's only happened twice.
09:47Yeah.
09:48Outside of that, they're telling us who's going to win before the game.
09:51Basically.
09:52They told us who was going to win before this one, and they did.
09:54And it doesn't always go that way.
09:56No.
09:56And the Ram game is a classic example of that.
09:59And so, yeah, I said at the beginning of the year that you split the six divisional games,
10:04you go three and three in the division, that sets you up for an 11-win season.
10:07Well, now I don't think you can afford that because you lost to Houston, and you lost to Jacksonville.
10:14So, those are a couple of games that I was, at least one of those games I was banking on them winning.
10:18I hear you, but those are also in the AFC, and therefore they're a little bit less important.
10:23I get, like...
10:24They are, but I was thinking about the road to 11 wins, and it involved going three and three in the division,
10:29and going three and one against the South, and three and one against the other South.
10:32Right, but now they're probable to go maybe four and two in the division, not three and three.
10:36If they win this one.
10:37If they win this weekend.
10:38That's why I'm with you on the importance of it.
