00:00A multi-unit police exercise led by senior officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Police
00:04Service uncovered what investigators believe was a sophisticated indoor marijuana cultivation
00:10operation in Trin City. The exercise, which involved officers from several Deport of Spain
00:16units, first took police to Betham Gardens after reports of a man brandishing a firearm.
00:22Investigators say the suspect fled on seeing the officers, discarding a white box that
00:28allegedly contained a pistol fitted with a magazine holding two rounds of 9mm ammunition.
00:33Despite a chase, the suspect escaped. Police later executed a search warrant at a building
00:40along Orange Grove Road in Trin City, where officers reportedly detected a strong odor coming
00:46from inside the perimeters. Upon entering the building, investigators discovered what they
00:52described as an indoor marijuana cultivation site. Officers seized 112 marijuana plants growing
00:59inside an air-conditioned room equipped with ultraviolet lights, fans, humidifiers, and other
01:06equipment believed to have been used in the cultivation process. Police also recovered bags
01:11containing marijuana, carbon dioxide tanks, plant pots, and containers of chemicals. A 39-year-old
01:19caretaker was found at the property, while another man later arrived and allegedly claimed ownership of
01:25both the building and the cultivation operation. Both men were arrested and taken into police custody
01:31pending further inquiries. Crime scene investigators processed the scene and seized the items, which were
01:38then taken to the Besson Street police station as investigations continue. Alexander Brucewell, TV6 News.
