00:00Big cook, little cook, welcome to our cafe. Big cook, little cook, want you to come and play.
00:17Meeting all the friends we cook for, sharing stories, trips and fun. Big cook, little cook, we'll cook for everyone.
00:30Hello everyone, welcome to our cafe, the best cafe in the world. I'm hopping because I could only find one shoe this morning. I like hopping. Why don't you hop along with me?
00:48Hello everyone. What are you up to, little cook? I'm sorting out all my things. I fancy a change. You see, I'm fed up living amongst all these jars and sleeping in my bowl. I want to live somewhere exciting like a teapot or a watering can.
01:06Well, I'm sure we could find you somewhere else to live for a while, if you fancy a change. Ben, why are you hopping?
01:12Well, I'm hopping because I could only find one shoe this morning. I'm sure they were together when I went to bed. And now I can't think where they've gone. I've looked everywhere.
01:22Ben, stop hopping. You're making me dizzy.
01:24OK, well, I'll try. But if I put my sock down on the floor, I might wear it out.
01:30Hey Ben, why don't you borrow one of my shoes?
01:35Thanks, Mole. But I don't think that'd fit my big toe, let alone my big foot.
01:40Hey Ben, we'll have to look for your shoe later. In the meantime, we'd better hop to it. We've got a customer.
01:46OK, then. Here's your shoe back, little cook. Go and see who our customer is today. I'm on my way. Woo-hoo!
02:03Who's in our cafe today, Small?
02:05She's a little old lady who has lots and lots of children and lives in a shoe.
02:10Oh, I know, I know. Do you? It's the little old lady who lives in a shoe.
02:17She had so many children, she didn't know what to do.
02:20Now, what can we cook for a little old lady?
02:23I think it's time to look in my book.
02:35We need a story to help us cook.
02:37Let's take a look in little cook's book.
02:41Little cook's adventures in the big world. Let me see.
02:47One day, I was out taking a breath of fresh air when I bumped into an old red shoe,
02:53which was lying in the middle of a field.
02:55From out of the little door in the shoe appeared a jolly old lady,
03:00followed by lots and lots of children.
03:02The old lady told me she had so many children she didn't know what to do,
03:08and they were fast outgrowing their little shoe.
03:11They needed somewhere bigger to live.
03:15I could see there wasn't much room, so I decided to help.
03:19I knew of a few other empty shoes which might be just right.
03:22First, I took the old lady and her children to see a beautiful pink satin ballet shoe.
03:29It's beautiful, said the old lady,
03:33but it's not practical with all my children.
03:37They'll have mud all over it in no time.
03:39I could see her point and had another think.
03:44Next, I took them to an empty flipper.
03:47The old lady looked at the flipper and said,
03:50It's big and waterproof,
03:53but the shape would mean that my children would bang their heads.
03:57Hmm, I needed to think again.
04:02They followed me to a roller skate.
04:04The old lady's children loved the thought of this,
04:07but the old lady looked at it and said,
04:09It's good fun, but we might roll off down the hill.
04:15I had to agree.
04:16It didn't seem very safe to live in.
04:19Finally, I took them to see a builder's boot,
04:23which was on the edge of the city.
04:25The old lady looked at it closely and then exclaimed with glee,
04:30Perfect!
04:31It's hard-wearing, big, and it's just the right shape.
04:36The old lady who had once lived in a shoe now lived happily in a boot.
04:42I helped them move in, and we painted it a lovely blue colour.
04:48Little cook to the rescue once again!
04:51That was a great adventure!
04:54Oh, what a perfect place to live!
04:58A boot!
04:58Wahey!
05:00That's right, Ben!
05:01I'm glad I helped them find a new home.
05:03It was getting very cramped in their shoe.
05:06So, I wonder what somebody who lives in a boot would like to eat?
05:09Hmm.

06:23Ha-ha!
06:24But unfortunately, we've completely run out!
06:26We have got everything else, though!
06:28Well, don't worry, Ben!

06:32Ho-ho-ho!
06:32Good idea, Little Cook, and I'll get everything ready!

06:39Woo-hoo!
06:43Go, Small!
06:44Go, Small!
06:45Whiz away!
06:45I wonder what he'll see today!
06:59Oh, what a beautiful day!
07:00That's a swede!
07:04It's a vegetable and grows out of the ground!
07:09This field of swede are being harvested.
07:13The swedes are pulled out of the ground,
07:15and all the dirt is brushed off.
07:18All the swedes are collected in a big wooden crate.
07:22Here comes the tractor to pick up the crate full of swedes!
07:25They look really heavy!
07:37The swedes are checked to make sure there are no bad ones,
07:40and that they're all clean.
07:42Blub, blub, blub, blub, blub, blub, blub, blub, blub, blub, blub, blub, blub, blub.
07:45Down they come.
07:47And off they go!
07:48Woo-hoo!
07:53The box is a wade.
07:56And they're ready to go to the shops.
07:59I'd better get one of these swedes back to Ben.
08:02Bye!
08:09Now, where, oh, where did I put my shoe?
08:12Wahey!
08:14I'm back!
08:15I saw lots of swedes growing in a field,
08:18and I brought one back for the recipe!

08:56friends in our cafe,

09:01gets all rumbly,
09:03you're ready for a treat!
09:05You can make something
09:07delicious to eat!

09:19All clean and ready to cook!
09:22Do you remember the ingredients
09:23to pasty boot?
09:25You do!
09:26There was an onion,
09:28half, finely chopped,
09:30potatoes,
09:30three,
09:31chopped into cubes,
09:32olive oil,
09:33one tablespoon,
09:35minced beef,
09:36200 grams,
09:37an egg,
09:37one ready-made pastry,
09:41375 grams,
09:42ready-made,
09:43pre-rolled,
09:44and a swede,
09:45just a quarter,
09:46which we can chop
09:47into cubes later.
09:49Whoopee!
09:50Let's get started!
09:52And I suppose
09:52I'll have to cook
09:53with one shoe off
09:54and one shoe on!
09:56Hey Ben,
09:58I know a nursery rhyme
09:59about someone
09:59who had one shoe off
10:00and one shoe on!
10:02Diddled diddle dumpling,
10:04my son John
10:05went to bed
10:06with his trousers!
10:08One shoe off
10:09and one shoe on!
10:11Diddle diddle dumpling,
10:12my son John!
10:13Ha ha ha ha!
10:14I love that rhyme,
10:16little cook,
10:16but at least I'm not
10:17as silly as
10:18diddle diddle dumpling!
10:19I don't go to bed
10:20with my trousers on
10:21or my shoes!
10:22Ha ha ha!
10:23Right, okay,
10:24the first thing
10:25we need to do
10:25is turn on the oven
10:26to 200 degrees Celsius,
10:28gas mark six.
10:30And now remember,
10:31the oven is hot, hot, hot!
10:33So that's a job
10:34for your grown-up helper
10:34to do.
10:35And so is this.
10:36I've put a little oil
10:37into a saucepan
10:38and I'm going to
10:40fry the onions
10:41until they go golden.
10:44I've looked everywhere
10:52for your shoe, Ben,
10:53and I just can't find it.
10:55It's very, very odd.
10:57The great shoe mystery.
10:59Ha ha ha ha ha!
11:00Oh, yeah, it is, isn't it?
11:03Ooh!
11:04Right.
11:05Now, when the onions
11:06are golden,
11:07we can add the diced swede
11:08and the potato
11:12and we can cook and stir
11:17for about five minutes.
11:19Now, back to business.
11:27I was looking for
11:28a new home to live in.
11:29I wonder what I can find.
11:33Add the minced beef
11:35and stir the mixture
11:39from time to time
11:40for another ten minutes
11:42until the pink of the meat
11:46has gone brown.
11:48Ooh!
11:49I like this new home.
11:51It's a cereal packet.
11:53It's warm and cosy.
11:54But what about
11:55if it rains small?
11:56Won't the box go all soggy?
11:58I think you're right, Ben.
11:59A soggy home would never do.
12:01I think it's time
12:02to come up with a new idea.
12:04The meat's cooked now,
12:06so we can take it off the heat
12:09and pop the lid on
12:12until we're ready for it.
12:14And I can have a bit of a sing and a dance.
12:16Ho, ho, ho!
12:17Diddle, diddle, dumpling,
12:18my son John
12:19went to bed with his trousers on.
12:22One shoe off
12:23and one shoe on
12:24diddle, diddle, dumpling,
12:25my son John.
12:26Ha, ha, ha, ha!
12:29Oh, no, this won't do us at home.
12:32Oh, I know, I know.
12:33How about a handbag?
12:35Hoo-hoo!
12:38Now, I've put some flour down
12:40onto a clean surface
12:41and I've rolled the pastry out
12:43until it's one centimetre thick.
12:45Now, this pastry is pre-rolled,
12:47so you don't have to do too much rolling.
12:50Hey, look, I've found a handbag,
12:52but I can't believe
12:53how many things are in it.
12:54There's keys and a glasses case.
12:57And look, there's a brush.
13:00A handbag's for keeping things in,
13:02little cook, not for living in.
13:04Ho, ho, ho!
13:05Right.
13:06Now, I've rolled the pastry
13:07into two rectangles
13:08so that there's enough room
13:09for two boots.
13:10And I've also
13:11cut out the shape of a boot
13:13from some card to help me.
13:16And I'm going to cut around it
13:17with a blunt table knife
13:19like this.
13:23Now, if you don't want to do
13:24the shape of a boot,
13:25you can do any shape you like.
13:28Look what I've found!
13:29Some seaside rock!
13:31Yummy!
13:32Ho, ho!
13:34There we are.
13:36That's one.
13:37And now use your template
13:40to cut out a second boot.
13:42But this time,
13:43make it a little bit bigger
13:44all the way round
13:45to make room for the filling.
13:52Look at all this stuff!
13:54I could never share a home
13:55with all of this!
13:56Ho, ho, ho!
13:57I don't think a handbag
13:58is the right home for me either.
14:00But look at me!
14:01Ho, ho, ho!
14:02I've placed the smaller boot
14:04onto a grease baking tray
14:05and I've beat an egg
14:07in a bowl with a fork.
14:09So now I'm going to use
14:10a pastry brush
14:11to brush the egg
14:12all around the edge.
14:15Like this.
14:18A little bit more.
14:20All around the edge.
14:22And now I can spoon in the mixture.
14:27So here we are.
14:29This is going to be the filling.
14:31On it goes.
14:32This smells tasty.
14:35Some more.
14:38Just there.
14:41And one more, I think.
14:43Just there.
14:45OK.
14:47Now I'm going to pick up
14:48the bigger boot
14:49and place it on top.
14:54Now the egg
14:55should help the boots
14:58to stick together.
14:59and now I can just
15:02squidge it down
15:03around the edge
15:03like this.
15:07And always remember
15:08to wash your hands
15:10if you handle raw egg.
15:12I didn't manage to find
15:14a new home, Ben.
15:15Well, never mind, Small.
15:16Have a look at this.
15:18I'm going to use a fork
15:19to pierce the pastry
15:21all the way round
15:22to look like stitching.
15:24Hey, Ben, shall I make some boot
15:28laces from the leftover
15:29squidgy pastry?
15:30Good idea, little cook.
15:32Can't have a boot
15:32without boot laces.
15:34Lovely squidgy pastry.
15:36Woo-hoo!
15:37And now it's time
15:38to stick on the laces.
15:40So,
15:41one here
15:42and another here.
15:47Have you finished yours, Small?
15:49Yes, here we are, Ben.
15:52Thanks, Small.
15:53On it goes.
15:55And there we are.
15:56All finished.
15:57I'll just brush
15:58a little egg over the top
15:59so that it goes
16:01all brown and shiny.
16:02And then
16:06into the oven
16:08it goes
16:08for 20 minutes.
16:09So,
16:10oven gloves on
16:11and over we go.
16:22And make sure
16:23you get your grown-up help
16:23to do that bit for you.
16:26I'll set the timer
16:27for
16:2820 minutes.
16:32The tasty pasty boot
16:38is cooked and cooled now.
16:40We'd better get it off
16:41to the old lady
16:41who lived in a shoe
16:42before she gets so hungry.
16:44She doesn't know
16:45what to do.
16:46Right you are, Small.
16:48One pasty boot
16:49coming through.
16:53There.
16:54All done.
16:56So,
16:56what do we do now?
16:57Can't we play?
16:58Not yet.
16:59Time to clean
16:59and put away.
17:01Hooray!
17:02Wash, wipe, scrub and clean
17:11Make the kitchen
17:12Sparkle and gleam.
17:16My name's Ben
17:18and my name's Small
17:19We've got the cleanest
17:21kitchen of all.
17:24Tidy all the bits and bobs
17:25The things that help us
17:27do our job
17:27Ingredients well put away
17:29Ready for use another day
17:31Pots and pans
17:32We'll start to smell
17:33If we don't wash them
17:34really well
17:35And now it's clear
17:36Let's all smile
17:37We'll be finished
17:37in a little while
17:38All around
17:40Up and down
17:42We've got the cleanest
17:43cafe in town
17:45A-ha!
17:55Here comes the plate
17:56Oh yes
17:57It looks like the little old lady
17:59who lived in a shoe
18:00enjoyed her pasty boot
18:01little cook
18:02Look
18:02She's left a note
18:04What does it say?
18:05What does it say?
18:06Ho ho
18:07Let's see
18:08Shall we?
18:09It says
