Cookery series with Big Cook Ben and foot-high Little Cook Small.
Ben and Small practise ballet moves in the cafe, as they are off to the theatre to see Swan Lake. Their ballet moves are interrupted when a customer comes into the cafe - it is Samantha the Swan and they make her a swan sorbet. Small flies off to find out how wafers used in the recipe are made. To thank the duo for her meal, Samantha leaves them two pairs of tap dancing shoes so they can dance and make a noise.

00:01Big cook, little cook, welcome to our cafe.
00:08Big cook, little cook, want you to come and play.
00:15Meeting all the friends we cook for, sharing stories, trips and fun.
00:22Big cook, little cook, we'll cook for everyone!
00:28Woohoo! Here we go! Round and round!
00:33Hello! Welcome to our cafe, the best cafe in the world!
00:38Tonight's a very big night for us. We're going to a theatre to watch the ballet!
00:43We're very excited! Woohoo! We love ballet!
00:49Do you know what ballet is? Well, it's like a play, but nobody speaks.
00:55The story is told by music and dancing!
00:59And we love it! Woohoo!
01:01When you learn ballet, you learn a lot of very special movements, like this.
01:05This jump is called an entrechar, which means you have to jump up really high in the air, like this, and then cross your feet back and forth before you hit the ground again.
01:17Woohoo!
01:19Ben! Ben! Ballet dancers are supposed to be light on their feet!
01:24Woohoo! I am light on my feet!
01:27No, you're not! You're just clumping up and down!
01:31Well, I'd like to see you have a try. Let's see how light you are on your feet!
01:36OK, I will! I'm going to do a very difficult move called a pirouette. OK, here goes.
01:42Well, that wasn't very light. I think we need to practice more, Ben. You're right, Small. Let's just move around to the music.
01:57The ballet we're seeing tonight is called Swan Lake, where most of the dancers move about like swans!
02:06Woohoo!
02:12The way you're moving about, you're more like an elephant than a swan, Ben!
02:17Come on, Small. We've got a customer. Let's go and see who it is!
02:20I'm on my way! Woohoo!
02:23Who's our customer today, Small?
02:38You'll never guess.
02:41No, I won't. So give us some clues.
02:44Well, she's a bird, she's white and she's got a very long neck.
02:50Oh, I know. It's a swan.
02:54Yes! And I'm sure I've met this swan before. I think it's time to look in my book.
02:59We need a story to help us cook. Let's take a look in Little Cook's book.
03:15Little Cook's adventures in the big world. Let me see.
03:22One day my friend Emma invited me to her ballet class.
03:26As the boys and girls went through their exercises, I couldn't help noticing that Emma was having trouble.
03:33When all the other children's arms were up, hers were down.
03:37When all the other children's feet were pointed, hers were flat on the ground.
03:42When all the other children ran lightly across the floor, she tripped over her feet and bumped into the child in front of her.
03:49After the class, Emma told me how much she wanted to be a good ballet dancer.
03:55I practice at home. I practice all the time, she said.
04:00But I still can't get it right. I'm just clumsy.
04:04Then I had an idea.
04:06I took Emma to see Samantha the Swan.
04:09We watched her glide gracefully across the water.
04:13We saw how she held up her lovely long neck.
04:16And we smiled as she lifted up her wings and twirled round in the water.
04:21Samantha's like a ballet dancer, doing pirouettes, whispered Emma.
04:27Next time I go to ballet class, I'm going to dance like a swan.
04:32And that's just what she did.
04:35We watched her glide gracefully across the floor.
04:38We saw how she held up her lovely long neck.
04:41And we smiled as she lifted up her arms like wings and pirouetted round and round.
04:47And when she finished, everyone clapped and told Emma what a great dancer she was.
04:53She was so proud.
04:55Little cook to the rescue once again.
05:00That was a great adventure.
05:02Didn't Emma do well?
05:04She was much better at dancing like a swan than we were.
05:07Wahey!
05:09Don't worry, Ben.
05:10We'll have to practice our dancing later.
05:12Now we've got work to do.
05:14You're right, Small.
05:16We need to think of something to cook for Samantha.
05:18Hmm.
05:19Oh!
05:20I know!
05:21Big Cook's Big Cookery Book!
05:22Of course!
05:23The Big Cookery Book!
05:24There's recipes for everything in there!
05:25And where do we look for things to cook?
05:26In the book!
05:27In the book!
05:28In the book!
05:29In Big Cook's Book!
05:30Here we go!
05:31Swan Sorbet!
05:32A sorbet is a bit like ice cream.
05:33This looks great, Small.
05:34The perfect thing for Samantha the Swan.
05:35OK.
05:36You read out the ingredients, Little Cook, and I'll see if we've got them.
05:37OK.
05:38Let's see.
05:39We're going to need water.
05:40Water.
05:41Over we go.
05:42In the tap.
05:43Lots of that.
05:44Got it, Small.
05:45Sugar.
05:46Sugar.
05:47Sugar.
05:48Sugar.
05:49In the cupboard.
05:50Here we are.
05:51Sugar.
05:52Lemons.
05:53Oh, yes.
05:54Lovely lemons.
05:55Got them, Small.
05:56An apple.
05:57Apple.
05:58I like apples.
05:59Here we are.
06:00Grapes.
06:01Grapes.
06:02Over to the fridge.
06:03Here we go.
06:04Grapes.
06:05Grapes.
06:06Oh, yes.
06:07Lovely lemons.
06:08Got them, Small.
06:09An apple.
06:10Apple.
06:11I like apples.
06:12Here we are.
06:13Grapes.
06:14Grapes.
06:15And last of all, wafers for the swan's wings.
06:19Wafers.
06:20OK.
06:21Wafers.
06:22Here we are.
06:23Got the wafers, Small.
06:24Over we go.
06:26There.
06:27Everything we need for the recipe.
06:29Wafers taste great with ice cream.
06:31I've always wondered how they're made.
06:33Well, why don't you whizz off and find out, little cook, and I'll get everything ready.
06:37That's a great idea.
06:38See you later.
06:39Woo-hoo.
06:40Hey, why don't you come along, too?
06:44Woo-hoo.
06:45Woo-hoo.
06:46Woo-hoo.
06:47Go, Small.
06:48Go, Small.
06:49Go, Small.
06:50Whizz away.
06:51I wonder what he'll see today.
06:53This looks like the right place.
06:54To make wafers, all the ingredients have to be mixed together.
07:09In it goes.
07:10Whoosh.
07:11It needs to go through a sieve to take out all the lumps.
07:16The mixture is thick and gooey.
07:17Glug, glug, glug, glug, glug, glug, glug, glug, glug, glug, glug, glug, glug, glug.
07:23Now it's time to make the wafer.
07:24Squirt the mixture onto a hot griddle and squash it flat.
07:30Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho.
07:31Oh, they're all round and flat.
07:32Now they're being folded into wafers.
07:33Oh, they're all round and flat.
07:42Now they're being folded into wafers.
07:47Wow, I've never seen so many wafers.
08:05All the wafers have to be packed, ready to go to the shops.
08:16Yummy, yummy, they look tasty.
08:23I'd better get back to the cafe.
08:28Bye.
08:29Wahey!
08:30I'm back.
08:31Ho, ho, ho.
08:32Ben, what are you doing?
08:35Ho, ho, hello, Small.
08:36I'm just doing a spot more ballet practice.
08:38I'm sorry to say, Ben, but you don't look anything like a swan.
08:42Ho, ho, ho, ho.
08:43It's hard to dance like a swan to this music.
08:45It's too wiggly.
08:46Ho, ho, ho.
08:47So I'm dancing like a different animal.
08:48Can you guess what I am?
08:49Any ideas?
08:50Hey, are you a wiggly worm?
08:51I do look a bit like a worm, don't I?
08:52Ha, ha, ha.
08:53But no, I'm something a bit bigger than a worm.
08:54Oh, I know, I know.
08:55You're a slithery snake.
08:56That's right, Small.
08:57I'm a slithery snake.
08:58Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
08:59That's great, Ben.
09:00And it's too fun to dance like a swan to this music.
09:01It's too wiggly.
09:02Ho, ho, ho.
09:03So I'm dancing like a different animal.
09:04Can you guess what I am?
09:05Any ideas?
09:06Hey, are you a wiggly worm?
09:09Ha, ha, ha.
09:10I do look a bit like a worm, don't I?
09:11Ha, ha, ha.
09:12But no, I'm something a bit bigger than a worm.
09:15Oh.
09:16Oh, I know, I know.
09:17You're a slithery snake.
09:19That's right, Small.
09:20I'm a slithery snake.
09:22Ha, ha, ha, ha.
09:24That's great, Ben.
09:25And it's just the right music for being a snake.
09:28Hey, hey.
09:29How did you get on, Small?
09:31Oh, it was brilliant.
09:32I went to a wafer factory.
09:34Blobs and blobs of wafer mixture were flattened by a press.
09:39And then they were folded, ho, ho, ho, into a wafer shape.
09:43It was really interesting, Ben.
09:45Come on then, Small.
09:46Let's get to work.
09:47I've got everything we need for the swan sorbet.
09:50And we've got a very hungry swan in our cafe.
09:53So let's go.
09:54We're all ready.
09:55So take a look.
09:56And we will show you how to cook.
09:58Jelly boats and pirates go, princess pea pies.
10:02Carrot cakes and fruity smiles, and envelope surprise.
10:08We love our cafe, and we love to cook.
10:13We have a fantastic recipe book.
10:17He is big cook, and he is small.
10:23Friends in our cafe, we cook for them all.
10:27When your tummy gets all rumbly.
10:30You're ready for a treat.
10:32You can make something delicious to eat.
10:36Have you cleaned the surfaces?
10:44Yes.
10:45Have you washed your hands?
10:46Yes.
10:47All clean and ready to cook.
10:50Do you remember the ingredients to swan sorbet?
10:53You do.
10:54There was water.
10:55250 millilitres.
10:57Sugar.
10:58225 grams.
11:00Lemons.
11:01Six.
11:02An apple.
11:03One.
11:04Grapes.
11:05Six grapes.
11:06And last of all, wafers.
11:08Two.
11:09Whoopee!
11:10Let's get started.
11:12The first job is to zest the lemons.
11:15And that means rubbing it on the fine side of a grater till the skin comes off.
11:19Now this is quite a long job, so I started doing it while Small was away.
11:24I've just got this last one to do now.
11:27Great.
11:28There we are.
11:29What's next, Small?
11:30You have to cut the lemons in half.
11:32That's a grown-up helper's job.
11:34And then use a juicer to take out all the juice, and then put that and the lemon zest into a bowl.
11:41I've cut the lemons in half now, and I'm squeezing all the juice out like that.
11:48And pouring it into a bowl.
11:51And then we can add the lemon zest.
11:57In it goes.
12:00Now ask a grown-up helper to heat up the water and the sugar until it boils.
12:05The water's boiling, so we can add the sugar.
12:08In it goes.
12:11And then stir it until it's dissolved.
12:15When the liquid has boiled, leave it to cool.
12:20What should we do while it's cooling, Ben?
12:22Oh, I know.
12:23We could do some more ballet practice.
12:25I'll just take this off the heat.
12:27Yippee!
12:28Let's try that graceful swan dance again.
12:31Ooh!
12:32Okay.
12:33Here we go.
12:34This is no good, Ben.
12:35We can't be graceful gliding swans to this.
12:37Although, it is good for bouncing.
12:38Woohoo!
12:39Okay.
12:40So which animal should we be, then?
12:41Oh, I know.
12:42I know.
12:43Okay.
12:44I've got two big back legs and two little front legs.
12:51And I do bouncy things like this.
12:54Oh, I know, I know.
12:55OK, I've got two big back legs and two little front legs.
13:00And I do bouncy things like this.
13:03Boing, boing, boing.
13:06Ah-ha, I know what you are.
13:09Boing, boing, boing.
13:10Can you guess what animals we're being?
13:13We're kangaroos.
13:14Boing, boing, boing.
13:16I like dancing like this.
13:19I think we make better kangaroos than swans.
13:21Oh, swans, I've forgotten about Samantha.
13:25We'd better get back to work, Ben.
13:28You're right, Small.
13:29Right, now it's time to add the lemon juice and zest.
13:33Well, that's good because the water's cooled now.
13:35So, pour in the lemon juice and zest.
13:39In it goes.
13:41Quick stir.
13:43And what's next, Small?
13:45Pour the mixture into a freezer-proof container.
13:48OK.
13:49In we go.
13:54There.
13:56And freeze it for about 12 hours.
14:0012 hours?
14:02Normally you'd make this a day before you eat it.
14:04But we haven't got that long, so we're going to use the magic timer.
14:08Ho, ho, ho.
14:10OK, it's in the freezer.
14:12So now we can make the head and neck of the swan.
14:14Small, I'll do the neck and you do the head.
14:17Right.
14:18OK.
14:19So to make the long neck of the swan, you need to ask your grown-up helper to cut a thin slice out of the apple.
14:25And it needs to be wider at one end and pointy at the other.
14:33See?
14:34For the head, your grown-up helper needs to make a slit in the grape like this.
14:38Then, break a bit of the wafer off and stick it in the grape like that.
14:47And that's the swan's beak.
14:49Ho, that looks great, Small.
14:51Now I'll put the head onto the neck.
14:53So, I'm going to put the pointed end of the apple into the grape like that.
15:01There we are.
15:03Very swan-like.
15:05Ha, ha, ha.
15:09The sorbet's ready.
15:11Hee, hee.
15:11Magic.
15:12And make sure you get your grown-up helper to do this bit for you because the freezer is...
15:16...cold, cold, cold.
15:18Ho, ho, ho.
15:20OK.
15:21Spoon a big dollop of the sorbet onto a plate.
15:24OK.
15:25OK.
15:25One big dollop.
15:31Then, push two wafers in to make the wings.
15:34OK.
15:34Two wafers.
15:36One there.
15:38And one there, Ben.
15:40OK.
15:41Two graceful wings.
15:43Now stick in the apple and grape neck.
15:45OK.
15:47Our swan's neck and head there.
15:49And last, but certainly not least, put a few grapes on the plate near the swan.
15:54They'll look like little eggs.
15:56Right, you are small.
15:58Some little swan eggs coming up.
16:01And there we are.
16:02All done.
16:03Ho, ho, ho.
16:04Quick, Ben.
16:05Send it through before it starts to melt.
16:07Ha, ha, ha.
16:07OK.
16:09One swan sorbet coming through.
16:15Whoo.
16:15There.
16:16All finished.
16:17So what do we do now?
16:19Can we play?
16:20Not yet.
16:20Time to clean and put away.
16:22Hooray.
16:23Hooray.
16:24Wash, wipe, scrub and clean.
16:32Make the kitchen sparkle and gleam.
16:35My name's Ben.
16:39And my name's Small.
16:41We've got the cleanest kitchen of all.
16:45Tidy all the bits and bobs.
16:47The things that help us do our jobs.
16:49Ingredients well put away.
16:51Ready for use another day.
16:53Pots and pans will start to smell.
16:54If we don't wash them really well.
16:56And now it's clear.
16:57Let's all smile.
16:58We'll be finished in a little while.
17:00All around.
17:02Up and down.
17:03We've got the cleanest cafe in town.
17:06We'll be finished in a little while.
17:14We'll be finished in a little while.
17:16We'll be finished in a little while.
17:16Aha.
17:16Here comes the plates.
17:18Oh, yes, Small.
17:19It looks like Samantha the Swan enjoyed her swan sorbet.
17:23And look, she's left a note.
17:25Well, what does it say?
17:26What does it say?
17:27Let's see, shall we?
17:29It says, Dear Big Cook Ben and Little Cook Small,
17:32thank you for my beautiful sorbet.
17:34And I hope you enjoy the ballet tonight.
17:36Hooray.
17:36And as you love dancing so much,
17:39why not give these a try from Samantha the Swan?
17:42Give us a try, Ben.
17:45Small tap shoes.
17:47Hey.
17:48There's a pair for me.
17:51And there's a pair for you.
17:53Hey.
17:54Here, Small.
17:55Give yours a try.
17:57Thanks, Ben.
17:59These are really special dancing shoes
18:01because they've got metal bits on the bottoms.
18:04And they make a great sound like this.
18:14Ho, ho.
18:15These are the shoes for us, Small.
18:17We may not be cut out for the ballet,
18:19but we can still be dancers
18:20and we can make as much noise as we like.
18:23Ready, Small?
18:24Wahey.
18:26Whoa.
18:27See you soon.
18:33See you soon.
18:34Woo-hoo.
