00:00Big Cook, Little Cook
00:30One, two, three, four. Oh no! You've landed on a snake, Big Cook, Ben. Down you go. Oh no. Right back to the beginning. I'll never catch up now. Hello everyone.
00:51Hello everyone. Welcome to our cafe. The best cafe in the world. We're just playing snakes and ladders. Have you played before?
01:01What you do is you roll the dice. Go on Ben, show them. Then you move your counter the same amount of spaces as the dice shows.
01:11What does it say, Ben?
01:12It says three. So, one, two, three. Oh looky, you've landed on a ladder. And if you land on a ladder, whoop, you go right to the top. Wahey!
01:25Okay, my turn to roll this time. Here we go.
01:28Mine for the snakes.
01:30Small, did you see where the dice went?
01:32I think it went on the floor somewhere. We can't play the game if we don't have a dice, Ben.
01:38Oh, I can't find it.
01:42Oh, come on Small. Sounds like we've got a customer.
01:45I'll see who it is. You keep on looking.
01:47Woohoo!
01:49I'm on my way.
01:51Wahey!
02:01Who's in the cafe today, Small?
02:04He likes to play our game, Ben.
02:06Oh, good. Has he got dice we could play with?
02:10No, but he slithers and slides and hisses.
02:15Do you know?
02:16Oh, I think I've guessed who it is.
02:19Have you?
02:20Is it a snake? A hissing snake?
02:24Yes, Ben. It's Sylvester, the snake.
02:28But what would a snake like to eat?
02:31I think it's time to look in my book.
02:33We need a story to help us cook.
02:45Let's take a look in Little Cook's book.
02:49Little Cook's adventures in the big world.
02:52Let me see.
02:53Sylvester, the snake, wanted to be a pop star.
02:58So he and his friends formed a band called Ouch.
03:02Sylvester said that he would like to be the singer.
03:05Barry, the beetle, was on the guitar.
03:07Sarah, the scorpion, was on the drums.
03:10And I was invited to play the keyboard.
03:13We'd been asked to play at the local dance,
03:15so we needed to practice.
03:16Barry strung the chords on his guitar.
03:21Sarah banged out the beat on the drums.
03:24And I played the tune on the keyboard.
03:26But as soon as Sylvester opened his mouth to sing...
03:29What a noise!
03:35We all had to cover our ears.
03:38Sylvester was terrible at singing.
03:41But maybe Sylvester could try playing the trumpet.
03:45So Barry strummed the chords.
03:48Sarah banged out the beat.
03:49And I played the tune.
03:52Sylvester blew the trumpet.
03:53What a noise!
03:58Sylvester was terrible at playing the trumpet.
04:02Maybe he should try playing the violin.
04:05So, Barry strummed the chords.
04:08Sarah banged out the beat.
04:10And I played the tune.
04:13Sylvester played the violin.
04:18What a noise!
04:20He was terrible at playing the violin.
04:22Poor Sylvester.
04:25He so wanted to be in the band.
04:27But he couldn't sing.
04:29He couldn't play the trumpet.
04:31And he couldn't play the violin.
04:33What could he do?
04:36I know!
04:37I said.
04:38Why don't you be a dancer and dance in time with the music?
04:43Sylvester loved dancing.
04:45And gave it a go.
04:47So Barry strummed the chords.
04:49Sarah banged out the beat.
04:51And I played the tune.
04:53And Sylvester lifted his tail and danced.
04:56Of course!
04:57Sylvester was a rattlesnake.
04:59And every time he shook his tail to dance,
05:02it gave a rattle rattle.
05:04In time with the music.
05:06Everyone at the local dance loves Sylvester and his rattle rattle.
05:11Little cook to the rescue once again.
05:15That was a great adventure.
05:17Oh, what a brilliant story, Small.
05:21And Sylvester found the perfect instrument.
05:24Whee-hey!
05:26Ben!
05:27Ben!
05:28Have you found a rattlesnake?
05:31Nope.
05:32And I haven't found the other dice either.
05:34But I have found...
05:35A tub of pasta that rattles.
05:37Listen!
05:38Hey, that's just like Sylvester's tail.
05:42Hey-hey!
05:43Oh, that reminds me.
05:45What can we cook for Sylvester the snake?
05:49Hmm.
05:52Oh!
05:53Ah!
05:57I know!
05:59Big Cook's Big Cookery book!
06:01Of course!
06:02The Big Cookery book!
06:03There's recipes for everything in there.
06:05And where do we look for things to cook?
06:08In the book!
06:09In the book!
06:10In Big Cook's book!
06:12Here we are.
06:13Just the thing for a hungry hissing snake.
06:16Snakey pasta.
06:18Fantastic!
06:20Come on then, little cook.
06:21You read out the ingredients and I'll see if we've got them.
06:23OK, let's see.
06:25We're going to need basil.
06:26OK, basil over on the windowsill.
06:29Here we are.
06:30Smells lovely.
06:30Got the basil.
06:31Pine kernels.
06:32Pine kernels in the cupboard.
06:34Yep, got those small.
06:36Olive oil.
06:37In the cupboard as well.
06:39Olive oil.
06:39Here it is.
06:41Olives.
06:42Ooh, lovely olives.
06:43I love them.
06:44Yep.
06:44Pasta.
06:46That's in the tub.
06:47Got it.
06:48Parmesan.
06:49OK, over to the fridge.
06:51Parmesan.
06:52Here we go.
06:53A nice big block of parmesan.
06:54Yep.
06:55Garlic.
06:56Garlic.
06:57That's in here.
06:58Got the garlic.
06:59Yep.
07:00And carrot for decoration.
07:01Ooh, a lovely orange carrot.
07:03Yep, got that too.
07:05Here we go, small.
07:07Everything we need for the recipe.
07:09There's just one thing, though, small.
07:11There doesn't seem to be enough pasta here for a hungry hissing snake.
07:15Why don't you whiz off and get some, and I'll get everything ready.
07:18That's a great idea.
07:20See you later.
07:22Hoo, hoo, hoo.
07:22Hey, why don't you come along, too?
07:27Whee!
07:32Ghost, small, ghost, small, whiz away!
07:35I wonder what he'll see today.
07:37I've come to the right place.
07:50This man is going to mix together the ingredients to make pasta.
07:56That's called semolina.
08:02There's lots of it.
08:03Next is the water.
08:11And last of all, the eggs.
08:17It all has to be mixed together.
08:19Mixy, mixy, mixy!
08:20Ha, ha, ha!
08:26The ingredients have all been mixed together,
08:28and now it is ready to be made into pasta shapes.
08:31What shape do you think it will be?
08:36Here it comes!
08:38Which shape is it?
08:40Let's take a closer look.
08:44Hee-hee!
08:44It's pasta spirals!
08:48Off they go!
08:51Let's follow them.
08:52The pasta is being weighed, ready for packing.
09:05Here come the bags of pasta.
09:07It's time for them to go to the shops.
09:11I'd better get this pasta back to the cafe.
09:14See you later!
09:15I still can't find the dice.
09:24Can you see it anywhere?
09:27No.
09:29Wahey!
09:30I'm back!
09:32Hello there, Small.
09:33Did you bring back some more pasta?
09:34I certainly did.
09:36I went to a factory where it was made,
09:38and the pasta spirals were called Fusilli.
09:41Ho, ho, ho!
09:42Woo!
09:44Wow!
09:45That's fantastic, Small.
09:47Hey!
09:48We're all ready, so take a look,
09:50and we will show you how to cook.
09:52The jelly boats and pirates go
09:58Princess Pee Pies,
10:00carrot cakes and fruity smiles,
10:02and envelopes surprise.
10:04We love our cafe, and we love to cook.
10:07We have a fantastic recipe book.
10:13He is big cook, and he is small.
10:17Friends in our cafe, we cook for them all.
10:21When your tummy gets all rumbly,
10:25you're ready for a treat.
10:27You can make something delicious to eat.
10:36Have you cleaned the surfaces?
10:38Yes.
10:39Have you washed your hands?
10:40Yes.
10:41All clean and ready to cook.
10:44Do you remember the ingredients to snakey pasta?
10:48You do?
10:49There was basil,
10:51one large plant,
10:52the leaves cut into small pieces,
10:54pine kernels,
10:5625 grams,
10:57olive oil,
10:58100 millilitres,
10:59olives,
11:00two,
11:01pasta,
11:02one cupful,
11:03parmesan,
11:0450 grams,
11:05garlic,
11:06one clove,
11:07and for decoration,
11:08carrot,
11:09one long strip.
11:11Whoopee!
11:11Let's get started!
11:13Okay, I'm going to start by pounding the garlic and the pine kernels together in a pestle and mortar.
11:23Now, you could always use a wooden spoon and a dish for this bit,
11:27and ask your grown-up helper if you're okay to have pine kernels.
11:32If not, you could always make a different kind of sauce, like tomato.
11:35What shall I do, big cook?
11:39Oh, well, you could do a very, very important job, small.
11:41What's that?
11:43Search for the missing dice.
11:44We can't carry on with our game of snakes and ladders without it.
11:47Righty-ho!
11:48I'll go searching!
11:49I'm making a pesto sauce to go over the pasta snake.
11:56It'll make a nice green stripe.
11:58So once you've started on the garlic,
12:01you can add the basil,
12:06and keep working it in until it makes a paste.
12:15Ah!
12:16Have you found the dice, little cook?
12:20I think so.
12:21Look!
12:23That's not a dice, small.
12:25It's a bottle top.
12:26Well, it's the same colour as the dice.
12:29Keep searching.
12:30Okay, Ben.
12:32Now, once we've made a paste with the garlic and basil,
12:36we can start to work in the parmesan cheese.
12:39Oh, I love it.
12:40Yummy!
12:41Yummy!
12:46Oh, no!
12:51It wasn't in the flour tub.
12:53Oh, be careful, small.
12:56Hee-hee-hee!
12:57I'll just go and get myself cleaned up.
12:59Oh, dear.
13:02Poor small.
13:04Right, once you've worked in the cheese,
13:06it's time to add the olive oil.
13:08Now, you need to do this gradually.
13:13The mixture needs to be fairly runny.
13:16And a little more.
13:29Keep mixing it in.
13:35Right, that's done.
13:36Time to cook the pasta spirals.
13:39Ah-ha!
13:40Ho-ho-ho!
13:41Hooray!
13:41Have you found the dice, little cook?
13:43Yes, look, look, over there.
13:45Little cook saves the day.
13:48Ha-ha-ha!
13:49Small!
13:50This isn't a dice.
13:52It's a button.
13:53Well, it looks the same colour as the dice.
13:56I'll keep searching.
13:57Ho-ho-ho!
13:59And I'll cook the pasta small.
14:01So, the next thing we need to do
14:03is put a pan of water onto boil.
14:05And this is a job for your grown-up helper to do
14:07because it's a hob job
14:08and the hob is hot, hot, hot.
14:10Right, OK.
14:13Now, I'm also going to pop in some olive oil.
14:17Like that.
14:18Just a drop.
14:19And this will stop our pasta sticking together.
14:23So, once it's boiling,
14:25your grown-up helper can then add the pasta.
14:28It needs to cook for ten minutes.
14:33No longer.
14:34Otherwise, it'll go all slimy.
14:38I'll set the timer.
14:40Ho-ho-ho-ho!
14:41The dice!
14:43Oh, it was by the timer all along.
14:46Ho-ho!
14:47It's not the dice, Small.
14:49It's one of your coloured bricks.
14:50Ho-ho-ho!
14:51Oh, never mind.
14:52Well, I'm still going to set the timer
14:54for ten minutes.
15:03When the pasta's cooked,
15:05ask your grown-up helper
15:06to drain off the water
15:07using a colander, like this.
15:10And then,
15:11we can get ready
15:12to make our snakey pasta shape.
15:15Oh, can I watch?
15:17If you like, Small.
15:18Great!
15:19This is the really fun part.
15:21When it's cooled,
15:23pour the pasta onto a plate.
15:27Like this.
15:29And then,
15:29you can start to make
15:30your snakey shape.
15:34Those pasta spirals
15:35look like a snake!
15:36Ho-ho-ho!
15:43Once you've made
15:44your snakey shape,
15:46place the pesto
15:47along its back,
15:49like this
15:51to make a lovely
15:54green stripe.
15:57Brilliant!
15:59Then,
16:00we can add
16:01two olive eyes,
16:04one there,
16:05one there,
16:06and
16:08a
16:09carrot-y tongue.
16:12And our
16:13snakey pasta
16:14is finished!
16:15That looks
16:16brilliant!
16:16I'm sure
16:17Sylvester the snake
16:18will think
16:19it's delicious!
16:21Here we go then!
16:22One snakey pasta
16:24coming through!
16:29There!
16:30All done!
16:31So what do we do now?
16:33Can we play?
16:34Not yet!
