07:40It turns out the guy he punched out was the camp champion in the Marines.
07:44And immediately Weaver was recruited for the boxing team.
07:46The rest is history.

07:50Holmes is risking a $3 million purse here, Don.

07:54For no money at all, he has signed up to fight Shavers in the ball.

11:16And, uh, I think a lot of that is in credit to Ray Barnes, his trainer.

11:26You know, this is an opportunity of a lifetime for a young man.
11:29And, uh...
11:30He's going to make the most of it.
11:31It looks like he's got himself keyed up, you know, to go out on his cross.
11:36He's going to give whatever he has to give.
11:38Larry, when you figure the number of fighters there have been since the days of, you pardon the expression, the days of Jim Figg.
11:46And a small number who actually have fought for the heavyweight championship.
11:50Uh, Weaver is, you know, he's honored.
11:52Well, you know, right now, of all the people in the world, there's only one that has a chance to take the title away from the champion.
11:59And he's sitting right here.

12:26You know, from Holmes' point of view, I don't think he can give a chance for this fighter to build up his confidence.

12:34Now Weaver is going to jab the one-two.

12:41I think that speaks to what I was just saying.
12:44All of a sudden, he thinks he can fight this guy.
12:46He may be wrong, but he thinks he can.

15:16And I think he's trying to assert himself here before the other guy gets too many ideas and gets too brave and fights beyond his capabilities.
15:29And we have to remember to take a look at a rerun here.
15:32There's a left hand high on the head of Weaver, which probably was the best punch of the fight so far for Holmes.
15:39But Weaver stays right with him and comes back and grazes him with a right hand.

15:44That didn't have a lot of power because Holmes was moving backwards.
15:51But I think Holmes is getting a little angry.
15:54He's making about three cents around here.
15:56And once we get out, he's done better at other times.

16:58Holmes is hitting him at best shots, and Weaver keeps coming in.
17:02Not only that, Holmes will outweighs him 13 pounds, and Weaver is forcing the issue.

17:11Larry has been complaining about this low hitting.
17:14And I think he just doesn't like getting hit in the thread basket.

19:45and not catching their full power, which enabled him to come back late.
19:50They've thrown an awful lot of water on the champion.
19:52Yeah, he's got to revive him.
19:55That was a big round for Weaver.
19:57I want to say, you know, that Weaver has been knocked out,
20:00not by one Bobbick, but by two Bobbicks.
20:04I think one was a decision, Larry.

24:10It's not turning out that way.

24:14He just landed a good ride at the beginning of the round.
