00:00Big cook, little cook, welcome to our cafe. Big cook, little cook, want you to come and play.
00:17Meeting all the friends we cook for, sharing stories, trips and fun. Big cook, little cook, we'll cook for everyone.
00:30Hey, what's going on? Surrounded by funny creatures. Aliens, small, small, there's aliens.
00:54Oh, gibbily fish cake, nicky-nicky. Who are you? What have you done with small?
01:02I am small, fooled you. Hey, I got dressed up as an alien whilst you were sleeping and I put up all these alien balloons.
01:13I didn't mean to scare you. Well, you did. I really thought I'd gone to sleep and woken up on another planet.
01:20Oh, come on, small. We've got a customer. I'll just take these off. There we go.
01:31OK. I'm on my way. Woo-hoo!
01:39Who's our customer today, small?
01:46Wow! It's an astronaut!
01:52Er, er, what's an astronaut?
01:55An astronaut is somebody who flies into space.
01:58Wow! Well, what would we cook for somebody who flies into space?
02:02Well, our cafe's the best cafe in the, in the universe.
02:07In the universe. So what would be a real treat for an astronaut? I think it's time to look in my book.
02:23We need a story to help us cook. Let's take a look in Little Cook's book.
02:29Little Cook's adventures in the big world. Let me see.
02:36It was a really windy day. So windy, in fact, I got blown right off the ground.
02:43Soon I was higher than mountains, even higher than clouds. So high, I went right off into space.
02:51I kept going and going and soon I passed them astronauts in a spaceship.
02:57Did they get a big surprise seeing me whoosh past like that?
03:01But I kept on going and going past the moon and the stars.
03:08And it was when I was right out in the middle of nowhere that I bumped into another astronaut.
03:13Poor thing. He was lost in space, just floating. He didn't know how he was going to get home.
03:20He couldn't catch a bus, or a train, or a taxi, because there aren't any in space.
03:27The only way to get home is by spaceship. The trouble is, he drifted away from his spaceship.
03:33His friends were looking for him, but space is so big they couldn't find him anywhere.
03:39But I did. Astronauts moved to the rescue. And the way I rescued him was really clever.
03:46I just happened to have my trusty icer with me, the thing that does the icing on cakes.
03:51The astronaut and I were drifting apart quite quickly. I started icing as fast as I could.
03:57And soon, I'd iced a great big arrow pointing straight to him.
04:01Well, once I'd done that, it wasn't long before his chums in the spaceship spotted the arrow and came along to rescue him.
04:08And the good thing is, they all had plenty of icing for tea as well.
04:13Little cook to the rescue once again!
04:17That was a great adventure. But what about you, Small? How did you get home?
04:22Oh, that was easy, Ben. I just turned around my icer like this, and used it as a rocket squirting myself back to Earth.
04:30Ooh!
04:33Mm-hmm! Very nice, Small.
04:36And a great story, too. But does it help us think of something we can make for our astronaut?
04:41Hmm. Let's see. In space, there's spaceships and moons and planets and stars.
04:49Hmm.
04:53Ooh! We're...
04:55I know! Big Cook's Big Cookery Book!
05:01Of course! The Big Cookery Book! There's recipes for everything in there!
05:05And where do we look for things to cook?
05:07In the book! In the book! In Big Cook's Book!
05:10Well, well, look at this! Moon rocks! Perfect! With marzipan spaceships! Sounds great! What do we need?
05:20You read out the ingredients, Little Cook, and I'll see if we've got them.
05:23OK. Let's see. We're going to need flour. Flour. OK. Oh, yes. Flour. Got that.
05:29Not that sort of flour! Plain flour for cooking!
05:33Oops! Sorry!
05:35Plain flour. Yep. Got that.
05:38Then we're going to need caster sugar.
05:40Caster sugar. Got that, too.
05:43Butter. Butter in the fridge. OK. Butter. Yes, butter.
05:47Butter. Yes, butter. One egg. One egg. There we go. One egg.
05:52A few raisins. Raisins. OK. Ooh, raisins. Got those.
05:58Food colouring, if you like. OK. Food colouring as well. There we go.
06:03And last, but not least, marzipan. Ooh, marzipan. There it is. It's yummy.
06:11Funny stuff, isn't it, marzipan? It's not a meat, it's not a vegetable, and it doesn't grow out of the ground. What is it?
06:20Why don't you zoom off and find out, Little Cook, and I'll get everything ready.
06:24Good idea, Ben. I'll see you later.
06:30Hey, why don't you come along, too?
06:32Whoosh! Woo-hoo!
06:38Go, Small! Go, Small! Whiz away!
06:41I wonder what he'll see today.
06:43Whoa, that was a bumpy journey.
07:03Oh, look at all those nuts. They're almonds.
07:07They grow on trees in hot countries.
07:09Wow, look at all the almonds.
07:20Oh, can you notice anything different about them?
07:24They've had their skins taken off.
07:27They're all white now.
07:36The almonds have been crushed.
07:38They don't look like nuts anymore.
07:40They've turned into a gooey almond paste.
07:48And now all the gooeyness has to be cooked.
07:53Green for go!
07:55Up it goes.
08:01In it goes.
08:02It has to be cooked for a long time.
08:03Oh, this is taking a long time.
08:17Oh, hooray! It's cooked!
08:20It's been turned into marzipan.
08:21Marzipan!
08:26All the big lumps of marzipan are flattened into long, thin sheets.
08:30Oh, look!
08:31The marzipan has been cut into a shape.
08:32What shape is it?
08:33Oh, look! The marzipan has been cut into a shape.
08:34What shape is it?
08:35It's a circle.
08:36Marzipan can be used to decorate cakes.
08:37This lady is making a beautiful flower.
08:38It's a circle.
08:39Marzipan can be used to decorate cakes.
08:40This lady is making a beautiful flower.
08:41Oh, look!
08:42It's a circle.
08:43Marzipan can be used to decorate cakes.
08:44This lady is making a beautiful flower.
08:45Oh, look!
08:46Oh, look!
08:47The marzipan has been cut into a shape.
08:48Oh, look!
08:49The marzipan has been cut into a shape.
08:50What shape is it?
08:51It's a circle.
08:54It's a circle.
08:59Marzipan can be used to decorate cakes.
09:02This lady is making a beautiful flower.
09:04Oh, is this flower for me?
09:17Well, thank you.
09:19I'm back!
09:39I'm back, Ben!
09:41Oh, it was brilliant!
09:43Ben?
09:44Ben!
09:45Oh, crumpets!
09:47All right, Small.
09:50Have a good trip, did you?
09:51Were you sleeping?
09:53Me, yes.
09:54No, no, no.
09:55I was just...
09:56Of course not.
09:57I was just checking that the work surface was nice and clean.
10:00You know, can't cook unless everything's spotless, can you?
10:03Oh, Ben, it was brilliant!
10:05I saw how marzipan is made.
10:07It comes from these nuts called almonds,
10:09and they get all mushed up.
10:11Everything ready?
10:12Oh, yes.
10:13All measured out and ready to cook.
10:15We're all ready, so take a look, and we will show you how to cook.
10:19The jelly boats and pirates go princess pea pies,
10:26carrot cakes and fruity smiles,
10:28and envelopes surprise.
10:30We love our cafe, and we love to cook.
10:34We have a fantastic recipe book.
10:37He is big cook, and he is small.
10:43Friends in our cafe, we cook for them all.
10:47When your tummy gets all rumbly, you're ready for a treat.
10:53You can make something delicious to eat.
10:56Have you cleaned the surfaces?
11:04Yes.
11:05Have you washed your hands?
11:06Yes.
11:07All clean and ready to cook.
11:09Do you remember the ingredients to moon rock cakes?
11:13There was plain flour.
11:16250 grams.
11:17Caster sugar.
11:18100 grams.
11:19Butter.
11:20100 grams.
11:22Egg.
11:23One egg.
11:24Raisins.
11:25A few.
11:26Food colouring.
11:28Any colour you like.
11:29And last but not least, marzipan.
11:32For the decorations.
11:34Whoopee!
11:35Let's get started.
11:37OK.
11:38Mix the flour and the butter together in the same bowl.
11:48My hands are nice and clean, which is very important for this.
11:52There.
11:53Rub the mixture in between your fingers and thumbs until it gets all sticky and crumbly.
12:01Now, this could take some time.
12:04So, while I'm doing this, Small, would you be so kind as to beat up an egg for me?
12:09What does that mean, Ben?
12:12It means whizz it all up together.
12:15OK.
12:16One egg beaten up, coming up.
12:18Excellent.
12:19Keep on rubbing the mixture.
12:21There.
12:22It's getting all crumbly now.
12:24I'm going to use a straw to break the egg.
12:27Time to add the sugar and the raisins.
12:41And mix them all up together.
12:46Come on, Small.
12:47You can do it.
12:52Small, you're supposed to crack the egg first.
12:54What do you think I'm trying to do, Ben?
12:57Let me.
13:05There.
13:06Can you beat it now?
13:07I'll need it in a minute.
13:08One egg beaten up, coming up.
13:11Here we go.
13:12Yee-haw!
13:13Whoop-dee-doo!
13:14Round and round it goes.
13:16Round and round it goes!
13:17Come on, as far as you can!
13:18I think that egg's beaten up quite enough, Small.
13:22Oh, I was just getting into that.
13:37Oops.
13:38Sorry, Ben.
13:39Sorry, Ben. You'd better go and get cleaned up. I'll finish this.
13:47Right, thank you, Small.
13:50Now let's add this egg to the rest of our mixture.
13:53There we go.
13:58And let's give it a good stir.
14:00Let's mix it all in there.
14:02Get all the egg in.
14:04Oh, that's nice.
14:07Great.
14:09Now I'm going to add some food colouring, but you can always make it without.
14:13So I'm going to put about five drops in.
14:16One, two, three, four, five.
14:23And give it one more good mix-up.
14:29I'm on the moon!
14:34Then we're going to make the mixture into little balls.
14:37Just like that.
14:40There we are.
14:42And then pop them on a baking tray.
14:48That's done.
14:49Oh, they look tip-top.
14:51Now, in the oven they go, which I've preheated to 200 degrees Celsius, gas mark six.
14:59And make sure you get your grown-up helper to put these in for you, because the oven is hot, hot, hot.
15:04I've even got to wear these special gloves.
15:08They look like space gloves.
15:10Oh, yeah.
15:13In they go for 15 minutes, and then they're all done.
15:16I'll set the timer.
15:17There we go.
15:18And now, for the marzipan decoration.
15:28All I've got to do is roll it into a ball.
15:31Oh, there.
15:43Here we are.
15:45I've made spaceships in lots of different shapes.
15:48And I've added a few raisins for portholes.
15:51There we go.
15:52The moon rocks, small.
15:57The moon rocks.
15:59Here we go.
16:01There we are.
16:03Oh, they look lovely.
16:06There we go.
16:07Nice and gentle.
16:09Out they come.
16:11Pop them down.
16:13Now, we need to leave them to cool for a little while, small.
16:15So, while we wait, let's rearrange the spaceships on the plate.
16:19I bet our astronaut's really hungry now.
16:23Aye, Bessie is.
16:24There we go.
16:25Nice and cool now.
16:27Pop it on.
16:28They look yummy.
16:30Oh, moon rocks and spaceships coming through.
16:38All done.
16:39And off it goes.
16:41Whoosh.
16:43So, what do we do now?
16:45Can we play?
16:46Not yet, small.
16:47Time to clean up and put away.
16:49Hooray!
16:56Wash, wipe, scrub and clean.
16:59Make the kitchen sparkle and gleam.
17:04My name's Ben.
17:06And my name's Paul.
17:07We've got the cleanest kitchen of all.
17:11Tidy all the bits and bobs.
17:13The things that help us do our job.
17:15Ingredients we'll put away.
17:17Ready for use another day.
17:19Pots and pans will start to smell.
17:21If we don't wash them really well.
17:23And now it's clear.
17:24Let's all smile.
17:25We'll be finished in a little while.
17:26All around.
17:28Up and down.
17:29We've got the cleanest cafe in town.
17:33A lovely clean plate.
17:41But what's that?
17:44Let's see, shall we?
17:46It looks like our astronaut's enjoyed his moon rocks and spaceships.
17:51And he's left us a note.
17:53What does it say?
17:54What does it say?
17:55Let's see.
17:57It says, dear big cook Ben and little cook small, the best moon rocks I've ever tasted.
18:04Hooray!
18:05Here's a real one as a souvenir.
18:08Here's a real moon rock.
18:09Here.
18:10Wow.
18:11Wow.
18:12That's a real moon rock.
18:13Oh, yeah.
18:14Whoa.
18:15Whoa.
18:16Whoa.
18:17Whoa.
18:18Whoa.
18:19And off he goes in his spaceship back to the moon.
18:21Yeah.
18:22A happy customer with a nice full tummy.
18:24Whoa.
18:25See you soon.
18:26See you soon.
18:27I'm on the moon.
18:28I'm on the moon.
18:29I'm on the moon.
18:36Big cook, little cook.
18:38Welcome to our cafe.
18:43Big cook, little cook.
18:45We'll cook for everyone.
18:49We'll cook for everyone.
