00:00I want to say
00:30we have done something that no one has ever done we have performed for over 10 million people in person that's not like oh 10 million people watched a TV show which is pretty amazing too we performed for 10 million plus people and I think about every single one of you as little kids I think about the moment that you
00:59decided that dancing was your calling and the moment that you first saw a band and thought man I want to I want to save up for an instrument every single one of us has picked professions that
01:13categorically people for the majority of the time they tell you you shouldn't do it they tell you you should not try to do this you have to love the thing so much that you override 85 to 95 percent of the advice you are given along the way
01:31by oftentimes people that you respect people you trust people in the field everyone in dance everyone in music will tell everyone younger if there's anything else you can do
01:42do that
01:44and so I'll see you
01:48getting rejected not getting the job not getting the part not getting the solo
01:53yeah I'll see all of those things that happened all along the way the doors that were shut the doors that were open the windows you pried open
02:03and then sometimes I'll see you when you're older I don't think about what
02:08what you're gonna tell your family or the people that you mentor because every single person in here
02:14has the spirit to mentor others and to tell them yes do it try it go for it
02:21if you have that same love for it and I think about whether that's to your grandchildren
02:26or to the little neighbor kid that just wants to talk to you about what that was like
02:34everyone likes to talk about phenomenons like the heiress tour almost as if it was pieces falling
02:40into place in some sort of accidental confluence of events that just happened right
02:45I when I'm thinking about the people that are in this circle I don't think about it as pieces
02:52that fell into place I think of each of you as like tectonic plates on the earth
02:57that took millions of of micro decisions and forces of you pushing and pushing inch by inch closer
03:09together and the heiress tour wasn't when all the pieces fell into place that was just when every
03:15single one of us had done so much work to where this tour was just when we all clicked together
03:23it is our job to make this look accidental and it is our job to make this look effortless
03:30but I just want every single one of you to know that I in no way shape or form
03:34look at this as the pieces just falling into place you put the pieces where they are
03:38this is the biggest challenge any of us have ever done tonight we complete that challenge
04:08I think I came up with the idea for the heiress tour about two years before the tour started
04:15there were two main factors that culminated in the heiress tour both of them were unpleasant
04:22we think that these bad things are happening to me or to us if you flip it around correctly and you
04:29react in a certain way those things can be happening for you
04:33the first one being my entire catalog of my first six albums was sold out from under me to somebody
04:43else and i decided to sort of defiantly re-record all of my music you know when you revisit something
04:53you go back into that world all this work is so indicative of the time i was in in my life i feel
04:59like i'm reading my old diaries thinking about all the different girls i was until i was this one
05:05so that planted a little seed inherently in my mind the idea of celebrating your past
05:11i think the second factor being the pandemic we've built a home studio in my house i clung to
05:18songwriting as a sort of life raft stop it stop stop i'm recording vocals folklore came out three or
05:26four months into the pandemic we put out evermore four months later i hadn't toured in five years and
05:32the fans had created such demand for it i've been loving taylor sub since i was 11 years old is she
05:39ever gonna go on tour again and i just thought to myself what if i did a tour that celebrated all of
05:46these different moments in my life and career where you have chapters divided up by albums and
05:53everything changes when the chapter changes she had said to us this is going to be over three hours
06:00and we were just like oh my god how do we do this not just planning but executing a tour of this size
06:08is mind-boggling the process of putting together this tour happened in many different phases all over
06:17the world happening simultaneously all at once you had me doing my physical training six months before
06:23we even go into rehearsals at this time the choreographers goes in with the dancers we've
06:27got the staging and the production design happening simultaneously all to coincide with the same start
06:32date the first day of rehearsal she got out of her car and had tears in her eyes already i'm weirdly
06:39emotional right now it's so nice to meet you i'm taylor hey i mean i've been doing this for almost 20
06:48years a bunch of different artists i have never seen that i have never seen the boss come into
06:53rehearsal crying with tears of happiness and passion about their job we haven't done what we love on a
07:01stage in five years let's go do this the fans have been so amazing and are so excited for the tour
07:08i wanted to over serve the fans that was my main goal i wanted to over serve them in terms
07:14of the amount of songs they were going to hear the length of the show what kinds of production they
07:19were going to see different styles of dance different worlds of dance wardrobe how far i was going
07:26to push myself oh my god okay look my friend here we go when you come up with a goal like that
07:33you just have to make a choice and decide there's no going back on that choice
07:46good morning america it's taylor i wanted to tell you something that i've been so excited about
07:51for a really long time i've been planning for ages and i finally get to tell you
07:56i'm going back on tour oh my god we're doing something very stressful today today is era's
08:03pre-seal day 192. we got row five oh my god
08:14i think i thought fans would be excited about the idea of the eras tour this is not real yes it is
08:35yes really this was a completely different thing that i've ever experienced fans of taylor swift
08:41crashed the ticketmaster website today the demand to see taylor at that point i don't think anybody
08:48in the industry expert or otherwise would comprehend there was enough demand to do 255 stadiums i'm
08:58actually not in glendale i'm in swift city officials actually changed the name from glendale to swift
09:05city in honor of the mega star kicking off her tour so we go from uh detail-oriented methodical exhaustive
09:13process and all of a sudden in the last week leading up to the first show everybody is firing on all
09:19cylinders and then we had opening night i'm about to say something to you that i've been just thinking
09:28about for years you know welcome to the heiress tour truly everyone will tell you that none of us knew
09:37what the heiress tour was becoming kansas city welcome to the heiress tour she's a once in a
09:44generation type of artist i would almost compare it to the beatles when people start comparing this to
09:48like the beatles and mj you just you just don't expect that what you're getting into is going to be
09:53that yeah seattle washington welcome to the heiress tour yeah her shows the crowd is kind of always
10:03at bananas level and this is a whole nother gear you know or two all the swifties started jumping
10:10around during the song they caused the equivalent of a 2.3 magnitude earthquake los angeles california
10:17taylor swift she's more than just a pop icon she's a business powerhouse swift's u.s tour could
10:25generate 4.6 billion dollars in consumer spending that's more than the gdps of granada belize and
10:31tonga combined something experts have dubbed swiftnomics the taylor swift takeover seen across
10:38the country leading to the emergence of taylorgating even fans without tickets are traveling to tour stops
10:44i've never seen this before in my life this is like one of the most beautiful things i've ever seen
10:50it's like woodstock but without the drugs the thing that's so special it is that community where they
10:57get into that stadium and celebrate not just what's happening on that stage but what's happening with them
11:04and how they honor each other and love each other it just became this movement
11:25i thought that this would be a tour i was very proud of this is like more than a tour it's like a force to
11:32be reckoned with in global culture so never in my life did i think we would have a terrorist plot
11:44we are continuing to follow breaking news three upcoming taylor swift concerts in vienna austria have
11:50been cancelled after austrian authorities arrested two suspects who they say had plans to carry out a
11:56terrorist attack at the concert site according to officials they found chemical explosives detonators
12:03and isis propaganda at the main suspect's home now the big question is what's going to happen to the
12:08rest of her european tour well at this point all of her shows are going ahead as scheduled including
12:14a concert right here in london we're in london at my hotel and um basically it's just kind of a weird
12:30feeling going into these last five shows in europe because it sort of feels like we've done like 128
12:36shows so far but this is the first one where i feel like i don't know like i'm like skating on thin
12:42ice or something we just had this we've had a series of very violent scary things happen to the door
12:51like we we dodged like a massacre situation and so i've just been kind of all over the place like
13:02there was this horrible attack in liverpool um at a taylor swift themed dance party
13:11and it was little kids that uh
13:28latest now on a knife attack that has left at least three children dead multiple people injured at a
13:32taylor swift themed dance class in england the youngsters aged six to eleven were dancing to taylor
13:37swift songs when an attacker armed with a knife launched a frenzied assault i'm gonna um
13:45like meet some of these families tonight and
13:47put on a pop concert you know
13:58gonna be fine because when i meet them i'm not gonna do this i swear to god
14:02i'm not gonna do this i'm gonna be smiling so any of this gets out of the way before you ever go on
14:09stage you lock it off three and a half hours they don't have to worry about you it's like you're
14:16like a pilot flying the plane and if you were like oh there's turbulence up ahead i don't know if we're
14:21actually gonna land in dallas like i'm gonna i'm gonna try hard but i don't know if i can actually
14:27like figure out how to land through this turbulence like everyone on the plane is gonna freak out
14:31you just have to have a calm cool collected tone of like we will be landing in dallas at 6.05 pm got
14:39a little turbulence up ahead but it's nothing we haven't seen before just keep your seatbelts
14:43fastened and welcome to the heiress tour
15:01there's something special about this tour this iteration this combination of people this show
15:14and i think about like how much love everybody here is pouring into what they do the people who build
15:19the stage and hang the pa and the people who wash the clothes and play the instruments and do all the
15:24dancing and the only thing we're trying to do is to make the world go away for a little while and make
15:29people feel seen and let them scream lyrics that they love at the top of their lungs it's so
15:34beautiful to find something so positive that can be an escape for people like this can and it's
15:40amazing that what we've been a part of can do that for people so what happened in vienna and the idea
15:48of someone being able to rewrite the entire headline of this whole experience with one awful act i feel
15:53so grateful that it got stopped but i also felt just so horrible for the fans
16:14wollen einfach kein risiko eingehen ist i know that it sounds so stupid to be so upset about this but like
16:21that environment of like the arrest tour where like everyone's so kind and like just having fun and like
16:27girlhood like that was so much of what i wanted to experience something this moving this powerful
16:34this rich in feeling and experience represents more than just people coming to see an artist perform
16:41songs and so we have a large responsibility to do this show and still show up for fans in the way
16:46that we can and know how without getting too far into this i do feel like the world right now is really
16:53torn but i think being a part of this tour we're shining enough light that it actually feels like well
16:59man this is absolutely affecting a lot of lives and i think for all of us that are in it that's a
17:05pretty good perspective after vienna all right let's get out do these shows because this is why we're doing it
17:20just want to know you better know you better know you better now i just want to know you know you know
17:31what i know is bringing out special guests is something that i really enjoy
17:55like when i get to be on stage with someone like ed sheeran we can create a unique special moment
18:02and it really just gives something to the fans that they didn't expect
18:06take me into your loving arms i don't know if he thinks he's doing the harmony the whole time and i'm
18:11doing the melody kiss me under it it's very cool that he would come and do this because i think
18:16it's just going to like really delight people and i think in a moment when like a lot of the fans need
18:20like a pick me up because i know i do baby how you doing so i get to i'm going to the stadium and
18:30i'll do a little i know we'll do a little dressing room rehearsal
18:34i love you i i don't know how do you how do you remember 36 000 plays that are all tactical
18:50missions and then just go do it it's the same it's basically the same job i got songs to remember you
18:56got plays to remember you got teammates i got teammates you've got coach reed i've got my mom
19:10i want you to be here i want to be there why do you have to be in the nfl
19:17so i'm gonna be scouring the internet i'm so excited i'm so excited but have a great practice
19:29i love you so much i love you so much thank you i know this was like some people get a vitamin drip
19:36i got this conversation
19:50so i usually practice in the shower because i'm trying to respect kind of the space and peace of
20:09everyone else so if i need to do something noisy i go somewhere that people aren't that much and
20:15shower isn't a good enough bet you know i'm just trying to try to get a distance from everybody
20:22i started playing for taylor in 2007. amos yeah hey tay are you wearing my headband
20:30again i'm wearing our headband i think if i look back at it now the thing that remains really constant
20:37is there's not a challenge that she isn't going to meet head-on and kind of decide to conquer
20:44and having that kind of energy in the in the lead spot has inspired i can say me personally
20:50to do a lot of the same things this diamond here is where i'm coming up for the first nice for the
20:56first thing when we were in rehearsal for the eras tour we didn't quite know yet what it was going
21:00to be what it was going to be called i remember a meeting think we're all like sitting on the floor
21:05where she kind of cast the vision so it's going to start with a chorus of it's really hard really
21:12hard miss americana chorus like hard it's you and me that's my whole world they whisper in the hall
21:19and she's like here's my visions what we're gonna do just gonna hit them with 22 we are never ever
21:27getting back together i knew you were trouble and then the ten full minutes all too well yeah
21:31we're doing something from every album we want to get straight into willow we'll do enchanted
21:35and we got a list of about 40 songs internally certainly i scoff that's almost three hours
21:51this is this is insanity wonder what are we going to cut and i think we added three songs
22:05it seems obvious now because it did work but at the time it's a big risk to decide we're going to do
22:12a three hour plus show we're going to do it in stadiums and we're going to do it all over the world
22:16and so a lot of tenured professionals are doing their very best to quantify what it is about what
22:22she's doing that's connecting to everybody it's just a show it's just music but there's something
22:27more profound than that going on here
22:52security is being stepped up for taylor swift's upcoming london concerts and this is why it's such
22:56a big deal this is her first performance since that thwarted terror plot to attack a show in
23:01vienna swifties are already moving in all of them going to be carefully screened as they enter this
23:07stadium police telling us they want to make sure that they know what everyone is doing inside that
23:12stadium and what are the fans there saying are they concerned some of the swifties said that they
23:17were acutely aware of what happened in austria but they're they're excited
23:21we've been here for like four or five hours we've spoken to people from like scotland and england
23:31and israel i feel like what's happening right now with everyone waiting for hours and exchanging
23:36bracelets and just like everyone making friends a 10 hours wait goes in five minutes honestly i'm
23:42actually quite new swifty um a flatmate hates me now because i just play taylor swift all the time
23:49she said if you if you like play karma one more time you're going to get evicted i want to cry for
23:55like joy tears of joy is what i want because like this has been such a long time coming like book my
24:01tickets over a year ago just seeing her face i know it's like she's not a real person so i'm just
24:10so excited to like breathe the same air as her casting spotlights here and there across the ground
24:19at a certain point tracy understood where they were going under normal circumstances she would have felt
24:24afraid she was typically i've been performing for you know 20 years from a mental standpoint being
24:33like afraid something's going to happen to your fans at any moment this is a new challenge i want to
24:40keep all of the nerves i have away from the crowd because when you're sort of the ringleader of this show
24:48they can sense any kind of shift energetically in you and you have to really focus on that and factor
24:55that in that you're at the heiress tour nothing's wrong down the same hallway through which they had
24:59entered hey suddenly there came two voices male and hi how you doing trying to take a nap no i'm trying
25:10to calm down i'm having a very physical reaction to my nerves why i'm just i'm just like my hands are
25:17shaky and just nerves about like what happened last week or yeah it's just weird it's just weird i just
25:23have to get this first show over with no it's i'm the same way right now i can't right yeah i can't
25:29relax i'm just like twitchy and fidgety and yeah just get the show over with tonight
25:36get back on the horse hey hey oh my god
25:47nice to see you that's what the doctor ordered i'm so excited thank you for doing this
25:52awesome you guys good yeah do you are you just yes sure yeah sure you just kind of flies on the
25:58wall for everything it's basically like every day that i have not not in vienna though right
26:04they were supposed to start in vienna but i didn't get to go like they oh you weren't even in the country
26:09no i was on the plane headed there it was like i was i'm just
26:15you know it's like i just need to get this i just need to do this show
26:21re like remember the joy of it because i'm a little bit just like
26:27you know and you get time off i get two months off after this which i need i need more than i
26:32never go somewhere because you've seen my schedule like it's like heavy yeah it's just
26:37where are you gonna are you gonna choose somewhere to go you're just gonna live in
26:41i'm just gonna go somewhere no one can find me i just don't want to be tracked like an animal
26:46yeah i just have felt very like hunted lately i feel like people have forgot that like you're a
26:52human being amongst all of this as well 100 yeah yeah
27:01you know it's high yeah it's hot so i can sing the melody if you want to sing the harmony
27:06that would be great i'll do the first verse and first chorus by myself just to build tension and
27:21they're gonna be like oh my god oh my god oh my god izzy izzy izzy and then after the first chorus
27:25i'm gonna be like guys like i could even like stop playing be like guys it's just there's something's
27:31something's not something's missing from this i just and that's when they're gonna start screaming
27:36their heads off when i'm like something's missing i just feel like i feel like i can't do this alone
27:40tonight i just want to know you better know you better know you better now i just want to know you
27:56know you better know you better know you better know i just want to know you know you know you
28:03it's all i know is you said hello your eyes look like coming home all i know is a simple thing
28:12i think everything has changed we can like catch our breath and like take as long as you want and i'll
28:19just follow you when i was young we connected when we were a little bit on the first speed i got the
28:24shoes and chips on both of my shoulders reputation precedes me rumors i'm needing
28:29to do this it's easier to ignore and believe me i fall in love with you every single day
28:37i just wanna tell you i am honey now
28:46cool i fucked up a chord in everything has changed
28:49i just want to know you better know you better know and you you actually came up with that so
28:56so and then you just move one finger to there yeah take that one off okay so we
29:07we found love right where we are so you just you just sort of move the thing one finger down
29:19precisely okay

36:34there's so
36:35many hundreds
36:36of moments
36:37of individual eye contact
36:38throughout the course of the show
36:39i see the mass quantities of joy that everyone's feeling
36:47what's interesting is like there's some joy in the show
36:50but there's a lot of emotions in this that aren't just like
36:54put on your smiley face and come to the heiress tour
36:57it's so much more
37:01you look out into the crowd and this isn't just like a blob of lights
37:05these
37:06these are millions of stories and all these counter narratives all colliding in one place
37:12where we feel safe to be demonstrative about a whole spectrum of emotion
37:16and that stuff
37:17that stuff is really powerful
37:20Life contains multitudes,
37:49and we're kind of exploring all of the dramatic edges of those things.
37:53That's what might be unlocking feelings of joy,
37:57feelings of euphoria.
37:59And it still gets me. It does.
38:19It was so much fun.
38:32We're back. We're back.
38:34We're back. Oh, my God.
38:36That was, like, the most fun I've had.
38:40Just knowing how happy they all were,
38:43they were just losing their minds.
38:49Good job, everybody!
38:51We're back. We're back.
38:53We're back. We're back.
38:55We're back.
39:01Oh, cute.
39:03Oh, my God. We're back.
39:05We're back.
39:07You're right. You killed him.
39:09Love him. Love him.
39:11I'm so relieved.
39:13Anything that happened, I don't know about.
39:16Nothing. Nothing's going to happen, all right?
39:18You've got to go, all right?
39:19Okay. Bye-bye.
39:21Home and rest.
39:28Love you.
39:29Love you.
39:30Oh, my God.
39:37Oh, my God.
39:38I'm so happy.
39:39I can't even deal with it.
39:40God.
39:41It went so great.
39:43I'm so happy.
39:45Oh, I can hear you.
39:47I'm so relieved.
39:48Baby, it's like the crowd knew
39:50that I needed a pick-me-up.
39:52Like, they were...
39:53When I walked out on stage,
39:54they just...
39:55They definitely did.
39:56They were wilder than I've ever seen.
39:58I'm so happy to be back.
40:00I'm so happy to be back doing this
40:02in, like, a functional way.
40:04Like, I was so happy
40:05that I thought I was going to forget
40:07how to play guitar and sing.
40:09Hi, honey. I know.
40:11I know.
40:12How does it work?
40:15Basically, what happens now is, like,
40:17I'll not be able to get to sleep,
40:19because I can't, like, come down.
40:22This is why people need drugs.
40:24But I don't do drugs.
40:25So I just, like, let it ride.
40:27I just, like,
40:28oh, go to sleep when I'm tired.
40:29And when I'm tired,
40:30it's, like, 4 in the morning.
40:32So I watch tons of TV.
40:33I get room for the same bed.
40:35I sign a box of 2,000 CDs.
40:38And then...
40:40And then I'm tired.
40:42And then we do the whole thing again.
40:57We're in a room.
40:58I take a few hours of tea.
41:00We're going to go to sleep.
41:01Please say,
41:02we need your meals.
41:03We need some way to sleep.
41:04We need some food.
41:05We need some food.
41:06We need some food.
41:07We need some food.
41:08We need some food.
41:09We need some food.
