00:00We'll take a look at Alabama and Ty Simpson.
00:03He had a dynamic performance week number one against Oklahoma in Norman.
00:08He throws for 232 and two touchdowns.
00:11If he has that type of performance coach against Indiana,
00:15is that good enough to not only cover the six and a half point number against the Hoosiers?
00:21Is it good enough to pull out the outright victory?
00:25Yeah, they could do that.
00:26He has to be perfect, too.
00:27He can't throw the interceptions along with it.
00:30Because they're one-dimensional and Indiana plays such good, strong defense,
00:34it's going to be done under pressure because it's going to be done in situations
00:38where they know he's going to throw the football.
00:39So he's got to have a phenomenal game because they do,
00:42and they do have some really nice receivers.
00:44They've got outstanding talent at the wideout position.
00:47But I think what's going to have to happen for them to win the football game,
00:50Ty Simpson is going to have to have a great football game
00:53because they don't run it well enough,
00:55and he's got to go out there and make plays against an outstanding defense
00:58that plays well against the pass without turning the football over.
01:02He has the ability to do it.
01:03We've seen him do it at times this year.
01:06But of all the quarterbacks in the SEC,
01:09they're more on his shoulders than anybody because of the type of offense they've got.
01:13Knowing how they started on the road in Norman, right,
01:16and it's a neutral site game, obviously in the Rose Bowl,
01:20does DeBoer and the offensive staff potentially utilize a little tempo early on
01:26to potentially get Ty Simpson into an early rhythm,
01:29or do you think he just goes with maybe scripted plays in this second-round matchup?
01:36You know, the thing that you do with a quarterback in a situation
01:39where he's not as experienced or he hasn't had in a lot of years
01:42is try to script the plays and make sure he knows exactly what you want of him
01:46and don't get out there and ask him to ad-lib too early.
01:49So I would much more think they would make sure.
01:51Now, you can script plays and still tempo a little bit.
01:54Just make sure it's the ones you went over and practiced over and over again
01:57so that when he gets in that ball game, the first five plays,
02:01he knows exactly what they are and what he's exactly going to do,
02:04and then you can adjust your offensive plan according to what happened in those plays.
02:08And so I would think the main thing is not to put him in a real difficult situation,
02:12but I'm going to say this.
02:14When you're the underdog, the first thing I usually see a team
02:17is they're going after you over top.
02:18They're trying to make a play early to let the other team know
02:21that you're there for business.
02:22You're there because you want to win the football game
02:24and you're going to do what it takes.
02:26So look for them to go after Indiana early.
02:29When you look at these second-round games,
02:32are we giving advantages to these quarterbacks that have played in round number one
02:37like Ty Simpson got the ring rust out in maybe the first couple of quarters
02:42against a very good defense in Oklahoma?
02:45Up until this point, Mendoza hasn't played a snap in the college football playoff.
02:49He's on a three-week hiatus since he won the Heisman.
02:53You know, that possibly.
02:55But, you know, I never worried about being off late in the season.
02:58You've had so many repetitions.
02:59You know, early in the year, you're not in sync yet,
03:01and you want to just play one game after the other early in the year
03:04to make sure you're moving toward that good continuity
03:07and that good togetherness.
03:08But late in the season, a week off doesn't hurt.
03:11Now, two weeks off, that's a little bit long to not that.
03:15But they're trying to get their timing in practice as much as possible.
03:18So I don't think it'll be a factor because we're this late in the season
03:21with a talent level we have at the quarterback position.
03:25I don't think we'll have as much problem with these quarterbacks
03:27playing to their level and to their potential.
03:29I don't think we're going to do it again.
03:31So, I don't think we'll have two you guys.
03:32So, let me see.
