43:30For those of you who've attended before,
43:33feel free to ignore my sob story and go straight to the bar.
43:37But for those of you who don't know it,
43:39here's the short version.
43:42My parents were both junior hockey coaches,
43:45and they were hit by a drunk driver when I was 12 years old.
43:51Mercifully for them, they died instantly.
43:54Mercifully for me, the St. Thomas Scholarships existed.
44:01I didn't have anybody else to help me.
44:05I had a lot of memories, a love of hockey,
44:08and a huge hole in my heart.
44:12St. Thomas filled it with hope,
44:15the hope of a new family.
44:18Things weren't always easy.
44:20You know, they never are for anybody.
44:22But in hockey, I found what I was missing.
44:27First at my high school, then later at college,
44:30and now here with the Admirals.
44:32And I never looked back,
44:34because I never had to.
44:39The family I craved, the family that I needed,
44:42that I still need today,
44:45hockey gave it to me.
44:47And St. Thomas gave me hockey.
44:52So from the bottom of my heart,
44:54I want to thank you all for being here tonight,
44:56and for supporting this cause,
44:58because it's not just a scholarship,
45:00it's everything that comes with it.
