Cities like Wichita, Kansas, and Oklahoma City could break records for their warmest Christmas ever recorded this year.
Transcript
00:00Well, we have a very warm Christmas week for many in the South Central, the Central Plains,
00:06and also into parts of the Southeast.
00:08Atlanta's going to be nosing into near-record highs on Thursday, Christmas Day as well.
00:12Unseasonable warmth for many in the Central U.S.
00:15That's going to obviously restrict the snow cover and the areas that will see a full inch of snow on the ground on Christmas Day,
00:21the white Christmas to parts of areas maybe mainly north of I-80 and really high probability north of I-90,
00:30areas like the Great Lakes region and the northernmost parts of the plains in the upper Midwest.
00:34Farther south, we're going to see a little snow tonight into early Tuesday in southern New England,
00:39but will we see a full inch on the ground still on Christmas Day after a little melting?
00:44Maybe not.
00:45We will see some significant snow in some of these areas then on the day after Christmas,
00:49but that's a day too late.
00:51So Christmas Day, we have lots of warmth in the plains and across the south,
00:56and again, a pretty good contrast in air masses from the Great Lakes area to the warmth.
01:01St. Louis, look at this.
01:02We're forecasting 69 degrees.
01:04That would be the third warmest Christmas on record in St. Louis.
01:07The record high for Christmas Day is 71 from 1889.
01:10Probably not going to get quite that warm, but will be a top three warmest Christmas there.
01:14Kansas City, 69 degrees.
01:16That would be the record warmest in Kansas City.
01:19Three degrees above, or two degrees above the previous record from 103 years ago.
01:23In Wichita, 73.
01:25That would smash the record and climb to the warmest Christmas on record there.
01:30And we're doing a similar thing in Oklahoma City.
01:3278.
01:33That would smash the record high by five degrees.
01:36So your official IQ weather forecast, very warm.
01:38Dallas, 78.
01:39That would be a tie for third warmest Christmas on record with two other years.
01:44So a lot of warmth is coming, and we'll close with a look at Atlanta.
01:46We're making a run for the record high at 75.
01:4875.
