00:00The Dolphins finally did what every Dolphin fan's been asking for for the last four years,
00:04and they're benching to it.
00:06And that's very—I want to be clear about this.
00:07They can't cut him because the money's just too crazy for not just another year, for a few more years.
00:13Yeah, $56 million guaranteed for next year alone.
00:15Yeah, so he's not getting cut.
00:17What I thought was interesting about it, though, look, they're out of the playoffs.
00:21They have nothing else to play for.
00:22Yeah.
00:22So you have two young quarterbacks on your roster.
00:24You have my guy, Wilson, of course.
00:26Yep.
00:27Failure with the New York Jets.
00:29That's Zach Wilson.
00:30And then you have Quinn Ewers, who came out of Texas and didn't even get drafted, by the way.
00:34Oh, they got him, I believe, in the seventh round.
00:36Oh, was he a draft?
00:36Seventh round.
00:37I thought he'd been a free agent.
00:38Whatever.
00:38That's like not being drafted.
00:39Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:39Very late.
00:40And they decided Quinn Ewers was getting the start.
00:43And I think that's actually smart by the Dolphins.
00:45I agree.
00:46You know what two is.
00:47He's an average quarterback at best.
00:49They've never won a single playoff game with him.
00:51We kind of know what Zach Wilson is also now.
00:53Again, we've seen quarterbacks.
00:55Sam Darnham's a great example.
00:56Who, when you go to a competent coaching staff, all of a sudden, they unlock your true potential.
01:02Apparently, they don't think that way yet about Zach Wilson.
01:05Maybe they never will.
01:06You know, the Broncos had him in there for a year.
01:08And Sean Payton didn't keep him.
01:10Yeah, did not feel comfortable putting him out there.
01:12But the Quinn Ewers thing is interesting.
01:14He was a great college quarterback.
01:15He played for Texas.
01:17And I don't think they've announced that he's the guy for the final three.
01:21But he's the starting quarterback this week for the Dolphins.
01:24What's interesting about that is why you don't quickly overpay a guy you think might be a franchise quarterback.
01:32Because now the Dolphins are in a terrible spot.
01:35They're not bad enough to get a legitimate franchise quarterback in this year's draft.
01:41They can't theoretically, could you walk away from two and just swallow it?
01:46Well, the Broncos did with Russell Wilson.
01:48But that was one year they ate.
01:50These guys would have to eat multiple years and a ridiculous amount of money.
01:54And they have so many other holes on that roster.
01:57You can't fill even half of them.
01:59But I do think benching two is the right move.
02:02I agree.
02:02Because you've never won anything with Tua.
02:05And to be fair, that's not only on Tua.
02:08Obviously, he got hurt in the season with a concussion that they lost to the Bills in the playoffs.
02:13Right?
02:13They were in 30-degree below zero weather when they lost on the road to the Kansas City Chiefs a couple years ago.
02:19And the Chiefs were better.
02:19Yeah, the Chiefs were a better team.
02:21But the reality is that you've never won anything with him.
02:25And you do have two other quarterbacks on the roster now.
02:27When the Dolphins come back next year, Tua's on the roster.
02:31Yes.
02:31It would be a major, major story if somehow, some way, they either A, found a suitor for him, which I don't think they can because of the money, or B, they flat-out cut him again.
02:41I don't think they can because of the money.
02:43And comparing to Russell Wilson, we're talking about $30 additional million.
02:46It would be a $99.2 million dead cap hit if they were to part with him.
02:52Yeah, so Tua's on the Dolphins next year and maybe even the year after that.
02:56That being said, you got eliminated from the playoffs.
03:00Yep.
03:01And the thing I like best about it is if you guys believe in motivational moves, it does send a message to Tua.
03:09It does.
03:09You may not be our guy anymore.
03:11And even though we might have to have you on the roster, that doesn't mean we have to play you.
03:16And what I've noticed a lot in all my years covering football is the very first game the backup gets to play, everybody tries to elevate.
03:25Everybody tries to play their best to give the kid a chance, right?
03:29Yeah.
03:29Now, I'm not saying the Dolphins are going to win this week or not.
03:32And I don't know that Quinn Ewers is an NFL quarterback.
03:34Obviously, the league didn't think that he was because he was drafted in the last round of the draft.
03:39But he's got an opportunity now to prove to everybody how they screwed up by not drafting him last April.
03:47But I'm telling you, Tua is now on – what's the word I'm looking for?
03:53Countdown.
03:54Not countdown.
03:55What's the word?
03:56Hiatus.
03:57Not hiatus.
03:58Nah.
03:59He's on notice.
04:00He's on notice.
04:01Again, I got to do everything around here.
04:03Tua is on notice.
04:04He's not on hiatus.
04:06He's on notice.
04:07He's on notice.
04:09Tua is on notice.
04:10And for a lot of you long-suffering Dolphins fans, it's three years too late.
04:14It's a $250 million too late.
04:18I don't know why they ever thought he was Josh Allen.
04:20He's not.
04:21Never was.
04:22Never will be.
04:22But we could be looking at a new era of Dolphins football.
04:27With Tua on the bench, not as the starting quarterback.
04:31Be clear.
04:32It's solid.
04:33Beautiful.
04:33Perfect.
04:34That's the soul.
04:34I'll catch you back.
04:34Good.
04:35Bye.
04:35Bye.
04:48Bye.
04:48Bye.
04:49Bye.
04:50Bye.
04:50Bye.
04:51Bye.
04:52Bye.
04:53Bye.
04:54Bye.
04:55Bye.
04:56Bye.
04:56Bye.
04:58Bye.
04:58Bye.
04:59Bye.
