Late-night hosts used President Donald Trump's Oval Office speech, which addressed the border wall and government shutdown and was carried by the nation's biggest broadcast and cable networks, as comedic fodder on Tuesday night.
Transcript
00:00By the time this is broadcast, we're either in a brand new state of emergency
00:05or the same one we've been in since November of 2016.
00:10On Tuesday, President Donald Trump addressed the nation from the Oval Office
00:13to speak about the border wall and government shutdown,
00:15and the late-night host had plenty to say about his remarks,
00:18which were televised on the country's biggest broadcast and cable networks.
00:22On CBS's Late Show, Stephen Colbert announced...
00:25Trump's address preempted our regularly scheduled CBS programming
00:29FBI.
00:31Not the first time he's interfered with an FBI investigation.
00:35Over on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live, the host joked,
00:37this was Trump's first address from the Oval Office.
00:40Up until now, he'd been using it exclusively for Kardashian meet-and-greets,
00:44but tonight, he got very serious.
00:47All the major networks covered his speech live, and for good reason, Kimmel said.
00:51It was historic.
00:52Rarely does the President of the United States interrupt primetime television
00:56to warn us about a completely made-up thing.
00:58Kimmel then offered some friendly advice to the Commander-in-Chief.
01:02If you really want to come up with a fake border crisis, make it a scary border crisis.
01:07Don't say there are illegal immigrants.
01:08Say there is an army of chupacabras crawling in through Tijuana.
01:14On NBC's Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon also acknowledged Trump's address
01:17in the proposed wall, saying,
01:19It got weary when he held up a picture of the wall and said,
01:21And it could all be yours for five easy payments of $1 billion.
01:26The host also noted the address had aired on Spanish language network Telemundo,
01:30and promptly quipped,
01:31Later on, when Trump saw his speech dubbed in Spanish on Telemundo,
01:34he had himself deported.
01:35And late-night Seth Meyers took to Twitter during Trump's address, writing,
01:38Somebody please add and lie from New York, it's Saturday night, into the teleprompter.
01:42He later added,
01:43Is this Oval Office SVU in reference to the show Law & Special Victims Unit?
