Kimmel and Colbert used their Tuesday night monologues to address a recent report that former President Trump attempted to use the resources of federal agencies to “probe or mitigate” presidential satire and parodies of him.
Transcript
00:00Little did I know, I'm up here goofing on him. He's asking the feds to do who the hell knows what.
00:05Late night hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert are putting Donald Trump on blast
00:08after reports that the former president attempted to probe or mitigate presidential satire and
00:14parodies of him. Kimmel addressed the report during his show on Tuesday saying,
00:18President Snowflake asked to send the authorities in to stop us from making fun of him.
00:22Not only that, he wanted Guillermo to pay for the wall.
00:25The report published by the Daily Beast details Trump's inquiries into whether the federal
00:29communications commission, the Department of Justice and the U.S. courts could be used to
00:34investigate and potentially stop, quote, late night comedy mischief makers from cracking jokes or making
00:40fun of him. According to the Daily Beast, Trump took his initial request to his lawyers and advisors in
00:452019 after having previously tweeted something similar that same year, saying in part,
00:49it's truly incredible that shows like Saturday Night Live, not funny, no talent can spend all of
00:55their time knocking the same person, me, over and over without so much of a mention of the other
01:00side. While representatives for Saturday Night Live had no comment about the claims made in the
01:05report, Kimmel did. Remember on the old Batman show, the penguin had those henchmen and the bowler
01:11hats and the tight black shirts? This is what Trump wanted, a goon squad, a bunch of tough guys to
01:17rough people up. While the Daily Beast report addresses that Trump's inquiry was about late night
01:22generally, it specifically names SNL and Jimmy Kimmel Live, much to the offense of the late show host,
01:28Stephen Colbert.
01:28Folks, this is dangerous, disturbing, un-American, and why do I get lumped in with other comedy
01:36mischief makers?
01:38Colbert also blasted Trump's reaction to, quote, our terrible impressions of him.
01:43There has not been a presidential overreaction like this since Nixon sent Navy SEALs to assassinate
01:49the Smothers Brothers. However, before the late night host took to the stage, Trump released
01:54a statement blasting the Daily Beast report as fake, but also took the time to acknowledge his
01:59pick for his favorite impersonator. I did say, however, that Alec Baldwin has no talent,
02:03certainly when it comes to imitating me. The statement which Kimmel displayed during his
02:07segment continued, the one who had what it took was Daryl Hammond. For more on this story,
