00:00Of course it's been negative. When you cover a train wreck, you don't give equal time to the train.
00:05On Wednesday evening, after weeks of anticipation and wild speculation,
00:08President Donald Trump revealed the winners of the highly anticipated 2017 Fake News Awards.
00:14The winners were announced on the Republican Party's website, and the page promptly crashed.
00:19The top spot went to New York Times columnist Paul Krugman for claiming that the economy would be hurt by Trump's election.
00:25The runner-up? ABC's Brian Ross, who was suspended by the network for a month after flubbing a key detail
00:31in a story about one-time national security advisor Michael Flynn.
00:35Third place went to CNN and reporter Manu Raju, who corrected an error in his reporting regarding
00:40Donald Trump Jr. and WikiLeaks.
00:42In fourth place was Time Magazine. Early on in the Trump administration, a reporter for the magazine
00:47mistakenly reported that a bust of Martin Luther King Jr. was removed from the Oval Office.
00:52In reality, his view of the bust was just obscured.
00:54He apologized and quickly set the record straight.
00:57After listing more winners, the announcement ticked off examples of the president getting results.
01:03Trump pushed back the fake news honors a few days after he said on Twitter that
01:06the interest in and importance of these awards is far greater than anyone could have anticipated.
01:12Certainly, the late-night host took particular interest in the awards, even though in the end,
01:16none of them received a mention.
01:18On ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live, the host handed out a Donald Trump fake news award to CNN host Wolf Blitzer,
01:23who was played by Kimmel's own father.
01:25Thanks, Jimmy.
01:26I have so many people to acknowledge, the fake Blitzer said.
01:30First, I want to thank our fake news writers who brilliantly made our bullshit all year long.
01:34I want to thank our special effects team who made it look like the president threw paper towels
01:38at Puerto Rican.
01:39Oh, wow.
01:40Kimmel, pointing out that Wolf wasn't even the real Wolf Blitzer, noted that everything about
01:44the acceptance speech was, appropriately, fake.
01:47He was interrupted, however, by Rachel Maddow, played by Kimmel's mother.
01:52Is anybody hungry?
01:53I made banana mini muffins.
01:55It's Rachel Maddow.
01:57Over on CBS's The Late Show, host Stephen Colbert opened his show with this announcement.
02:01The Late Show won fakest in late night.
02:05However, Colbert may have been a tad bit dishonest.
02:08Oh, really, he just totally lied.
02:10But I think we deserve it.
02:13In part because I'm lying right now.
02:16We didn't win.
02:17Before the awards were announced, Colbert parodied Oscars, Golden Globes, and Emmys campaigning
02:21techniques by taking out a billboard in Times Square asking to be considered for
02:26fakest dishonesty, dishonestest corruption, and smallest button.
02:31Late night hosts also made fun of the awards online earlier Wednesday when Trump didn't
02:36announce them at the previously appointed time of 2 p.m. Pacific.
02:39The Daily Show host Trevor Noah tweeted,
02:41Wait, what if the fake news awards are actually the fake news awards?
02:45Hashtag fake news awards and make America wait again.
02:48Hashtag the fakies.
02:49Hashtag fake news awards.
02:51And full frontal Samantha Bee quipped on her Twitter account,
02:54It's 5 p.m.
02:55Do you know where your fake awards are?
02:56To read the complete list of fake news winners and to watch the full late night reaction segments,
03:01head to THR.com.
03:02For The Hollywood Reporter News, I'm Lyndsey Rodrigues.
