00:00I'd like to talk to the team before I let any information out in regards to the team in general,
00:08but I'll let you guys know that I relieved Steve Wilkes from his duties this morning.
00:14As our defensive coordinator, Chris Harris will actually be some of those duties right now,
00:21and I'll be helping him as he progresses through the week as our coordinator,
00:27and everybody else will stay the same.
00:30This decision that I made late last night, and I talked to him this morning,
00:36and I felt like it was the best decision for the organization at this time.
00:39I've said this all along that I'm evaluating players, I'm evaluating coaches, I'm evaluating myself,
00:45and I just felt like this was the best decision for right now for the team and for this organization.
00:51When it comes to the game, again, disappointed in the loss,
00:57and it's not just the loss in general, it's the way that we lost the game,
01:01but giving up the amount of points that we did, there were mistakes in this game
01:05that was somewhat uncharacteristic of us.
01:10I thought Brady did some really good things, especially the way that he started the game.
01:14I think he was six for six in a touchdown, and then he made some rookie mistakes,
01:18like you would expect any rookie would make, and I see that he's going to get better.
01:23He's going to get better.
01:24When it moves forward as far as he's going to be our quarterback, I'll go ahead and say it now.
01:28I'm going to evaluate that and let you guys know that as this week progresses.
01:35But, again, I was disappointed in the loss, and there's a lot of things that we've got to get better at.
01:40But one was making the decision of the coordinator.
01:44Listen, Steve's a really, really good person.
01:46I think he's a really good coach.
01:47But, again, I thought this was the best decision for this team.
01:49So, any questions?
01:56For what do you think it just didn't work with Steve?
01:59Say that one more time.
02:00You cut out.
02:00Why do you think it didn't work with Steve?
02:02Obviously, you know, what you talked about last week, your belief in him,
02:06and why it just didn't work with Steve?
02:10Listen, I just thought that, you know, from last week going to this week,
02:14that the improvement wasn't there.
02:16And I thought it was time to make a change, you know.
02:21And, again, I'm going to make the decision that's best for this organization at all times.
02:27And it's my job to make sure I continue to evaluate everything that's going on.
02:33And I told you guys that.
02:35And, you know, that's my job as the head coach.
02:37And I just thought this was the time for me to make that decision.
02:40So, will Chris be calling the defense, Aaron, or will you be calling the defense?
02:49Chris will be calling the defense.
02:52He's done it before in the preseason.
02:54Again, I will be assisting him as the week goes by on game planning.
02:59But I've said this before, that this is the league of change.
03:04And with change come opportunity.
03:05And this will be a good opportunity for him to get a chance to call it.
03:12What do you want to see happen with this defense over the next three weeks now, Aaron?
03:16I want to see consistent improvement.
03:19I want to see structure that's consistent.
03:22I want to see play that's consistent.
03:24And I want to see the character of this, the culture of this football team come together.
03:30And that's just the defense I know you asked me about.
03:32But I'm just talking about it in general.
03:33I want to see the culture of this football team in these last three games.
03:38And that's what I'm evaluating also.
03:41You know, listen, I don't think we have a culture problem.
03:44But the thing is, I want to make sure the things that we've been building up to this point stays exactly where it is and even improves.
03:50So, but defensive, that's what I want to see.
03:54Consistency about how we operate and the way that we play.
04:00You keep cutting out.
04:03You were always very highly accountable as a player, in my recollection.
04:08I'm just curious, as part of your measurement of character and culture, you had a couple of your defensive leaders yesterday that refused to speak to the media, both on the defensive side of the ball.
04:19Yeah.
04:19After what took place yesterday.
04:21Does that fall into, where does that fall into that culture and that accountability fall into that kind of culture that you're trying to build?
04:28Are you okay with that?
04:30Is that, you know, I mean, obviously it's their choice, but it wasn't a good look.
04:34Well, I think you just said it is their choice.
04:37And, you know, I don't know why they would, you know, they made the decision that they made, you know, but it's their decision.
04:43They're grown men.
04:44And, you know, who knows, maybe they, it's an emotional time after a game.
04:49And sometimes, you know, the guy just doesn't feel like talking.
04:52Hell, I don't feel like talking all the time, but I know that's what I have to do, you know.
04:55So, I wouldn't hold that against them as far as it's a culture or character problem.
05:01I mean, I'm sure just like you, you don't feel like talking, you know, after, you know, things are not good all the time, you know.
05:08So, but I wouldn't hold that against them.
05:10You know, our guys are not that type of guys.
05:13I think you know that.
05:14And maybe they would just piss at the way that they played.
05:18I understand that.
05:19I understand it's an emotional time.
05:21But I just, I'm curious, I mean, it does, it does fall into accountability to some degree.
05:27I mean, you know, your fans want to know what, you know, why, you know, you know, 48 points was put up on your defense.
05:34And, you know, and Jermaine and Quincy doesn't, you know, they don't want to talk about it's not a good look.
05:39Yeah, yeah, and I understand that.
05:41I do understand that.
05:42But, again, again, it was their choice.
05:45You know, maybe they just wasn't up to talking at that time.
05:47But I'm sure you'll hear from those guys.
05:49So, again, don't take it too hard on those guys.
05:52You're hearing from those guys.
05:52Those guys are grown men.
05:54And they're going to step up to the plate when it's time.
05:56I think yesterday is just the day that they were pretty pissed off at the way the defense played.
06:01And I know that about them.
06:03So, I would ask you, you know, to give those guys a shot.
