Sweet Turned Deadly: Man Poisons Wife with Honey Over Affair Suspicion in Chandauli

Chandauli (Uttar Pradesh): A 26-year-old woman died after being poisoned by her husband over suspicion of an illicit relationship in the Alinagar police station area of Chandauli district. The accused husband, who is a drug addict, also consumed the poison and is currently undergoing treatment.

The incident occurred in Basni village, where Rohit Kumar lived with his wife Monica. According to police and villagers, Rohit had long suspected Monica’s character and frequently quarrelled with her. He was addicted to alcohol and other drugs, which often led to daily disputes between the couple. Tensions had reportedly escalated over the past two to three days.

Late on Sunday night (14 Dec 2025), Rohit returned home drunk, carrying sulphas tablets and honey. After having dinner together, he told his wife that he had brought honey and suggested having something sweet after the meal. Unaware of the danger, Monica agreed. Rohit had already mixed sulphas tablets into the honey. He fed a larger quantity to Monica and then consumed a small amount himself.

Soon after, both began to feel unwell. Hearing groaning noises from the house, nearby residents grew suspicious and informed the police. The Alinagar police rushed to the spot and shifted both to Pandit Kamalapati Tripathi District Hospital in a 108 ambulance.

Monica died during treatment at the hospital. As Rohit’s condition worsened, doctors referred him to the trauma centre, where he is currently admitted.

Dr Chandramani Singh, posted in the emergency ward, said the woman’s condition was extremely critical and she succumbed during treatment. Police have sent Monica’s body for postmortem, stating that the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the report.

Alinagar police station in-charge Anil Pandey said the case is being investigated from all angles. Further action will be taken based on the postmortem report and the complaint. Villagers alleged that Rohit’s drug addiction and constant suspicion of his wife were the main reasons behind the incident.
