00:00When the Knicks do win, and they're going to win the Emirates in-season cup,
00:04those four teams, as you said, they're going to Vegas, and they'll play it out, okay?
00:08Yeah, go ahead.
00:09All right, so here we go, all right?
00:11When the Knicks win, we have an interesting decision we have to make as Knicks fans,
00:16as the Knicks organization, and I'm a counselor, as you may know, to the Knicks organization.
00:21I've heard that.
00:22Okay.
00:23Do we put a banner up or not?
00:27And let me just give you some history of this, okay?
00:28The L.A. Lakers said prior to winning their in-season cup a few years back
00:33that they would never put an in-season banner up next to actual NBA championship banners.
00:39And then because LeBron's there, and LeBron obviously needs people to, you know,
00:45anoint him as the greatest player of all time, LeBron went to the Buss family and said,
00:49I want a banner.
00:51Give me a banner.
00:52That's not what I was talking about.
00:53And Jenny Buss and the crew were like, okay, LeBron, fine, if it means that much to you.
00:57And the Lakers went against their word and actually hung a banner and had a celebration
01:02for it, right?
01:04The Milwaukee Bucks did not hang a banner when they won, and they don't have anywhere near
01:09as many championships, as you know, that the Lakers do.
01:13The New York Knicks have not won a championship since 1973.
01:18We've had nothing to celebrate, literally, Tyrone, in over 50 years.
01:23If and when the Knicks win the cup, should the Knicks hang a banner?
01:29I've got an answer, but you're not a Knick fan.
01:33Yeah.
01:33So I want to hear the outsider's view of this before I tell you what should happen.
01:38Go.
01:38Now, should we do any fact checks or should we wait till Friday?
01:42I fact-checked it for you already.
01:44No.
01:44The Lakers hung a banner.
01:46The Bucks did not.
01:47The Bucks did hang a banner.
01:48They did not.
01:49I'm looking at it.
01:50They did not hang a banner.
01:51I can walk you through what happened on another day.
01:54You're required to hang it.
01:55You are not required to hang it, and I know that's a prevailing thought out there.
01:59A lot of people think you are required to hang a banner, but you're not.
02:04You are.
02:05Nope.
02:06Therefore, the Knicks, plus, being that the Knicks never win anything.
02:10They haven't won in a long time.
02:11They never win anything.
02:13Uh-huh.
02:13The Knicks not only should, they should do it with pride.
02:18Okay, and you're so wrong about that, and I'm glad you said that.
02:22And they're required to do it anyway.
02:23Okay, they're not required.
02:25They are.
02:25It is a team decision because it's a team award type of thing in a team's building that the
02:31NBA does not control.
02:33So here's the reality.
02:34Well, I will celebrate winning it like a seven-year-old boy in first grade who pumps his chest out
02:41and peacocks on the way into first grade, okay?
02:44Okay.
02:45I will celebrate being the best team in basketball, not name the Thunder, okay?
02:50If you beat them, yeah.
02:51But the banner's got to mean something real.
02:55And if I've got a 1973 banner hanging from the rafters of Madison Square Garden, I don't
03:02have a banner up there for anything else.
03:04Is there, there's no Easter Conference champion banner from the finals run?
03:08Yeah, but we mock those.
03:08We mock those.
03:09The only banners that matter are championship banners, okay?
03:11That's fair.
03:12All right?
03:13There, you see the banners right there, okay?
03:15Billy Joel gets a banner.
03:17Well, he had them sold old sellouts.
03:19Sold out the garden a hundred times.
03:20A million dollars, right?
03:21You're going to have all those sellouts, yeah.
03:23So, I want to be clear about this.
03:25I don't want a banner up there.
03:26I want to celebrate it.
03:28I want to enjoy it.
03:29If you want to give out some complimentary t-shirts that say, you know, Emirates Cup champions,
03:34I'm good with that.
03:35I'll rock the shirt.
03:36Put them on all the seats.
03:37I'll rock it.
03:37But the banners should be reserved for real championships only.
03:44And my gut is my main man, James Dolan, the owner of the Rangers and the New York Knicks
03:49and the Garden, feels the same way.
03:51And here's how I know that.
03:52All right.
03:52The New York Knicks recently, a couple years ago, got one of their favorite all-time players
03:58into the Hall of Fame.
04:01He didn't play for the Knicks very long, but Bernard King, number 30, is an NBA Hall of Famer.
04:06He is.
04:07Professional Basketball Hall of Famer.
04:08Yes.
04:09They've given his number out to anybody who wants it.
04:12So, Julius Randle got to wear Bernard King's number.
04:16All right?
04:16It's disrespectful.
04:17The number's never been retired.
04:19Mm-hmm.
04:19And the number will never go into the rafters.
04:23Now, Bernard King had a short career with the Knicks.
04:25He was my favorite, Nick, growing up.
04:27That's the decade of the 80s, obviously, when I really got into basketball.
04:31He's an explosive scorer.
04:32He is one of our greatest players of all time.
04:34He is.
04:34Again, short career, bad knee injuries.
04:36Had some personal demons as well that derailed his career.
04:39All right?
04:40But Bernard King is in the Hall of Fame, and his jersey is not in the rafters at Madison
04:48Square Garden, which tells you all you need to know.
04:51We're going to take home the trophy.
04:53We're going to enjoy it.
04:55We may even celebrate it a little bit, but we're not having a parade in the Canyon of Heroes,
05:00and we are not putting that banner up in the hallowed rafters of Madison Square Garden.
05:08Now, are you sure?
05:10Okay, let me ask you a question.
05:11Yeah.
05:11Okay?
05:12You're a diehard Sixers fan, correct?
05:13I am.
05:14When's the last time the Sixers won a championship?
05:171983.
05:181983.
05:19Long time.
05:19Moses Malone.
05:20Moses Malone.
05:21Mo Cheeks.
05:21Right.
05:22Dr. J.
05:23That's right.
05:23Faux, Faux, and Faux.
05:24Uh-huh.
05:25They actually did a Faux, Faux, and Faux, but we all understood what it meant.
05:28Faux, Faux, Faux.
05:29They did sweep the Lakers.
05:30All right?
05:31Faux, Faux, Faux, Faux, yeah.
05:31So, you haven't won one in 40-plus years.
05:35Yeah, but forever.
05:36If the Sixers ever got good again, and by the way, they're decent.
05:40Played better than I thought they would this year.
05:42Yeah, they're decent this year.
05:43All right?
05:43With a lot of injuries, of course.
05:44Mm-hmm.
05:44If the Sixers won the Emirates Cup, would you demand a banner be hung in the building
05:52or not?
05:53Absolutely not.
05:54Thank you very much.
05:54Because you've got to wait for a real championship if you're the Sixers.
05:58Which is why the Lakers are such frauds, hanging a banner because LeBron wanted to see a banner
06:03get hung.
06:04Now, listen.
06:05I'm going to let you cook on the LeBron thing.
06:06They're not the only ones that have it up.
06:08They're not the only ones, but that's all right.
06:10How did the Lakers hang a banner for the Emirates Cup next to actual banners?
06:13Like, Magic Johnson had to be like, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, that's the banner you're putting
06:18up there?
06:19It's bad enough they hung the COVID banner championship.
06:22Well, that's a championship.
06:23That's not a real championship either.
06:25It's a real championship.
06:26What are you going to do?
06:26They haven't held it.
06:27But I want to be clear.
06:28The New York Knicks are not going to sully that building.
06:32They're not going to sully the memory of 1973 and Willis Reed and Clyde Frazier and on
06:39and on and on.
06:40They ain't going to do it.
06:41Earl of Pearl?
