National afternoon forecast presented by Jonathan Vautrey
Transcript
00:00Hello there, a very good afternoon to you. If you are stepping outside this afternoon,
00:05do be prepared to have that raincoat on hand. We've already started to see the wet weather
00:10arriving from the southwest first thing this morning. It's turned a little lighter and patchier
00:14for some areas of England and Wales, but you can see the brighter colours here indicating some
00:17heavier outbreaks are beginning to arrive. And those could be particularly persistent
00:21across Northern Ireland this afternoon, where we do have a rain warning in force. Some minor
00:25disruption, quite tricky travelling conditions are possible. Those heavier outbreaks generally
00:30moving towards parts of central southern Scotland later on today as well, and it will feel quite
00:35cool, if not locally chilly, underneath the most persistent cloud and rain here. Behind that though,
00:40where things turn drier this afternoon, the reefs are starting to filter in some slightly milder
00:45conditions, so highs of 13, 14 degrees Celsius possible further south, but it is still going
00:50to be quite a breezy day, particularly across areas of England and Wales, so that will temper the feel
00:54the things a touch. Our rain will then continue its way northeastwards this evening, eventually
01:00spreading over towards the Northern Isles, Orkney and Shetland. Some clearer intervals emerging
01:05for a time behind that, but we've got another area of showers that will very quickly push in from
01:10the west overnight. These could be quite heavy and squally, maybe even bring some hail and thunder
01:14in the mixture as well. Amongst all of this, it's not going to be too chilly of a night, perhaps some
01:20of us even holding up in double-digit figures, but for parts of northeastern Scotland where we have
01:25clearer skies overnight, we may just drop down a little bit closer towards that freezing mark
01:30in some very sheltered rural valleys. There could be still a few rumbles of thunder on these showers
01:36as we head into the first part of Monday morning, so watch out for those when you're traveling to work,
01:40but again, they will tend to peter their way out, and we'll see some drier, brighter intervals
01:45developing across several areas. The cloud, though, tending to build across central southern England
01:50into the afternoon, so any of that sunshine turning hazier and generally skies a lot greyer
01:55towards the end of the day. Temperatures, again, roughly above average for the time of year,
02:00between 9 and 14 degrees Celsius, but again, we still hold on to a reasonable breeze across many areas.
02:08Whilst this Monday itself is not too bad overall, we are going to see some much wetter and windier
02:14conditions arriving from the south as we head into the overnight period. Further rain warnings
02:18coming into force for southwest England and Wales as this next area of low pressure begins to arrive.
02:22Some quite heavy outbreaks possible, and you'll notice the tight squeeze on those isobars as that
02:27low pressure begins to push its way towards northwestern Scotland. We could well see gales,
02:32locally severe gales, through the Irish Sea and around other areas across western and northern
02:37districts of the UK. So some further disruption is very well possible, and it's worth staying up to date
02:42with the forecast on the details as we do head into Tuesday. Despite all of that, you'll notice
02:48those temperatures for many of us are quite exceptionally mild for the time of year, 15,
02:52maybe even 16 degrees Celsius. As I said, do stay up to date with the forecast for Tuesday,
02:58and we'll have plenty more updates across our social media channels as well here on YouTube
03:02a little later on, and I'll see you then. Bye-bye.
