00:00Hello there.
00:01A very good afternoon to you.
00:02Ahead of the heat that is building next week, many of us will actually see a slight respite
00:06from some of the extreme temperatures today, all courtesy of a cold front that is slipping
00:10its way south-eastwards, introducing some fresher conditions from the north-west.
00:14The front, though, is bringing a fair amount of cloud to parts of Wales, central southern
00:18areas of England, a few showers on there as well that may turn heavier into the afternoon
00:23for a time.
00:23And there's some low cloud and fog just lingering around some coasts of the English Channel
00:27as well.
00:28Let's catch showers for the far north-west of Scotland with a blustery breeze and some
00:32of the best of the brightness emerging for Northern Ireland, Southern Scotland and Northern
00:36England.
00:37But here, with that fresher air in play, it'll be a fairly pleasant summer's day, highs
00:40around 18 to 22 degrees Celsius.
00:43There's a bit more warmth and humidity across the far south-east and so highs here around
00:4727 degrees Celsius.
00:50Into this evening and overnight, that front will increasingly weaken, it will break up
00:54and the cloud will eventually begin to clear to allow some clearer spells to emerge.
00:59And that leaves many of us with a relatively fine night and overnight period to come.
01:03Underneath some of the clearer skies, temperatures may just drop down into single figures across
01:08the sheltered parts of Northern Scotland and other regions.
01:12But down towards the south-east, there's still that warmth in place.
01:16So a little bit more uncomfortable for sleeping around 17 or 18 degrees Celsius here.
01:22Throughout Sunday, many of us will see a pleasant day overall.
01:25Again, a number of bright and sunny spells emerging.
01:28Not necessarily wall-to-wall sunshine for everyone.
01:30These areas of cloud just may make the sunshine a bit hazier at times.
01:33Some lower cloud lingering across the northern coast of north-eastern England.
01:37And there may be the odd shower in there.
01:39But with the showers easing across north-western Scotland, many of us will see a dry day.
01:43And so plenty of fine conditions if you are stepping outside.
01:46Do you remember that Sunday is the summer solstice, which means that the sun is at its strongest
01:50on Sunday, and so the UV levels will be high.
01:53Temperatures there around 20, 21 degrees Celsius in the north.
01:57But we're starting to see that heat really building in the south-east.
02:00Now back up to 30 or 31 degrees Celsius.
02:03A little cooler where that cloud will linger across the north-east during Sunday, and that
02:09will just persist as we head into the overnight period.
02:12But generally, the heat is going to be building as we head into next week.
02:15As high pressure drifts its way eastward, we start to tap into a southerly wind from the
02:19continent, and that allows us to increase our heat and humidity from the heat wave that
02:24has been building across parts of France over recent days.
02:27And so our temperatures will also begin to climb.
02:29And that is why we have formed an extreme heat warning, an amber extreme heat warning, across
02:36parts of England and Wales for Monday and Tuesday.
02:39Potential that we see mid-30s as we head over next week, which is quite exceptional for June.
02:44Our highest temperature ever recorded in June is 35.6 degrees Celsius.
02:48We will be pushing quite close to that in places.
02:51So do take care as we head into next week.
02:54Obviously, many of us may enjoy the heat, but certainly it is worth taking care and staying
02:58hydrated, keeping up with vulnerable relatives, and water safety will be paramount if you
03:03are heading to any water bodies.
03:05But we will keep you up to date with all the latest as we head into next week.
