As arctic air leads to dangerously cold conditions in the Northeast, snow squalls are causing additional problems.

00:00You'll notice these cars taking it slow. That's how you want to be driving in the snow. Now we
00:05have more of it falling as we take a zoomed in look at radar here. I want to point out it's
00:10starting to diminish but really the threat for snow squalls not quite over yet. Tomorrow that's
00:16not a concern anymore but still some of this snow it can pack a little bit of a punch. I'll show you
00:21what I'm talking about here when we take you to our storm reports. I've already clicked on some of
00:26these but it's the wind reports that are talking about the snow squalls. It's where you have 35
00:30mile per hour gusts that mixed with the snow leads to well in this case quarter mile visibility and
00:35this can happen very very quick. Now the snow totals they're not that impressive 1.3 inches.
00:41The higher snow totals are closer to the lakes. This one is two inch but some of these that I've
00:45already clicked on four five inch reports that's the outlier. Most places have received one to three
00:51maybe you'll pick up a couple more tenths of an inch as we go into tonight but the cold really
00:56starts to win out as the bigger story. Here's the record challenging lows that Jeff was mentioning.
01:02Not all of these in the northeast for example we have Chicago on the list here not set to break the
01:08previous record of four from 2005 but hey Kalamazoo you're gonna get down to one previous record of
01:13seven from 1991. Bridgeport Connecticut also set to break a record this one in the teens previous
01:19record 17 from 1989. Either way cold is cold and this is the kind of cold you want to be prepared for
01:25not just where we're challenging records but across the board here you're seeing a lot of below zero
01:30lows we're seeing a lot of single digit lows or lows in the teens even 20s you want to make sure
01:36you're dressing properly heading out to the school bus or wherever you might be going first thing
01:40tomorrow morning. Good news it doesn't last but our highs not that much better than our lows still
01:46well below where we should be this time of year. We take a look at our historical averages Boston for
01:50example I crossed out your forecasted high with my circle there let me try again 27 that's your
01:55forecasted high usually we're in the mid 40s this time of year Bangor Maine I mean you're already in
02:00the teens usually we're in the upper 30s for some of you like Bangor this is the kind of cold you
02:04typically do get at some point in the winter but hey it's not even technically winter yet and we're
02:09seeing these kinds of temperatures. We do rebound for the weekend we're back to the 30s the 40s
02:14and it's one of those scenarios when you live somewhere very cold and you know you're in the
02:19teens you're in the 20s by the time you get back to the 30s it feels kind of warm some of you might
02:24be feeling that way this weekend. One thing to keep in mind though while the cold is the bigger story
02:29we have snow tomorrow in the mid-atlantic we have our next round of snow and rain depending on where you
02:34are moving in Saturday and especially Sunday into the northeast and the Ohio Valley so it's not just
02:39the cold that you have to deal with.
