00:00I'm Tom Morris Jr. and this is Fugitives Caught on Tape. Let's get into it.
00:18This guy has no regard for anybody else on the road.
00:21First up, we're in Tarzana, California, where state troopers are in pursuit of combat.
00:51In pursuit of a suspect in a reportedly stolen RV who's driving recklessly on local roads.
00:59Earlier, an LA County Sheriff's deputy spotted a seemingly unoccupied RV parked near the end
01:05of a dead-end street.
01:06He ran the plate, and when it came back as stolen, he called for backup.
01:11But just as help arrived, the RV suddenly started moving and the driver refused to stop for the
01:17officers and fled the scene.
01:21Soon, multiple California Highway Patrol troopers joined the pursuit, as the suspect began driving
01:28dangerously.
01:29Yeah, this is a two-lane road right now, it's about 80 miles per hour.
01:34The driver manages to pull away and then cuts across traffic into a residential area.
01:40He's going wrong way, Nashville Street.
01:43Copy wrong way in the residential area.
01:45As a local news station's helicopter picks up the chase, the RV blows through a stop sign, and
01:54several red lights, leading to some very close calls.
01:58The RV then briefly enters a parking lot, but as the suspect exits the lot, as the RV makes
02:25this wide left turn, it slams into a tree, which tears apart the side of the vehicle and rips
02:32off the front bumper.
02:33He's heading into a tree.
02:34Go going.
02:35Get into a street.
02:36Go going.
02:37Get into a street.
02:38I'm moving.
02:39I'm still parking lot.
02:40And we're going to head out on Tampa.
02:41Shout out Tampa.
02:42He lost the entire front end, crashing into that, I think it was a tree or something.
02:47Go going.
02:48The right side of the vehicle is gone.
02:50In addition to the front bumper and side wreckage, the RV's windshield has been completely destroyed.
02:55And as the chase continues, additional debris falls off the vehicle.
03:01Officers then spot an unsecured dog in the front seat with the driver, sticking its head
03:07out of the badly damaged RV.
03:10And then.
03:11An animal, an animal just fell out of the vehicle.
03:15Looks like a dog on the south side of the street.
03:17A dog just fell out of the vehicle.
03:19And before long, another dog is seen sitting up front with the driver.
03:24Then, as the RV emerges from this overpass.
03:28The RV violently collides with another vehicle, but somehow manages to continue as one of the
03:43troopers pulls over to check on the crash victim.
03:48And less than a minute later.
03:49All right.
03:50Suspect, just D.C.
03:51Major D.C.
03:52With the second vehicle.
03:53Students keep coming.
03:54Stop downtown Tampa.
03:55Suspect just hit a car and crashed into a tree.
04:01With the second dog still sticking its head out the front, the RV slams into another vehicle
04:08and then into a tree.
04:11As troopers pull up, they spot the suspect and a dog fleeing on foot.
04:16And they're in the front, and they're in the front of the truck.
04:25Troopers quickly exit their vehicles and grab the suspect as she attempts to hop a fence.
04:30You might have killed somebody down there.
04:32I'm scared of jail.
04:34They're my dog.
04:35That's all I have left.
04:37Don't worry about that right now.
04:39You need to be worried about all the damage.
04:41No, I didn't mean to do all that.
04:43I'll do anything else.
04:44The suspect, 52-year-old Julie Ann Rainbird, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment before being arrested.
04:58The victim of the final crash suffered serious injuries, including a punctured lung, broken ribs, and a spinal fracture.
05:06He was taken to a hospital and treated.
05:09The first dog, named Onyx, who jumped out of the RV, suffered abrasions to his front left and back paws.
05:17The second dog, Starlet, who stayed by Rainbird's side, suffered minor injuries, including bleeding from its paw.
05:25Both dogs received treatment for their injuries and were initially taken by animal control.
05:31Later, they were both adopted by a family in the state of Oregon.
05:34Rainbird was hit with 18 total charges, including hit and run, animal cruelty, DUI, assault with a deadly weapon, and fleeing.
05:46She took a deal and was convicted of those five charges.
05:50The remaining charges were dismissed, and Rainbird was never charged for auto theft.
05:55She served eight years, eight months in prison, and upon her release, Rainbird was banned for life from driving a vehicle.
06:04Next, we're in Fayette County, Georgia, where police are in pursuit of an armed fugitive, who they say allegedly kidnapped an employee at a fast-food restaurant.
06:18Earlier, Fayetteville PD got a 911 call.
06:21After the suspect bled with the employee, police arrived on the scene and spoke with the restaurant manager.
06:43All right, what happened?
06:45So, the guy came in, and when she saw him, she pulled me to the side, and she was like,
06:51Remember my ex-boyfriend I was telling you about? He just came in.
06:54And I was like, Where is he?
06:55So, because I wanted to, you know, make her, because she looked frightened.
06:58That's when he walked back from here, and I was like, Excuse me, you can't come back here.
07:02And he pushed past him and walked up to her, and she started screaming.
07:06And she's like, He got a gun. He got a gun.
07:08And I heard him cock the gun, grab her arm, and he walked her out with the gun at her side like this and walked her out the front door.
07:15Police ID the suspect as 20-year-old Cameron Jamichael Hopkins, the employee's ex-boyfriend.
07:22And this was not the first time he'd been accused of this.
07:25A year earlier, according to court records, Hopkins was arrested after dragging the same woman out of a vehicle at gunpoint, forcing her into his vehicle, and fleeing.
07:37He was charged with making terroristic threats, kidnapping, and other crimes before being released on a $162,000 bond.
07:47Now, dispatch relays info to officers on duty.
07:50And it's not long before Clayton County Officer Jacob Collins spots the vehicle driving through this intersection.
08:11Officer Collins attempts a traffic stop, but the suspect speeds away.
08:15As the chase continues, the fugitive increases his speed and begins driving recklessly.
08:37Well, he's on the wrong side of the road, way back, in and out of traffic.
08:40He's now over 100, about 105.
08:43As the suspect approaches a center median, he runs into trouble.
08:49He's in the median. He's probably going to go flat or short.
08:52The damage slows the fugitive's car, and Officer Collins catches up just as he makes this turn.
08:58Yeah, it looks like he's turned into the high school here.
09:01The pit maneuver is a success, as it brings the fugitive's vehicle to a halt.
09:10But then...
09:12Shots fired! Shots fired!
09:16Hey, I'm behind you! I'm behind you!
09:18Where is this?
09:19I don't know.
09:19As Collins and another officer take cover, the suspect continues shooting.
09:24As backup arrives, officers plan their next move.
09:31Hey, I'm going to pop him. It's three out of three.
09:33I'm going to pop this back window.
09:34All right.
09:35Try to get a visual.
09:36Okay.
09:37Less lethal.
09:38Less lethal!
09:39Less lethal!
09:39Using less lethal projectiles, officers shoot out the suspect's back window.
09:46And then fire a chemical irritant into the car in hopes of forcing him out.
09:52Show us your hands!
09:53Hey, I see something coming up front.
09:54Put your hands up the window!
09:56Hey, let me see your hands!
09:58Put your hands!
10:00I see his hands in the back window.
10:03Keep your hands rocking sound!
10:05Keep your hands at the window!
10:07Eventually, the fugitive emerges from the vehicle.
10:10He's coming out?
10:11No, I got this...
10:12Climb out!
10:14I'm coming with the shield!
10:15Come out!
10:16Come out!
10:16Come on!

10:24No!
10:24Come out of the car and we can help you and step out!
10:26Step out!
10:27Keep your hands up and just step out!
10:28We can help her!
10:29There you go!
10:30Step out!
10:30Step out!

10:35Get on the ground!
10:36Crawl to us!
10:37Crawl to us!
10:39Crawl to us!
10:40The suspect!
10:41The suspect complies and crawls toward officers.
10:45After he's cuffed, they check his car, where they find the woman unresponsive.
10:50She'd been shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
10:56The suspect's weapon was found inside the vehicle.
10:59Where's the gun at?
11:00There's a gun in the passenger floorboard.
11:01All right.
11:02Officers gave the suspect water for his burning eyes before transporting him to Clayton County
11:07Jail.
11:09Hopkins was charged with murder, kidnapping, aggravated assault, aggravated stalking, possession
11:16of a weapon, and other charges.
11:18If convicted, he could be facing the death penalty.
11:21Next, we're in Washington County, Florida, where a state trooper and two deputies are in
11:31pursuit of a suspect who fled from officers and is now driving on the wrong side of the
11:36road.
11:37Earlier, Trooper Timothy Elmore was on patrol when he noticed this car with improper tinting
11:43on its side windows.
11:45When he checked the license plates, they came up as expired and registered to a different
11:50vehicle.
11:51Then, as Trooper Elmore pulled up alongside the car, he says the driver crouched down as
11:57if trying to hide his face, so he initiated a traffic stop.
12:02But the suspect did not comply.
12:06He began driving dangerously, hitting speeds over 100 miles an hour and traveling in the
12:11opposite lane of traffic, blowing through a stop sign, and making several illegal U-turns.
12:23Now, Washington County deputies Jeremy Anderson and Dustin Rogers, traveling in the same vehicle,
12:29to join the pursuit.
12:30As the suspect continues driving recklessly, nearly slamming head-on into oncoming cars.
12:39As the chase continues on local roads, Trooper Elmore closes in, and the suspect suddenly slams
12:49on his brakes.
12:50The impact of the crash tears the rear bumper off the suspect's car.
13:00But he keeps going, and about a minute later, the fugitive hits his brakes again.
13:07Despite the suspect's evasive moves, Trooper manages to execute a successful pimp maneuver, which
13:23also disables the suspect's vehicle.
13:32But the fugitive refuses to give up.
13:34Got your pants.
13:35Get away.
13:36Get out!
13:37Get out!
13:37Get out!
13:41He runs across the road, pops a fence, and runs into a wooded area, as all three officers
13:47pursue.
13:48Get out!
13:49Get out!
13:50Get out!
13:51Get out!
13:52Get out!
13:53Get out!
13:54Less than a minute later, with the officers still in the woods, the fugitive hops back
13:59over the fence and runs up the road.
14:06The three officers return to their vehicles to plan their next move.
14:11No, but there's a road right there.
14:13There's a road right there.
14:14I see a road.
14:15The deputies get back in their cruiser and head toward a side road.
14:19They're here.
14:20There's a thread behind the shovel.
14:23They're here.
14:23The deputies spot the suspect hiding in the brush.
14:27Here!
