00:46First up, we're in Ocala, Florida, where law enforcement officers in the air and on the
00:51ground are in pursuit of a suspect in an allegedly stolen truck traveling at speeds over 100
00:57miles an hour.
00:59Corporal Justin Tortora of the Marion County Sheriff's Department was on patrol when he ran the license
01:04plate on a red truck.
01:06It came back as stolen, and after the driver blew through this red light, the corporal turned
01:12on his lights and siren, but the suspect sped off.
01:17Now, as the driver crosses over into the opposite lane of traffic, Corporal Tortora has a tough
01:23time keeping up.
01:25All right.
01:2623.
01:27Just lost sign.
01:28Okay.
01:29Got him.
01:30He's coming up for this morning.
01:31Is Air One going to go?
01:33Soon, the Sheriff's Department helicopter, Air One, locates the suspect, then switches its
01:38camera to night vision for better tracking.
01:41Air One is here.
01:42Cameras just now come up.
01:44I thought there's going to be a plan now.
01:46I'm trying to light things up.
01:48Corporal Tortora and other officers back off as Air One takes the lead in following the
01:53suspect.
01:54Now, eastbound on 8th Street at First Avenue, eastbound.
01:59Suddenly, the suspect goes off-road and into a vacant lot.
02:04Air One quickly directs the officers in the area.
02:07Unit that's on Magnolia, turn right.
02:09You just turn behind you into that lot.
02:13To the right, to the right.
02:15As Corporal Tortora enters the lot, the suspect ditches the truck and flees on foot, but Air One
02:21is watching his every move.
02:23Stop there.
02:24He's out.
02:25Looks like he's out on foot.
02:26He's on foot running northbound, coming up to 7th Street.
02:31You hit it on First Avenue at 7th Street.
02:34Go back to the east.
02:36The Corporal exits his cruiser, deploys his canine partner, Leo, and takes off after the fugitive.
02:44But when they can't spot the suspect in the dark, they get another assist from Air One.
02:51In the back parking lot of a business.
02:53Go to your right.
02:54Go to your right.
02:55Go to your right.
02:56Go to your right.
02:57Before long, the Corporal spots the suspect near a fence.
03:01Sheriff's Office Kanan!
03:02You're under arrest!
03:03Go, please, go!
03:04Park it!
03:05Park it!
03:06Park it!
03:07Park it!
03:08And a foot chase ensues.
03:09Sheriff's Office Kanan!
03:10You're under arrest!
03:11Go, please, go!
03:12Go!
03:13Corporal Totora unleashes K-9 Leo, and they both chase the suspect into a yard.
03:18The suspect hops a fence, but Leo is hot on his trail.
03:24Get away, get away!
03:25First Avenue, north of 7th Street.
03:28He runs across the street, dropping his backpack along the way, as K-9 Leo closes in.
03:36K-9's engaged.
03:38And seconds later, Corporal Totora arrives at the scene.
03:42Don't bite that dog!
03:43Get on the ground!
03:44Get on the ground!
03:45Get on the ground!
03:46Get on your stomach!
03:47Get on your stomach!
03:48Get on your stomach!
03:49Get on your stomach!
03:50Get on your stomach!
03:51After the Corporal cuffs the suspect, he commands Leo to release his bike.
03:56I'll shoot!
03:57I'll shoot!
03:58I'll shoot!
03:59I'll shoot!
04:00What'd you run for, buddy?
04:01Oh yeah, you really got set up.
04:03Yeah!
04:04You got set up big time.
04:05You got set up big time.
04:08Backup soon arrives.
04:11It was a set up I said.
04:12What are you pleasing me for?
04:14I got nothing for you.
04:17Not many people you could have killed.
04:20It was a set up, man.
04:22Good job, buddy.
04:23You did good.
04:25Put your back in the road.
04:27Good job.
04:29You fast.
04:30The suspect was ID'd as 15-year-old DeMarcus Deshaun Payton.
04:36When officers search his backpack in the truck, they find ammunition and a Glock 22 handgun.
04:42Anything in it?
04:43I found a bullet, a phone, and a water.
04:47You go back.
04:48That's not my stuff.
04:50Okay.
04:50That's not me, Josh.
04:52That's not my stuff.
04:53So we got three non-mill rounds.
04:57You want me to take those for evidence?
04:58Yeah.
04:59All right.
05:00What is it?
05:01A stone gun?
05:01Yeah, I didn't know.
05:03Payton, who officers say admitted to car hopping, was transported to a hospital to be treated
05:08for lacerations and punctures on both of his legs from the canine bites.
05:13The Department of Juvenile Justice later took custody of the teen, whose identity was made
05:18public despite his minor status per Florida law.
05:22He was charged with multiple counts of burglary and theft, along with fleeing, eluding, possession
05:28of a firearm by a minor and resisting law enforcement.
05:31He was adjudicated delinquent and ordered to serve 15 days of secure detention, followed
05:38by probation until age 19.
05:40Next, we're in Healy, Alaska, where state troopers are in pursuit of a suspected drug dealer who's
05:50on the run and shooting at them.
05:52Earlier, troopers got an alert from the narcotics squad that 45-year-old Michael Grimes, a convicted
06:02felon and suspected drug dealer they'd been surveilling, was headed their way, armed and
06:08potentially transporting drugs.
06:10Also in the car, Grimes' girlfriend, 42-year-old Melody Perry, whose past record includes a conviction
06:17for theft.
06:18Troopers had already set up position outside of town in order to reduce the risk to civilians.
06:25Troopers activated their lights and sirens and quickly caught up to the suspects, who, at
06:39first, appeared to be complying.
06:41Trooper Aaron Mobley circled around in front of the suspect's truck to block him off, but
06:51he managed to swerve his way out of the trap and take off.
06:55Now, troopers further up the road set up spike strips, and as the suspects approach...
07:06About a minute later, the effects of the stop sticks begin to kick in, and as the driver
07:22begins to slow down, trooper Nathan Hollenbeck moves in to attempt a pit maneuver.
07:31Though the pit is unsuccessful, it manages to slow the suspects down even more, and the
07:37troopers quickly surround him.
07:39But when trooper Mobley pulls up next to him, the driver reacts.
07:44Oh!
07:45Suspect!
07:46Shots fired!
07:47Shots fired!
07:48Shots fired!
07:49Get my gun!
07:50Shots fired!
07:50Shots fired!
07:51Shots fired!
07:52Shots fired!
07:53Shots fired!
07:54And as the chase continues, so do the gunshots from the suspect.
07:56Multiple rounds shot.
07:57Multiple rounds.
07:58Pick him out!
07:59Deathly force is authorized, or it gets to the populated area of...
08:03With the situation quickly escalating and approaching a heavily populated area, trooper Trevor Norris takes the lead and returns fire through his windshield.
08:17The suspect retaliates.
08:23And the two become engaged in a life or death shootout.
08:27The damaged truck now slows to a stop in the middle of the road.
08:35Troopers quickly exit their vehicles and take cover behind Norris' cruiser.
08:41Then, as the truck begins to roll forward, the troopers open fire.
08:49Just fired.
08:51When the shooting stops, troopers address the passenger in the truck.
08:54Passenger, exit the door now!
08:57Passenger, put your hands outside. Open the door from the outside. Keep your hands visible.
09:07The passenger exits the vehicle and complies with officer's orders.
09:12Back towards us. Back towards us. Keep your hands up.
09:17Keep backing up!
09:18Down to my voice. Down to my voice.
09:20Keep coming. Keep coming. You're a sucker.
09:22You want me to watch, Sonny?
09:23I'm a sucker.
09:23I'm a sucker.
09:24Is he hit?
09:25With the passenger detained, troopers turn their attention to the driver.
09:29Driver, put your hands up so we can see your hands.
09:33When the driver doesn't respond, troopers take a different approach.
09:37Hey, Swope has a shield.
09:40He has a shield.
09:42Is he going to run inside? Is he going to run inside?
09:46Driver, speak to us now!
09:48Don't move it. Don't respond.
09:50He's alive. He's blood with him.
09:53He's still breathing.
09:54Pull him out.
09:55Okay, let's get medical.
09:57Medical?
09:59Alright, he's still breathing. We've got to get that death.
10:01Bill Johnson?
10:02Yep.
10:03We're going to get you some help.
10:04Remember, guns!
10:05Guns!
10:06Yep.
10:06Yep.
10:07Medics arrived to provide aid, but the suspect is pronounced dead at the scene.
10:17An autopsy later concluded that Grimes' death was caused by a self-inflicted gunshot.
10:22In addition to his gun, troopers found multiple magazines on the suspect and under the vehicle's tailgate.
10:29They also found 2.6 kilos of methamphetamine, 257 grams of fentanyl powder, and 111 grams of fentanyl pills.
10:39Perry, Grimes' girlfriend, was unharmed during the incident, but was found to be in possession of a pistol.
10:45She was arrested and charged with misconduct involving weapons.
10:50Perry pled guilty and was sentenced to two years in prison.
10:53No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
10:59Next, we're in Erie County, Ohio, where state police are in pursuit of a suspect who they say just assaulted a trooper and is now driving recklessly.
11:10Earlier, the trooper pulled over this SUV for driving over 100 miles an hour in a 70 zone.
11:17And when he smelled marijuana and suspected the driver's ID was fake, he called it in and requested backup.
11:25You go ahead and 20, signal 7 to the 108.
11:28When he asked the driver to step out of his vehicle, he complied, and the trooper patted him down.
11:42But when he asked him to sit in the backseat of his cruiser, the driver refused, and things got physical.
11:48The suspect managed to make it back into his SUV, throw it in reverse, and slam into the trooper's cruiser before taking off.
12:05Now, the trooper pursues the suspect as he drives recklessly on the turnpike.
12:18Up ahead, additional trooper's prepared to lay down spike strips.
12:335-7-8-1, it hits a 16-7, try to set up there.
12:37All right, I can do that.
12:38Before long, the suspect approaches their trap.
12:41We've got a bus now.
12:44Speed.
12:4513, light traffic.
12:47You got him, you got him.
12:49We've got him.
12:50We've got him, right there.
12:53We've got him, right there.
12:54We've got him, right there.
12:55We've got him, right there.
12:56We've got him, right there.
12:56Troopers up ahead block an exit ramp, but that doesn't stop the suspect, who somehow manages to get around them.
13:04Click the exit, click the exit.
13:06And continues to drive dangerously.
13:13As the fugitive approaches another exit, this trooper pulls ahead of him.
13:19And as they both take the exit, the suspect sideswipes the trooper's cruiser.
13:26It's just struck 76, we're at 31, left shoulder.
13:32Immediately after coming to a stop, the suspect flees on foot.
13:38Left side of the man.
13:40We ran to left side.
13:41I'll be in place for you.
13:43Troopers quickly take a pursuit and catch up to the fugitive at the bottom of this hill.
13:52Don't stop it!
13:53This is for weed!
13:56For weed, mother f***er!
13:59No, for running, dude.
14:00No!
14:01You hit two other people, my man.
14:02You hit a cop and you hit a person.
14:04Let's get you up.
14:05They said you're going to need EMS.
14:07You all right?
14:07Yeah, I'm good.
14:08My neck's a little tight.
14:11That's it.
14:11The suspect, 45-year-old Michael Andrickson, was charged with felonious assault, failure
14:19to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, vandalism, identity fraud, and other
14:26charges.
14:27Andrickson pled guilty to the first three charges and the rest were dropped.
14:31He was sentenced to a minimum of four years, 11 months, and a maximum of five years, 11
14:37months in prison, with credit for 454 days served.
14:42Andrickson will be eligible for parole after serving two years of his sentence.
14:46Next, we're in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, where local PD were in pursuit of a suspect
14:55who they say just pulled a gun on another driver during a road rage incident.
15:02Earlier, dispatch received a call from the alleged victim, who told officers that he was
15:07still following the suspect and provided his location.
15:11911, is there an emergency?
15:14I'm glad you pulled a gun on us.
15:16Okay, where are you at?
15:17On Pepper Ave, he's going east on Pepper Ave, he's in on a blue Volkswagen car, we're behind
15:23him.
15:24Okay, what happened, then he pulled a gun?
15:26He was all over the road and he gave us a finger as we pointed to the gas station and
15:29then he got out, and I said, hey, is everything okay?
15:31And he grabbed the gun, he's like, not yet.
15:33I'm like, hey, s***.
15:35Okay, I have a bunch of officers in route.
15:39Soon, Sergeant Jordan J. Eske spotted the vehicle and called it in.
15:44We're west on an apple.
15:46Westbound an apple, behind it.
15:48It's all over the road.
15:49Blue Cassade.
15:50We're going to a north-on-the-wall.
15:53We're going to cross the 12th.
15:56Look at the curb.
15:58Runway traffic, southbound 11th.
16:01Now, as the suspect drives recklessly on wet, snowy roads, blowing through this red light
16:07and repeatedly driving in the wrong direction, Sergeant J. Eske manages to stay close and
16:14soon backup arrives with Sergeant Drew Borchardt in the opposite lane.
16:19Now, back in a residential neighborhood, the fugitive's car starts having issues.
16:27North on 18th Street, passenger side, front tire's flat.
16:31Both front tires, both front tires are out.
16:38The driver makes a turn, hits another curb, and then appears to come to a stop.
16:48But as Sergeant J. Eske cautiously approaches, he takes off again.
16:52With multiple cruisers now behind him, and another blocking his path up ahead, the road rage suspect
17:00makes a desperate move.
17:02Sergeant J. Eske hops a fence, and seconds later...
17:26Get on the ground!
17:30Get on the ground!
17:31...takes the suspect down.
17:33Give me see your hands! Give me see your hands!
17:37Hand, bleep!
17:38Give me see your bleep!
17:39As the sergeants work on getting the suspect in cuffs, backup arrives.
17:44Hands behind the back!
17:45We've got a magazine on the ground here. We've got a magazine on the ground.
17:48Put your hands behind your back!
17:51Put your hands behind your back!
17:53Can you hear me?
17:5510-95.
17:56The suspect, whom police soon discover is already on probation for drunk driving and
18:03pleading eluding and officer charges, is ID'd as 29-year-old Dane Biennick.
18:09Ah!
18:10Dude!
18:11Put your feet underneath you!
18:13Let's go!
18:14Come on!
18:15My feet are hurt.
18:16My legs are hurt.
18:17You're running good time.
18:19I'm gonna pull my pants on here.
18:21You're alright.
18:22F***ing pants are falling down.
18:23You'll be alright.
18:24After securing Biennick in the back seat of a cruiser, officers are surprised to learn
18:29that his fiancée has been following him throughout the entire pursuit.
18:34Is he okay?
18:35I think he's fine.
18:38He seemed like he was fine when he was running from us.
18:40Yeah.
18:40We're gonna check him out just as precaution.
18:43I'm, uh, I'm six months pregnant.
18:45Okay.
18:45He has a gun then.
18:46You don't know if he has it with him?
18:48It's mine.
18:48Okay.
18:49What does it look like?
18:50It's a tan block.
18:51Okay.
18:52It has to be in my safe.
18:53I don't know if he has it with him.
18:55Okay.
18:55Officers search the area where the suspect was captured and locate the tan glock.
19:02Alright, we got the pistol.
19:04And then find ammo in his car that matches the gun.
19:09There's live rounds in there.
19:12Uh, bag and live rounds in that bag.
19:15Those on the floorboards.
19:17Under the driver's seat.
19:18Viennick was arrested and charged with first degree recklessly endangering safety, illegal possession of a firearm, fleeing, eluding an officer, and other charges.
19:29He pled guilty to those three charges and the others were dismissed.
19:33He was sentenced to five years in state prison and five years of extended supervision.
19:38And, as a result of these new charges, probation in his other case was revoked and he was ordered to serve four years and two months in prison.
19:48The two sentences will run consecutively.
19:51The victim in the road rage incident was, according to police, shaken but unharmed.
19:57Thanks for watching Fugitives Caught on Tape.
