00:00I'm Tom Morris Jr. and this is Fugitives Caught on Tape. Let's get into it.
00:19This guy has no regard for anybody else in the road.
00:26Stop the car! Stop the phone!
00:29Get down the garage now!
00:32Get down! Stop moving!
00:35Search every town, boots on the ground.
00:38Pay, pay, pay, pay!
00:48First up, we're in Wood County, Ohio,
00:51where state troopers are in pursuit of two fugitives
00:54wanted for armed robbery and homicide.
00:57All green, they're pointing a gun.
01:00They just shot at me.
01:02Earlier, local PD in Monroe, Michigan, got a 911 call about a shooting.
01:07According to police, two suspects entered a corner store and robbed the clerk at gunpoint.
01:13Once outside, they shot two men at point-blank range before carjacking their truck and fleeing the scene.
01:22One of the shooting victims, a 34-year-old male, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
01:28They had since recovered, but the other victim, 31-year-old Michael Ronald Beck, Jr., died at the scene.
01:35Police collected security camera images of the suspects and shared them with neighboring jurisdictions in Michigan and Ohio.
01:43And about four hours later, state troopers, along with deputies from the Wood County Sheriff's Office,
01:49spotted a vehicle that fit the description of the stolen truck at a rest area near Bowling Green, Ohio.
01:56Several troopers approached the truck from behind, while another took up position at the rest stop's highway entrance ramp.
02:04I do not have a good angle here.
02:06We need to move.
02:08We need the white males into the driver's seat.
02:11They're starting the vehicle.
02:13Troopers quickly moved in as the driver put the truck in gear.
02:18Police, stop!
02:20Stop!
02:21They're taking off.
02:22They're taking off.
02:23The truck pulled out of the rest stop and, shockingly, headed right for the trooper's vehicle,
02:27turning away at the last possible second.
02:30They're taking off out of the rest area.
02:32Southbound.
02:35All right, we got high.
02:36Speed's 100, 176, southbound.
02:40They're just driving all over the road.
02:43Now, as they drive recklessly and brandish a weapon,
02:47he's got a gun out the window.
02:50This trooper looks to make a move.
02:54Who's giving me permission to take him out?
02:571844, guys.
02:59At what speeds?
03:01At this point, it does not matter.
03:03As long as you've got a unit close to you for backup, take them out.
03:06Okay.
03:07But as he moves in to attempt a pit maneuver, the driver fires at the trooper, and he temporarily
03:21loses control of his cruiser.
03:231016.
03:24I'm wondering, I crashed out.
03:25I'm catching up.
03:26725, check up.
03:27You okay?
03:28Oh, yeah.
03:29Just, you know, a little spin out.
03:30I'm coming.
03:31The trooper quickly rejoins the chase and, once again, takes the lead.
03:361844, unless they got permission to take him out.
03:37Take him out.
03:38The higher speed, the better.
03:39We need to end this.
03:40I know he's shooting at me, though.
03:41He's shooting at me.
03:42He shot at me again.
03:43The fugitives managed to exit the highway and then, suddenly, come to a complete stop.
03:49We're stopped.
03:50That's fire.
03:51Troopers fire at the suspects, who take off again, back toward the highway.
04:18We're back on the on-ramp.
04:21But the suspects never get back on the road.
04:25Instead, continuing to drive on the grassy shoulder.
04:28Crashing out.
04:29He's still in the ditch.
04:31Still in the ditch.
04:33Might get stuck here.
04:35Eventually, the terrain becomes too much for the stolen truck to navigate.
04:41Crashing out.
04:44Watch out.
04:46As the disabled vehicle comes to a stop, law enforcement officers surround the crash site.
04:55Show me your hands right now!
04:56Because the suspects are armed, troopers hold their positions.
05:01And before long, day turns into night.
05:04Eventually, the passenger begins to comply with the officers' commands.
05:10We need to see both your hands.
05:11Both your hands.
05:12Hands up!
05:13Hands up!
05:14Hands up!
05:15Cuff them!
05:16Cuff them!
05:17Cuff them!
05:18Cuff them!
05:19Cuff them!
05:20Cuff them!
05:21Cuff them!
05:22Cuff them!
05:25Cuff them!
05:51Ronnie Lee Oliver, the passenger. They were both extradited back to Michigan and charged with
05:56homicide, armed robbery, carjacking, and assault with intent to murder. Jones pled guilty to all
06:03charges and was sentenced to 40 to 82 years in prison. His earliest possible release is in 2065
06:11when he'll be 71 years old. Oliver, who previously served 20 years in prison for robbery,
06:18pled not guilty, and his case is pending.
06:26Next, we're in Sebastian County, Arkansas, where state troopers are in pursuit of a suspect wanted
06:32for violating his probation who just fled from deputies and is now driving recklessly through
06:38local streets. Earlier, 47-year-old David Bruce, who was known by officers to have an active felony
06:45warrant for violating his probation conditions in a drug possession case, was spotted by
06:50a task force agent from the prosecutor's office and then pulled over by Sebastian County Corporal
06:56Joseph Mahan. Another deputy arrived to assist.
07:00During the stop, a state trooper, Corporal Jonathan Bass, arrived as additional backup.
07:15But just as Corporal Bass rolled forward to get a closer look, the suspect took off and the
07:32corporal took lead position for the pursuit. Seconds later, Corporal Matthew Price and his
07:39canine partner, Rick, see the fugitive's car heading directly toward them and join the pursuit.
07:44Now, I'm going to jump in here behind you.
07:46Now, Corporal Price and a third trooper join Corporal Bass and two other deputies in the chase
07:51as the suspect begins to drive erratically.
07:55I'm still northbound, coming up to 71. Stand by, let's know which way we're going.
07:59As the driver approaches a busy intersection, he blows through a red light and makes a left
08:07turn. Corporal Bass cuts through two cars at the light to keep pace with the fugitive,
08:14who then begins driving on the opposite side of the road.
08:21As the chase continues, the suspect suddenly makes this unusual move.
08:27The suspect enters an apartment complex and drives into a vacant dirt lot in the back of
08:35the property. The troopers follow it.
08:41Corporal Price circles around these storage units in an attempt to cut the fugitive off,
08:47while Corporal Bass moves in to try a pit maneuver.
08:57The suspect seems to be blocked in, but he isn't giving up.
09:06Get out of the car! What the f***? Get out of the car!
09:10Get out of the car or you're going to get dogbid.
09:12What have I done? Get out of the car!
09:16When he refuses to exit the vehicle, Corporal Price and canine Rick move in.
09:22As Corporal Price gets his hand on the window, the suspect tries to raise it.
09:32So then, the trooper smashes the window with his bare hand, then lifts canine Rick into the vehicle,
09:40while Trooper Bass uses his baton to smash the passenger window.
09:44Corporal Price runs around to the other side of the vehicle to retrieve his dog.
10:05Get out of the car!
10:07After being bitten by canine Rick, the suspect finally decides to surrender.
10:15Get out!
10:16Get out!
10:17Straight to the ground!
10:18Go straight to the ground!
10:18Get on the ground!
10:19Get out!
10:20Right where at?
10:21Where are you going to be at?
10:21The trooper uses a taser probe on the suspect, and he's taken into custody.
10:27I need to pay attention and listen next time.
10:30I was, buddy.
10:30No, you were not. Obviously, you weren't.
10:32You had the option to pull over, so shut your mouth.
10:35I understand that, but guess what? I'm done. I'm stopped now.
10:38You're right, you're stopped, because we had to ram you three different times.
10:41Man, you almost hit him.
10:45He was rolling the window up and rolling my fingers up the window.
10:50I rolled the window up to keep that damn dog out there, boy. That dog's a bitch.
10:54I didn't help you none, did you?
10:57Bruce, who was already on probation for possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia,
11:02theft of property and criminal mischief, was arrested and charged with battery, resisting arrest,
11:08and felony fleeing a vehicle with substantial danger of death.
11:12He later pled guilty to all three charges and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
11:18He'll be eligible for parole after serving 11 years, when he'll be 57 years old.
11:23No officers were injured during the incident, including K-9 Rick.
11:33Next, we're in Tampa, Florida, where state troopers are pursuing a DUI suspect
11:38who they say stole an ambulance and is now driving dangerously.
11:43You got to get in. Stop as soon as you can.
11:45Earlier, around 8.30 p.m., Florida Highway Patrol got a report that a Tampa Fire Department ambulance
11:53had been stolen from a local hospital.
11:56Within 10 minutes, two troopers spotted the vehicle as it drove toward them on this street.
12:02Both troopers made U-turns and attempted a traffic stop.
12:06The suspect speeds off and proceeds to blow through several stop signs.
12:3240 miles an hour, stop on, 30 minutes.
12:37Then makes a left turn onto a dusty road, creating tough pursuit conditions for the officers.
12:47And as he approaches this main road, he blows through another stop sign and nearly T-bones a local driver.
12:56You got to get in. Stop as soon as you can.
13:02The putative's driving becomes even more dangerous
13:05as he weaves in and out of the opposite lane, nearly slamming into this car.
13:16Suddenly, the driver makes a right turn and pulls over.
13:22Coming to a stop. Coming to a stop.
13:27Turn it off! Turn it off, f***ing !
13:30Get your f***ing hands up!
13:32Hands up! Hands up! Hands up!
13:38Coming to your other hand! Other hand!
13:41As the troopers try to get the suspect to raise both of his hands,
13:46they realize he's using one of them to drink a can of beer.
13:51Get a drink of it!
13:52Put your f***ing hands up!
13:53Put your f***ing hands up!
13:53Put your f***ing hands up!
13:54Put your f***ing face up!
13:55But when he doesn't comply, troopers make their move.
13:59Get the f*** out! Get out!
14:03As additional troopers and Tampa PD arrive to assist,
14:07this officer jumps in the cab to stop the ambulance from rolling backwards.
14:14Stop resisting!
14:15I'm not!
14:17While another confiscates the suspect's beverage.
14:20The driver was identified as 43-year-old Michael Esklin.
14:36Esklin had three prior DUIs and multiple driving with suspended license convictions on his record.
14:42He told officers that he was at the hospital after drinking for two days,
14:47and when the Tampa Fire Department wouldn't give him a ride home,
14:51he decided to take the ambulance and drive himself.
14:55He was charged with burglary of an emergency vehicle,
14:58fleeing, eluding, DUI, driving while license revoked,
15:02habitual offender, resisting an officer, and other charges.
15:06He pled guilty to all charges and was sentenced to five years in prison
15:11with 151 days credit for time served
15:14to be followed by 24 months community control and probation.
15:19Next, we're in Hobbs, New Mexico.
15:30Her police are in pursuit of a man who broke into an airplane,
15:34then stole a vehicle from the local airport.
15:38Earlier, around 9.45 p.m.,
15:41Hobbs PD received a call about a suspicious individual
15:44trespassing at the Lee County Regional Airport,
15:47which was closed.
15:49Security cameras captured this footage of the man
15:52using a baggage trailer to break into an airplane.
15:57The suspect left the aircraft empty-handed,
16:01but then used the baggage trailer to smash through a glass wall
16:05and into the terminal before taking off.
16:10Now, Sergeant Royal Hopper is first to spot the trailer on a local road.
16:15He went out in the airport and stole one of their luggage cards.
16:18The sergeant quickly flips a U-turn and attempts a traffic stop.
16:22The suspect acknowledges Sergeant Hopper with a wave but refuses to pull over.
16:28As the officers try to figure out their next move, the suspect keeps going and decides to document the chase
16:43by pulling out his phone by pulling out his phone and recording himself.
16:46As the slow-speed pursuit continues, Sergeant Hopper seems to become frustrated.
16:55I just didn't know if we had any other options just to follow him at 10 miles an hour.
16:59I know we can't pit him.
17:01I know we can't tase him.
17:02I almost want to just jump out and run beside him and grab his ass.
17:05Moments later, when the suspect goes to make a turn right in front of him,
17:12Sergeant Hopper decides to take his own advice.
17:26Sergeant Hopper charges at the suspect, who resists by kicking him.
17:31A struggle ensues, and Hopper grabs the suspect around the head.
17:38As Officer Olnick arrives for backup, Sergeant Hopper tosses the suspect to the ground.
17:52Additional officers arrive to assist, but the suspect continues resisting.
17:56And the situation becomes even more intense.
17:59He's trying to get my gun.
18:01Take him!
18:02Take him!
18:03Take him!
18:04Hit him!
18:05.
18:07Stop resisting!
18:08Stop resisting!
18:09Stop resisting!
18:10Give us your hands now!
18:11Give us your hands!
18:12Now!
18:13Give us your hands!
18:14Give us your hands!
18:15Now!
18:16Give us your hands!
18:17Give us your hands!
18:18Now!
18:19Eventually, they get the suspect in cuffs.
18:21He's detained right now.
18:23But he continues to act out.
18:25Hey!
18:26Uh-uh!
18:27Uh-uh!
18:28Uh-uh!
18:29You need to calm down.
18:30No!
18:31Ah!
18:32You're fine.
18:33You're fine.
18:34Nobody is hitting anything right now.
18:36It's done.
18:37Knock it off.
18:38You understand.
18:40Stay calm, bud.
18:41Stay calm.
18:42No, no, no, no, no.
18:43Uh-uh!
18:44Stay calm.
18:45During the struggle, Sergeant Hopper was accidentally hit by the taser.
18:49But he appears uninjured.
18:51Sergeant?
18:52Are you okay?
18:53Yeah, I'm good.
18:54I'm sorry, brother.
18:55It's all right, man.
18:56I do that for fun, so it's all good.
18:58Hey!
18:59What's your name?
19:00Sebastian Rios.
19:01We're gonna try and sit you up.
19:02Don't be crazy.
19:03Okay?
19:04I'm about to go to jail.
19:05Well, sounds awkward.
19:06I can go to jail.
19:07I don't care.
19:08Yeah, you have to go to jail.
19:09That kind of goes with that.
19:10The suspect, ID'd as 32-year-old Sebastian Rios Sierra, refused medical treatment,
19:17and was taken to jail.
19:19For his actions during the pursuit, Rios Sierra was charged with aggravated assault
19:24upon a peace officer, resisting invading or obstructing an officer, and other charges.
19:30But he accepted a deal pleading guilty to one count of aggravated assault upon a peace
19:36officer, and the other charges were dismissed.
19:39Rios Sierra was sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended, and put on supervised
19:44probation for 18 months.
19:46For breaking into the airport, he was charged with larceny, two counts of criminal damage
19:51to property, and burglary of a vehicle.
19:54He has yet to enter a plea, and that case is pending.
