03:23Can't understand me.
03:26Oh, can't understand you.
03:28Must be that fat beak of yours.
03:30Can't mouth the word's right.
03:32Oh yeah?
03:36Well, listen to this.
03:40For five decades, from Donald's screen debut in 1934 until Nash's death in February of 1985,
03:50Ducky Nash was the one and only voice of Donald Duck.
03:54The legacy that remains is one of Disney's richest.
03:57Over 150 cartoon shorts, as well as several full-length feature films.
04:02By the mid-40s, Hannah, Nash and the Donald Duck team had created an unparalleled string of Donald Duck cartoons.
04:12Cartoons that became instant classics in depicting Donald's endless misadventures.
04:23Two series of Disney cartoons remain vivid examples of fast-paced slapstick animation.
04:28The first starred Chip and Dale, a pair of mischievous chipmunks created by Hannah as the perfect foils for Donald.
04:35We were amazed at the appeal that they had.
04:38We knew we had an instant foil for the duck for a long time because there were so many locales that they could work in,
04:49either in a house or out in the woods gathering acorns or whatever.
04:53And so they were a real good series and our story men were especially ignited to be able to have these characters to work with.
05:11The second collection starred Donald in an everyday situation, an encounter with a pesky bee.
05:16And the predicament never failed to snowball into a laugh-filled escapade.
05:21By the late 40s, Donald and his nemesis had developed into a popular screen team,
05:25with audiences eagerly anticipating the final showdown in each new adventure.
05:31Another small character was Spike the Bee.
05:35And he was especially good because he had a special weapon of his own, which was his stinger.
05:41And he very seldom was trying to bother the duck.
05:45The duck always bothered him, but he would come right back at him.
05:49He had that stinger and he knew it.
05:51And so, anyway, I really enjoyed, I think, making Spike the Bee pictures as well as any of the other foil characters for the duck.
06:01Yeah.
06:04And the umpire calls him out at the plate.
06:08Donald's bee pictures were immensely popular.
06:11And the series even included an elderly duck and bee reminiscing about their past adventures together.
06:21You know, strange as it may seem, I used to be in business with that old duffer.
06:27As a prime example of the upbeat cartoon storylines of the 40s,
06:33Donald Duck's bee pictures are fondly remembered by just about everyone.
06:38Don't do it when you die. That's what it do for you.
06:44Except, perhaps, by Donald himself.
06:47Who's got the sweetest disposition?
07:05One guess, guess who?
07:08Who never, never starts an argument?
07:11Who never shows a bit of temperament?
07:15Who's never wrong but always right?
07:18Who'd never dream of starting a fight?
07:21Who gets stuck with all the bad luck?
07:24No one but Donald Duck.
07:26Almost more than you.
07:29We're always right.
07:32We'll make fun of that.
07:34Let's go, son!
07:36To the left...

50:12Look out with that thing.
50:28You know, strange as it may seem,
50:31I used to be in business with that old duffer.
50:35It all began many years ago.
50:39When I was young and full of the old beeswax,
50:42I was ever looking for better opportunities.
50:46Ah, here's one.
50:48I had a hidden talent.
51:04Opportunity was not.
51:06Well, what do you know?
51:15Well, uh-uh.
51:17Well, well, Chaco.
51:32You're a good boy.
51:34And so began a beautiful friendship.
51:39We agreed to stick together.
51:42That night, he took me to his modest little cottage
51:46and fed me, too.
51:52While I tried to repay his kindness in some little way,
51:55I had the feeling that Mr. Duck was planning big things for us.
52:04Aw.
52:06Ouch!
52:13And I was right.
52:14For the very next day, we were in business.

52:59I've made quite an impression.
53:11The boss had an idea that was to be the turning point in our lives.
53:17We started with a three-spooler.
53:35Hello? Hello? What? Hello?
53:37Soon we were in full production.
53:39Hello? What's that?
53:40Well, by the time I finished the night and the dragon, I was really dragon.
53:53I told the boss I needed a vacation. In the country, maybe.
54:02That man was a genius. He brought the country to me.
54:05That man was a wee boy.

54:52So, that's a lot, or what?
55:22The thing that brought us together was about to come between us.
55:38Well, sir, that was the end of our partnership, and the little missus and I have been happy
55:44all these years.
55:46Hey, Spike, I've been g-g-g-all you before that.
