Several actors who played the young Golden Ticket winners in the Wilder-led 1971 film have shared their thoughts on the 'Little Women' actor taking over the iconic role for a Warner Bros. reimagining.
Transcript
00:00The original Willy Wonka stars are sharing their thoughts on Timothee Chalamet taking over the iconic role from Gene Wilder for the Warner Bros. reimagining.
00:09Paris Themmon, the actor who played Mike TV in the 1971 classic, says Chalamet is a quote,
00:14talented actor, but that the 25-year-old star doesn't have to be as good as Wilder for Warner Bros. planned prequel.
00:21Themmon appeared alongside Willy Wonka co-stars Peter Ostrom, Julia Dawn Cole, and Michael Bolner,
00:25who played Charlie Bucket, Veruca Salt, and Augustus Gloop, respectively, as part of a virtual reunion celebrating the film's 50th anniversary.
00:33Themmon shared that while Chalamet might not be able to bring the same spirit to the role as Wilder, who passed away in 2016,
00:39he's still talented and already embodies much of the same look.
00:43Speaking of the Dune star, he said,
00:45I don't know if he has the wild eyes that Gene has, but he's kind of got the hair, and a general look that's kind of similar.
00:52While some fans of the original may not be pleased with a prequel, the cast says the latest take on the classic tale is just a part of the story's legacy.
01:00Ostrom, whose lone film role was playing Charlie, noted,
01:03You can't kill Wonka. It just gets played over and over again, whether the original or the remake with Johnny Depp.
01:08During the interview, the cast also praised Wilder, with Cole saying he was nothing like his iconic character.
01:14I think people kind of want us to tell you that he was like Willy Wonka off-set, but he wasn't, adding,
01:19He was such a lovely, kind man. Very unassuming.
