00:00The Kuala Lumpur High Court has questioned what happened to the police's investigations into the
00:06disappearance of activist Amri Chehmat in the last six years. In his full judgment on a suit
00:14filed by Amri's wife, Norhayati Arifin, Justice Su Tiang Ju said no answers were ever provided by
00:21the police and government in the course of the trial. The court noted that the government led
00:27by Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 2019 had sanctioned a task force to look into the Suhakam findings on Amri
00:34and another missing person, Pastor Raymond Koh. In his written judgment released last week,
00:40Su said it would be opportune to observe that the investigating officer, Koryi Xun,
00:45against whom the task force had recommended disciplinary action for incompetence,
00:50was promoted to a senior rank assistant superintendent in 2021.
00:55Kuala Lumpur, who testified in the suit, claimed he was no longer in charge of Amri's case after
01:02being transferred from Perlis in 2019, yet also said he never formally handed over the investigation
01:09papers to another officer. The task force concluded that the police had been incompetent in handling
01:16Amri's case and that broke police officers were involved in Koh and Amri's disappearances.
01:22It also named 10 persons of interest. Last month, a judgment of RM5 million was entered against the
01:31government and police in Norhayati's lawsuit. Panyujo, FMT
