00:00All police personnel involved in the fatal Durian Tunggal shooting in Malacca last November
00:05will be called to testify at an inquest. Bukit Aman CID Director M Kumar said police will apply
00:13within the next two days to obtain dates for the inquest. Kumar described the inquest as
00:18a comprehensive court process similar to the proceedings into the death of teenager Zahra
00:24Kareena Mahathir in Sabah. The Attorney General's chambers ordered the inquest on July 20th
00:30to determine the cause and circumstances of the deaths including whether criminal elements were
00:35involved. M Pushpanathan, T Poovaneswaran and G Logeswaran were shot dead on November 24th after
00:43one of them allegedly attacked a police officer with a parang. The case was initially investigated
00:49for attempted murder but the AGC later directed police to reclassify it as murder. The investigation
00:55papers were resubmitted to the AGC four times with police receiving further instructions on each
01:01occasion. Lawyers for the families criticized the need for an inquest citing alleged audio evidence
01:07that they claimed showed the victims were captured alive before being executed. They also pointed to
01:14post-mortem reports which they said showed evidence of execution-styled killings based on the trajectory of
01:20the bullets. Andrea Edmonds, FMT
