00:00Political commentator Shaza Shukri says she was only called as a witness and not as a
00:06subject of investigation, in a probe by police into an alleged plot to topple the government.
00:12The faculty member from International Islamic University Malaysia's Political Science Department
00:17said in a post on X that the nerve-wracking experience at Bukit Aman last Tuesday was
00:23more an annoyance than anything else.
00:25She added that she was called to clarify a quote from one and a half years ago and hoped
00:30that her being summoned would not be used to push other agendas.
00:34Shaza also noted that the Political Science Students Association had incorrectly said Bukit
00:40Aman summoned her and several others under suspicion of activity detrimental to parliamentary democracy.
00:47FMT was informed that the summons relates to a statement by Shaza as coded in a news report
00:53published in December 2024.
00:55Meanwhile, the Students Association warned that intimidating academics over their opinions
01:00could undermine Malaysia's intellectual discourse and discourage scholars from discussing issues
01:05issues of public interest.
