Transcript
00:00Listen, you are my Emmy's bestie this weekend.
00:03We've spent the last 24 hours together.
00:05We had a great time.
00:06I mean, there were revolving beds involved.
00:08We won't say any more.
00:10Yeah, it was quite the time.
00:12We won't spill all the tea.
00:14Now we're being very demure.
00:15We're at a tea party.
00:16How does it feel to be here with BAFTA?
00:18This is insane.
00:19This is amazing.
00:20I'm so happy to be invited, and especially as a nominee this year,
00:23that the BAFTA Tea Party is back,
00:25and I get to be here in the presence of so many legends that I just admire so fully.
00:31Like, dreams really do come true.
00:33Yeah.
00:34It's kind of insane.
00:34I know, first-time Emmy nominee.
00:37Have you had time to process it?
00:38Has it just been go, go, go this whole weekend?
00:40It's been so go, go, go,
00:42but I was actually having a conversation with Cheryl Lee Ralph earlier,
00:46who is such, I mean, like, just heart of hearts, soul of souls.
00:50Like, she is so incredible, and she was like, we show up.
00:53Like, that is what we do.
00:54We show up, and sometimes that's what keeps the opportunities going,
00:58by being able to show up, show up for ourselves, show up for our work,
01:01and make our presence known.
01:03And I just, I really felt that.
01:05And so I'm honoring the space that I get to occupy,
01:08and I was grateful for her words.
01:10I know last night when we were talking,
01:12I know we mentioned that you had mentioned that Viola Davis was someone
01:15that you had really built a strong friendship with through doing
01:19How to Get Away with Murder,
01:20and someone that you might possibly run into at one of these events this weekend.
01:23What does her friendship mean to you
01:25and having her as you navigate through this industry?
01:27You know, the thing that I love about Viola is that she's so honest and raw and real,
01:31and she wants to be able to uplift you,
01:35and she also wants to be able to give you the confidence to be who you are.
01:40Like, I think we get into industries like this,
01:42and we think we have to, like, change or manipulate ourselves
01:44into being something else in order to be palpable for other people.
01:47And she's like, have integrity, be vulnerable, be genuine.
01:53And, like, and that is enough.
01:54Like, you are enough.
01:56So I know we are at a tea party,
01:58so I want you to spill the tea for me a little bit.
02:00Spill the tea.
02:01Nothing about last night.
02:04Spill the tea on the best thing you've seen on TV this year.
02:07Ooh, the best thing I've seen on TV this year.
02:10That is so hard.
02:11That is really, really hard.
02:13I'm going to say, okay, four-way tie.
02:16I'm cheating.
02:17Four-way tie, Hax, Shogun, Abbott Elementary, and The Bear.
02:21Okay, okay.
02:21Wait, those are good ones.
02:22Those are good ones.
02:23Those are great.
02:24They're great.
02:24This is, like, such great work.
02:27Like, yeah.
02:28Who is the last person from Lessons in Chemistry that you texted,
02:33and what did you say?
02:34The last person from Lessons in Chemistry that I texted was probably Brie,
02:38and just being, like, just thanking her again for, like, believing in me
02:42because, like, she was one of the voices in the room saying,
02:44it needs to be me in this role.
02:46So, yeah, I really feel like I owe it all to her.
02:50What is one show that you would love to guest star on?
02:53Maybe one of the four-way ties?
02:54Yeah, I mean, all four of them.
02:56Probably highest on my list would be Abbott Elementary.
03:00Yes.
03:00That's a good one.
03:01Yeah, a lot of people said that one.
03:02Because I love it so much.
03:04Yeah.
03:04Finally, what was your first job in Hollywood?
03:08Oh, my first job in Hollywood.
03:11Actually, little known fact, I used to work as a PA, a production assistant,
03:16and one of my first jobs, I believe I was a PA either for a BET Awards or a Comic View.
03:22Yeah.
03:23Way back.
03:25What was that experience like?
03:27It was intense, but I wore a fanny pack and carried a notepad,
03:30so I was made for it.
03:31I was built for it.
03:33Production can be intense.
03:34It was intense, but I was ready.
03:36I was, yeah, I did my job very well.
03:39And it built your work ethic that you have today, right?
03:41It really, it makes you appreciate every part of this,
03:44every single person that takes part in making all of this.
03:47It's like, it reminds you that we are all a team,
03:49like, and we need to treat each other like that.
03:52Yeah.
03:52Thank you again.
03:53Have fun in there.
03:54Grab some tea.
03:55Relax.
03:56Right?
03:56Oh my gosh.
03:58I did the whole thing.
03:59Oh, it's so happy to see you.
04:00It was so good seeing you again.
04:01Good luck this weekend.
04:03Oh, have so much fun.
04:04Bye.
04:04Because there were so many moving pods.
04:11Bye.

04:24Bye.
04:26Bye.
04:27Bye.
04:28Bye.
04:28Bye.
04:28Bye.
04:30Bye.
