'Baby Reindeer' star Nava Mau chats with THR at the BAFTA Tea Party and shares her emotions being nominated for an Emmy. Plus, she reveals the meaningful interaction she had with a trans fan in West Hollywood.

00:00What does this nomination mean to you?

00:02I mean, I just feel like this whole ride that we've been on since the show came out

00:07has been an overwhelming amount of support and love and connection with so many people around the world.

00:15And I think that this moment is now a moment of celebration with members of the Academy

00:20and fellow actors and writers, directors.

00:23So I feel very honored and very grateful to be a part of events like this and this whole moment.

00:34And I know, of course, your nomination also was very moving to a lot of people as well

00:38and resonated with many people.

00:40Was there any maybe fan encounter or any interaction that you've had since filming the show

00:46that really touched you or stood out to you?

00:48Yeah, well, I went out to West Hollywood for the first time since the show came out and everything about a month ago.

01:01And, you know, it was really beautiful that people who recognized me wanted to share their connection to the series.

01:09But there was one person in particular, we were walking on a sidewalk and, you know, she was a trans Latina woman

01:17and she wanted to share how much it meant to her to see Terry represented on screen.

01:24And I think I was concerned potentially, you know, I tend to be very caring and careful about representations of violence on screen.

01:35And so there was, there's, you know, I wanted to bring that kind of care into the performance of Tarana

01:41and she experiences violence.

01:43And so what I heard from this person who stopped me on the sidewalk is that it actually felt really affirming for her

01:51to witness Terry experience the trauma that she did and come out on the other side the way that she did.

01:58So that meant a lot to me.

02:00Oh, that's very beautiful.

02:02I know when I asked a lot of people on this carpet what their, the favorite thing that they saw on TV this year,

02:07a lot of people said baby reindeer.

02:08So I wanted to ask you, what was the best thing that you saw on TV this year?

02:11Oh my God.

02:14That is so stressful.

02:17The best thing I saw on TV.

02:20Um, I mean, is jury duty still this year or is that last year?

02:25We can say in recent years.

02:26So yeah, I'll take it.

02:27Jury duty was so brilliant.

02:29Like literally unbelievable.

02:31I, I think I watched maybe all of it in one, one night with my best friend.

02:35Um, yeah, just brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

02:38And like, it was about the experience that that group of people shared and, and, and then it was still so hilarious.

02:44So yeah.
