At The Hollywood Reporter‘s annual Women in Entertainment breakfast gala, Lily Gladstone tells THR on the red carpet about what advice shed give young women in the Entertainment Industry, going into the award season with ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ and more.
00:00How does it feel to be here this morning as one of our scholarship presenters?
00:03I mean, I went to school on scholarships.
00:06I know what it feels like to work really hard for it.
00:09And, yeah, it's just fun to be here to celebrate some other kids.
00:13What advice would you give to these young women who are looking to pursue careers in entertainment?
00:18Be yourself.
00:20I mean, there's a space for you here.
00:23It's needed.
00:23I think stepping outside of a community that raised you that is not necessarily the one that is always having a light shone on it or not being elevated.
00:33We elevate each other, and you're very needed.
00:38Like, you being in the rooms that you're in and being exactly who you are is what we all need.
00:42I love that.
00:43That's such great advice.
00:44For you, you've had a huge year with Killers of the Flower Moon.
00:47Golden Globe nominations are next week.
00:49As we move into the height of awards season, how are you feeling?
00:55Is there pressure?
00:56Is it nerve-wracking, or is it just exciting?
00:58You know, it's all of it.
01:03Pressure can feel like a really good hug, too.
01:06You've been going to so many events, you know, to promote the film ahead of these award nominations.
01:11Has Leo or Marty given you any advice on kind of dealing with the whole awards season whirlwind?
01:16Not particularly, but they do just provide a really good support being there and having fun.
01:25And I think maybe the advice is in the action.
01:29They just enjoy themselves.
01:31They don't take it more seriously than is necessary, which has been nice.
01:35Like, they just set the tone for it.
01:37So, yeah, it's honestly felt way more chill than I thought it would.
01:41That's good.
01:42We're here this morning celebrating women in entertainment.
01:44Can you name a female-led TV show or movie that you love?
01:50Female-led TV show or movie that I love?
01:52You know, the only one that comes to mind, and it's just because it's one of my dad's favorite movies.
01:59He's seen it, like, probably eight, nine times as Bad Moms.
02:03Like, I mean, I think my dad was a stay-at-home dad when I was early childhood.
02:08My mom worked.
02:09She was the one that, like, kept us going, and my dad is the one who stayed at home and did all of the parenting in my early childhood.
02:15So, honestly, because society doesn't necessarily elevate the stay-at-home dad, but that film, like, really cracks into the humor of what that is,
02:26to have everything kind of fall on you to be with the kids all the time.
02:30I think it took a really strong female-led comedy, which is, like, his favorite genre, to make him feel seen.
02:37So, I just have a soft spot in my heart for that one.
